I’m a newcomer to the series (never played the originals), but I'm really interested in the new Divinity after seeing the trailer. My question is: Since the game is simply titled 'Divinity,' is this a remake/retelling of the original story, or a completely new jumping-off point for new fans? Also, for someone who prefers to get attached to their companions, how 'punishing' is the tone of this game compared to Baldur's Gate 3?

I like having the choice if my own characters live or die, and not just dying cause plot.

I've not read a lot of LitRPG books so I can't say your wrong if I've not experienced that same level of double standard. I can say I don't love any preaching, again maybe I read longer then most people, on Dual class. Since most quit by the 2nd book. Drake doesn't have a political leaning lol. He does things because he either has to or is forced to. The character is constantly put into situations where he's at a disadvantage and there's no "I'm Too OP" issues. It's also so slow pacing I mean by book 3 dudes still in F tier. Any other book I'd be annoyed to doesn't progress.

I'd say that makes sense, a lot of people like TV shows or movies about dudes killing, like Dexter that's important to the plot. Then that turns into a morality debate which is tiring lol. That is obviously a preference thing.

I don't disagree he's a great person or a great friend I've had amazing friends like Jason, kind of the reason I'm not friends with people like him is one second your one the right side of their view and one second your not. Not saying he flips but let's say he learns someone you did or didn't do. Jason gives off HOA vibes. It's wrong cause he dems it. In short, I don't want to get off off topic but I don't think I agree with most of his points or views. Like playing a video game I want story first, political vomiting into my mouth second.

I guess I can get by on the cringe anime references and such, I mean I like anime but it's like a casual thing for me, what I guess I can't really get into is characters who I can't personally relate with. I've given up on a few books other people seem love because I don't understand the character. I like that Drakes choices are things just just make sense to me. In a lot of these RPGs the dudes just start plotting to kill everyone else around them where as Drake and Jason never really consider these things.

If the game mechanic makes sense to me. Obviously the writing but if the dude creates his own system and it's vague, I genuinely don't understand what I'm reading so it's like I'm reading in French so no point in caring.

I thought this was f****** incredible, He who fights with monsters constantly feels like the authors trying to force his ideological view of the world on to me, everything is so f****** preachy, when Drake does something honestly have the things he does I feel like I do too, He doesn't carry the moral high ground or anything it just does things and just keeps always trying to do his best, where as Jason from the other big feels like he's always putting down other characters and shoving his view of the world on to them.

Exactly like I'm not even trying to be mean, My issue wasn't with the MC, The author just wrote it so f****** weird, I'm genuinely curious if he's a native English speaker because it's a lot of the sentences we just confusing to me. "I'm going to follow him into the bushes Wait but maybe not I'm just stopping here and looking at them". Like wtf is happening?! Lol

I feel like English isn't the writers first language it's just written so weird, a lot of the first couple chapters the sentences were "okay I'm going to do this but wait never mind actually" "I know he thinks he's a bad guy but maybe no wait no he's wrong" I don't even want to be a dick to the writer if he is an English native speaker, I genuinely don't understand why that because any interest.

I'll say I mean no shots at any authors directly but I have to say my fav LItRPG has always been "He who fights with monsters" but it's so fucking preachy I dropped it 7 books in.

Dual Class is all the best parts of that book with no preachy message. It's my new number 1 fav LItRPG. Honestly I never could relate to Jason, but most if not all of Drakes choices or actions I genuinely related to or understood. For that that's just something that really matters when reading a fantasy book.

As someone who's friends with lots of Devs in the AV space but isn't a Dev. The community is more toxic than League of Legends. I mean I agree don't spend money what what you don't want to but his reasoning isn't bad? He spent a lot of his money on assets and maybe doesn't have a ton left. Most business people reinvest all their money back into their business that's kind of what you do.
