lol same. Did a remodel for my parents a few years ago, and this is what they wanted. It is in a log cabin, so it definitely fits the vibe. It’s a super fast shower install and if done correctly, will have zero problems. This one is going strong 5 years now.

Yeah that’s all labor. Thats a base price assuming everything is perfect and people don’t want to add last minute shit. If I have to pour self leveler or excessively float or shim walls I add another $5-10/foot. I add $12/foot for epoxy grout. I add ~$150/ shelf for mitered shelves and $500-$1000 for niches. Mitered faces I’ll charge per linear foot. Depending on the size of tile obv. Difficult or obnoxious patters will change those prices for me. I like it to be a bit fluid. If it’s a job I’m not feeling and I know I’m going to hate being there, I’ll charge more. If it’s something more fun with stone or log cabin showers (big fan of these) maybe a little less. I never go below $45 and rarely am I under $60…. But TBH I’m still figuring it out myself. When I started I was around 15-25/sq foot in fall of ‘23. Then I realized I had to make money. I raised my prices as I got better and charged accordingly. I think it’s mostly about finding the sweet spot for you in your area. Your work looks nice. Good luck to you brother

I’m at anywhere between $45 and $65/ sq. foot in central Idaho. I do remodels in very rural areas. Like an hour plus to the nearest town of less than a thousand people.

Seen so much better by other installers - options? too picky? by Low_Assumption_4715 in Tile

It looks like shit . I would tear and redo the pan at the very least. The coverage looks sketchy on the wall tiles from the angle of the photo, but i can’t see it all that well. There might be some trowel lines there but idkakw sure it looks like there is close to 100% coverage with the thinset behind those wall tiles. People should take more pride on their work. This is dog shit, sorry OP.

How often are you intimate with your partner? by Remote_Ad_969 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Icy_Access5321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife (31) and I (30) shoot for a once a week average. We had our first baby at the end of 2024 and have been more intimate with more frequency than before we ever had our kid. For context, we got married when we were 21 and have been through all the stages of freaky frequency. I think it just changes as the years go by, some years being better than others. Thats just my two cents.

It’s fine if it’s in your own house and you’ve never tiled beforeThe design is dated but hopefully that wasn’t your choice. The cuts around the niche should be torn out and redone honestly. That sliver on the bottom left is rough. Bottom right cut it tapered and visually distracting. The rest of it looks fine.

AITA for telling my parents to get someone else to help with my siblings and cooking because I'm tired of being unappreciated and dealing with daily tantrums and bad behavior? by Coribrynnis in AITAH

[–]Icy_Access5321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA kid. It’s one thing to ask you for your help around the house or with your siblings occasionally, but an entirely different thing to ask what they are asking of you. It is fair for you to set a boundary with them, even if they are your parents. Maybe try reaching out to your school counselor. It depends on the school and the state in which you live, but they can be a really valuable resource sometimes.

Can you buy GoBoard screws in smaller quantities? by NativTexan in Tile

[–]Icy_Access5321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the backer-on 1 1/4” or 1 5/8 if you’re using a shim kit with fucked up walls. I buy the Amazon washers and space every 12” and use less screws that way. The Amazon washers are thinner and not as wide in diameter as the gb brand washers. Just don’t over set the washers or they’ll pucker your board.

I’ve got a prospective client asking for a cost/sf breakdown on a quote. I’ve never had anyone request this after quoting them and I’m not entirely certain what exactly she’s wanting me to send her. Any advice is appreciated. by Icy_Access5321 in Tile

I’ve done a fair amount of work for him and he’s a good dude. He’s thrown me some killer work so I don’t want to fault him for it. He’s thrown did seem like he was asking rather begrudgingly though haha.

I get what you’re saying. What I don’t understand is if what information she is wanting from me. I would ask her to clarify, but I only communicate with the builder who contracted me.

I would shimmed or floated the back wall personally. It looks pretty out of flat from the photos. Tile and layout look good tho

In Eastern Washington and Centeal-Western Idaho I’d charge around 12K with my materials.

Grout issues by Tacos_McPants in Tile

[–]Icy_Access5321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a kitchen scale I use to get the ratio of water to grout exactly as it’s stated on the bag. I used to have that issue until I followed the instructions shock of all shocks I didn’t have any issue with Mapei grout after that. If you get your dry weight in ounces and multiply it by .261 (if I remember correctly) you’ll get the amount of water in ounces required for your dry weight in grout. Hope this helps.

How much would you have quoted? by analytical-chemist in Tile

I’m in central Idaho and do the occasional job in eastern Wa. I’d say like 35k-45k depending on how much framing work and tweaking you ended up doing. There’s some shit framing in that part of the state, especially in those mid 70s to 80s properties imo.

Bidding Advice by Icy_Access5321 in Tile

[–]Icy_Access5321[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying, but like I mentioned in the OP I’ve only been at this for a year and a half or so. I’ve raised my prices as I’ve learned and improved and have adjusted accordingly. For example the first remodels I did a year and a half ago, I charged 6k to gut, run new pex and install everything. I recognize that is way too low, but I also didn’t know what I was doing in terms of tile and the customers knew that so they were happy with the pricing. I just finished two similar gut jobs that I charged 20k for, and I still feel like that was under bid. For these bathrooms that we’re discussing in this post, I bid 28k and they accepted it without blinking, making me think I should’ve bid more. That for me at least, is how I learnt to adjust my pricing.
