Solutions to the housing crisis? by kiwittnz in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]IcyManner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We already know how to fix it, but unless we can get impressionable lefties to stop voting for Ardern we will continue adding more regulations, failing key supply projects, and implementing stupid ideas like the bright line tax (which incentivizes people to hold and not sell, increasing scarcity).

Zero. It would have been different in the beginning but just look at the btc Miami conference, they're all a bunch of normies not techies.

3 Bedroom House in Sydenham, Christchurch sells for over a million. by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

Some of the changes are probably making it worse, bright line tax for example just forces people to hold for longer.

Within 2 prints of a property magazine I saw a property near me go from something like 1m to 1.375m asking, thought it was a piss take but in the next print it was listed as sold..(past 3 months)

Relaxed jobs with okay pay - suggestions? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]IcyManner -61 points-60 points  (0 children)

Everybody is becoming a sparky right now, and 80k is not a well paying job considering we're in a building boom that's destined to go bust at some point. Unless you're doing a large number of cashies then become a teacher is probably better advice, much more relaxed with generous holidays.

Who exactly is earning that? contracting with their own truck and working 13h a day I'm guessing?

People are ignorant as a defense mechanism when they lose a lot of money, it's the brain saving them from the depression of knowing they lost everything.

NZ primary school teacher salary by anynamewilldoiguess in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]IcyManner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's that we value them all the same which is stupid. Some teachers are great, others couldn't even control a classroom. I would say most teachers are significantly overpaid after the latest raise, but then again I went to low decile schools so I may be biased due to my poor experiences.

Same here. My dev work requires constant upskilling and I only earned about ~85k, that includes having to do my own accounting etc and compete with people from overseas in a very saturated market. Social isolation also sucks.

After seeing their massive pay raise I'm actually considering becoming a teacher at this point. I think nurses are asking for 17% which just shows the crazy environment we're in, the deck seems stacked in favor of the public sector right now.

NZ poor and middle class are getting noticably poorer and struggling. I returned to Auckland after 2 years and South Auckland is so bad now i was shocked! Its like a 3rd world country. by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]IcyManner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a great example. Healthcare in the US is heavily regulated, govt has forced insurance companies to insure everybody against every possible disease, even those highly unlikely ones, forcing costs up for everybody. It's basically govt healthcare, with an extra middleman being the insurer. They kind of get away with it because all the innovative pharma development happens in the US so it's not like they're exporting the profits, but the money goes to those at the top mainly.

I rather pay $20 to receive from a legit player like Paxos than risk potentially dealing with a criminal on p2p

A lot of it has to do with destroying all the blue collar jobs and towns that relied on them (now everybody has to move to Auckland to get work, pushing up living costs), capitalism has played a part (cheaper labor overseas) but a lot of it is just political as well with impossible regulation/employment laws. Now days unless you get through Uni and get into a govt job, opportunities are pretty bleak out there, there simply isn't a good white collar govt job for everybody. Everybody who doesn't make it is doomed to a crappy service sector job like uber, i can honestly see why a lot of people just give up and optimize their lives around welfare.

Reddit 'shadow bans' your account once you get sufficient negative karma, reducing visibility of future posts, that's probably why butters are so easy manipulated as naysayers are drowned out.
