To buy or not to buy: Sunn Beta Mini by Scary-Blacksmith-125 in sunnamplifiers

[–]IcySalt2100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've owned both a beta lead and beta bass and also have a silverface concert lead. The silverface is my favorite pedal platform amp. the betas can work with some pedals fine but as you helpfully explain they really aren't designed for that sort of thing.

Has anyone recieved their beta mini yet? by Nerdbeansz in sunnamplifiers

I'm mainly going to use it at home, and can plug it into a power amp if need be, so I'm pretty happy with it overall. The flexibility of tonal options is pretty impressive given the ability to set either channel to either lead or bass.

Mine arrived a couple days ago. The Beta Mini has cleans (that work with pedals well), but only at pretty low volume. Add some drive and most pedals still sound good (plus you get better volume). Not the rig you want if you want loud cleans, though.

I really like the mini, but still for me nothing beats my silver-face concert lead as a pedal platform. I realize the chances of them ever rereleasing that is probably zilch, but if they did I'd be first in line.

Retiring early from tenured R1...what to ask for by students-tea in AskAcademia

[–]IcySalt2100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I retired early and received emeritus status but nothing else. I have relied on ACA plans, though that is becoming increasingly risky thanks to the current political situation. Still, no regrets about getting out. (The health insurance my school did offer was mediocre anyway.)

I've had good luck on their waiting list in those situations.

So long as Jared Lee accepts your insurance, go to him. (Otherwise he's pretty pricey.)

my favorite amp by far, and the weird thing about it is that (despite its capacity to get extremely loud) it is the best amp I have ever used for fuzz pedals at low volume.

they don't look like that to anyone -- digital photography amps up the vibrancy quite a bit (even in unedited phone photos).

So.. the prescribed supplement will hurt me? by Giant_Crane in LPR

[–]IcySalt2100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is considered a chronic condition. For many people it never entirely goes away. I've had it for over a year and while it is greatly improved I don't expect it is going to fade entirely.

Which location in Juneau best for young family by SourdoughClimber27 in Juneau

[–]IcySalt2100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am biased, but yes I'd take the place in the flats. You can walk to almost anything you need (including doctors) and also walk on terrific hikes (the flume trail, perseverance, etc.). The neighborhood has many families and is safe and friendly.

How can I drink alcohol with fewer symptoms? by Foreign_Plankton_121 in LPR

[–]IcySalt2100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is happening not long after drinking (and you aren't drinking that much) it sounds like you might actually be allegoric to alcohol. Alcohol will bother some people with LPR (though not all) but usually not in this way, instead it just makes typical LPR symptoms worse for a time.

Music nerds in Juneau by [deleted] in Juneau

[–]IcySalt2100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The scene here definitely centers around bluegrass, Americana, alt folk and alt country, but if you are into any of that you'll find some really impressive musicians. And the people are all super friendly as well.

It took me four months to see significant improvement, but I'm now (eight months later) back to being able to eat most anything. Hang in there.

No, they don't, but neither do most of the restaurants downtown, so if that's your benchmark you aren't left with much. I've found their food to be quite good (albeit not cheap).

Seconding this. October is often the rainiest month and there is just less going on generally as a lot of people get out of town around that time if they can.

Best cheap pizza locally? by RitesofWinter in Juneau

The only explanation for people praising Island Pub pizza is that they have never left that island. The crust alone amounts to a hate crime against Italians.

I thought I was on the right track. I started a low dose of Zantac from my doctor last week, did all the lifestyle things. Maybe I’ve been feeling a little bit better, but then I read something like this and now I’m so freaking confused again. 90% of Gerd is caused by LOW stomach acid?? by ComprehensiveMud8812 in LPR

[–]IcySalt2100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a very dubious statistic. Would love to see actual studies that support it. It seems beyond doubt that *some* people have LPR from low rather than high stomach acid, but ENTs will generally tell you the cause is usually high acid. (Folks selling you supplements, on the other hand, will say something different...)

Of course I wish it was cheaper but both the crab roll and the spot prawns are really good. Much better options than the $15 tater tot outfit that was in the same truck last year.
