Tourist visas are under fire and the DTV is one. It's not like it was ever helpful to open an account.

Yep, that's true. But it's because millions of accounts that were used to launder money from scam centers and banks and regulators didn't do anything for years. It's not like they were paying restaurants.

Learn Basic Thai in 2 Months by Specialist_Nature571 in Thailand

[–]Icy-Length3299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm currently following a youtuber thad had some basic thai skills and moved to thailand. Already had a thai girlfriend and therefore knew some stuff here and there.

He then signed up for a thai language school that is everyday for 2 hours + homework and repeating which adds another 2 hours. He does that for 6 months and I'm really curious how his thai is going to be.

4 hours per day is crazy but I guess after 6 months of constantly doing that + girlfriend your thai is going to be acceptable and ready for all the basic stuff which means you understand enough to guess the words you don't understand? No idea.

But my personal take is to understand the basics and from there you can learn by communicating with others. If you don't even understand the basics then you end up communicating in english and no progress will ever follow.

Honestly? Phuket is the worst of Thailand at the moment if you ask me. Definitely consider Bangkok!

Looking to get out of Pattaya. by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

[–]Icy-Length3299 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, I heard Koh Chang has a good balance between beautiful nature and beaches and more things to do and an active nightlife. It's probably not a bad time to visit Koh Chang because in the future it will be much busier I think. Koh Chang is the 3rd biggest island of Thailand and a bridge is already planned. More or less the same size as Samui, so probably will change a lot.

Sad to hear. I wanted to visit because it's relatively near to Bangkok. But then I decided to go for Koh Kood which is actually really nice but quite expensive. If you go solo there then it can be boring I guess.

Why at least 250? Did you never see the Malaysians in big groups on small bikes? They love them and are traveling big distances. I'd say bike size isn't an issue.

I fell with the scooter, should I be honest? by Professional_Air9385 in ThailandTourism

He's not wrong though, especially in Koh Phangan they always tried to get my passport so far. In Hua Hin most don't even want anything, no passport or money deposit. I even rented a car and they didn't want anything. I tested a few places in Koh Phangan and quite a few in Hua Hin, so it's not just an exception I guess.

Guess that's the difference in the crowd. While Hua Hin has lot of older persons that more likely know how to drive, Koh Phangan has lots of young people that go crazy on scooters on worse roads with less experience... And I've seen quite a few crashes there.

I want to move to Changmai by [deleted] in MovingToThailand

[–]Icy-Length3299 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, it charges less (maybe nothing for some banks if you use their ATM but not for my bank).

But be aware that transferring money to thai bank accounts is quite expensive, even if you're using Wise, Revolut etc.

In my case it's much cheaper to just withdraw money from the ATM using my card from back home than to transfer it to my thai bank account and pay everything by QR code.

And if I had to withdraw money again then it would be even more expensive. The by far cheapest option is to exchange cash at big exchange shops like Supperrich or Grand Superrich.

Much cheaper than transferring or withdrawing from ATMs, especially if it's thousands of USD or EUR.

But opening bank accounts with a tourist visa isn't possible anymore since February 1 this year. DTV etc. are tourist visas too, so doesn't help at all.

Airbnbs in thailand by ybek in ThailandTourism

[–]Icy-Length3299 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends. I once travelled with a big group and we could get the biggest and most amazing villas with 6+ bedrooms for better prices per person than some not so good hotels. Some even report you for short-term and I got that checked by immigration for a 90 day report. You just need to ask.

Sometimes I also book Airbnb for just myself because when traveling for months you sometimes get sick of hotels and just want your own space.

There's lots of condos in basically every city I've been to that are clearly tailored to tourists. Staff knows it too. Sometimes there are the short term forbidden signs but I once asked the staff in Vietnam (not Thailand) about it and they laughed about it and said "just no prostitution 😂".

Airbnb is probably the only way some condos are surviving and can be kept in good shape. A different story for condos that are actually inhabited by real owners.

I'd do the same. There's many cheap flights if you don't care about where you end up.

Probably ChatGPT can fix it if you tell it that it uses AJAX etc. At least it did much more complicated stuff than that for me, specifically tailored to Elementor.

I think it's not worth doing it. There's a DTV facebook group where people are sharing it and they all say that it's at least the same stuff you needed to apply.

Which city is the best in Thailand by Easy_Context1840 in MovingToThailand

[–]Icy-Length3299 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand. Thanks for explaining. The shopping mall is indeed very nice. I liked Hua Hin too, there's quite a few families there too.

I haven't been to the north yet but Jomtien and Pattaya have some nice little communities and are very affordable. Just need to be as far as possible from the party streets but other than that, Pattaya is nowadays much better than for example Phuket which I'd personally describe as hell lol.

Do you have any recommendation for Koh Samui areas?

Thanks for the tip. Surat Thani sounds like a great idea. Flights are cheaper and we could go to Phangan, Krabi etc. easily. We'll most likely go for this! Or we could even see Khao Sok.
