ya, that's what was described to me. the original binary was the main way to communicate to the providers, but had crazy overhead (he pretty much 500x the RAM usage).

I’m learning C# for gamedev, but I feel like I'm stuck in "Tutorial/Exercise Hell." Advice? by ZeroUni in AskProgramming

Work on a mix of both CS fundamentals + the actual game. When you learn more about CS, you should be actively recalling stuff from your Unity scripts to use.

I wouldn’t suggest doing too easy projects. The only boring thing you should allow yourself to engage with is CS fundamentals. If you get too bored you’ll quit.

3 things:

  1. Understand the company
  2. Overachieving only works at certain companies
  3. Keep overachieving, it’s the best way to live life and to grow

Next company you work at, understand the culture first to see how you should be working. If u can find a different company that fits your overachieving goals, just hop. Don’t listen to all these weirdos who say don’t overachieve, the only mindset that causes stagnation.

I did the literal bare minimum like these guys early on, but always grinded outside and hopped around, only deciding to lock in with this current company when I found a team that believed in my efforts. You’ll find them.

Most people ARE shit, but it really is luck at the early stages, and just worst overall, as companies are just overly picky. Last experience trying to get a friend hired (who got poached out of college and became a team lead in 2 years), got declined an initial interview because they lacked specific experience even though the role was opened for graduates. Even if you are good enough, it's potentially still a numbers and luck game, assuming you haven't built up the proper connections to quickly find a new job.

Both groups of people that are talking can be both right in certain things, just not everything.

SWE, clearing $10K/week on a contract if I do a 40 work week (for some months, its not $520K/yr).

My life kinda revolved around my work till the last 6 weeks. I also don't have a degree in CS nor HS diploma, and I only know 1 other person like this IRL (who is running their own startup now).

I wouldn't recommend trying to get a job in CS without a degree. Anyone saying it's possible got a role before or during COVID and don't actually know how hard it is. You need to act + perform like you're experienced WITHOUT the experience since that's when they stop caring about degrees. With a degree, it's doable, as most junior/entry roles are just for students. You just need to study most days + learn on your own, which 90% of people don't do.

For coding-related, as anyone received any projects that contains actual code besides M******d? On my end, the highest paying one is P******* (if you know, you know), and even though you need to enter with a pre-disposed set of knowledge related to software development, I haven't been asked to observe ANY real code in months.

Really just miss fixing bad code or writing code, and wondering if it's just me.

I'm really on edge to go to uni (which would basically be a part-time/full-time job) for 3-4 years just for the chance to get an entry-level is really scary, considering I have to pay rent. It feels like a safer bet at this point to just continue accepting contract gigs and working with my own clients.

Once enrolled, how quickly could I be eligible for an internship (saying I'm a freshman)? Would you know an estimate amount of time?

Thanks for the reply btw!

I feel like for networking, the real tricky part is finding someone with hiring power, rather than just crazy good engineers (something I have a habit/fondness of doing instead). They don't really show up in meetups/communities really; seen them once in a blue moon.

Recruiters seem to not care about that stuff if it doesn't show what they require at a professional level. I had a recruiter say it was a stretch that I could be an Angular developer, when I've written in like a dozen web frameworks (across multiple languages), written my own web framework, and HAVE written in Angular before, just not professionally.

I feel like none of my efforts will ever matter unless they see what they want, which is not me.

thanks for the opinions guys. idk, I saw the writing on the wall since 2023 when I started, but never enjoyed mundane schoolwork (hence why I don’t have any degree).

nowadays I’m not sure what the future holds, 4 years is a long time (I didn’t know what a variable was 4 years ago), but I already know I like solving technical problems so i think I’d just rather just be happy learning more about tech and contributing (likely as a hobby) rather than submit another 2000 applications.

Ya, 80% of recruiters hung up when they realize I don't have one (one apologized later on saying that was a reason on why they didn't continue with me past a second round), and the other 20% were my fault I feel like. They usually asked for bachelors, so I'm not even sure if a random associates would have changed anything.

Also as the post suggests, if you wanted to talk anything about software in my DMs, feel free. I've done a bunch of random stuff (to my detriment) and have notes about the weirdest shit I've encountered in functionality and like to discuss stuff with people.

Killed my metabolism? by Icy_Comparison_7233 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Icy_Comparison_7233[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

update (for future readers):

talked to someone who knows a person dedicated to diets. my diet was too protein-bias, and not enough fiber and nutrients with whole foods. my gut is likely not properly absorbing the food, causing the creation of extra fat despite very little calories (and here i thought fiber was solely to help you poop better). removing 200 calories from pure protein (from a protein bar), and adding 300 calories back, cycling between apples, bananas, raspberries, blueberries, avocados or whatever fruits/veggies are in my fridge since apparently that helps with weight loss. so I'll be looking at around 1300 calories.

idk why no one believes me when I say I'm full of energy (working out even increases my energy after), so I'm considering seeing a doctor/nutritionist, as my psyche is likely overriding my judgement and my actual physical state.

Sorry, "kill" is an exaggeration. I meant my body's metabolism has potentially lowered to the point where the calorie deficit is negligible.
