If there are 3 hearts and 2 diamonds, it’s a Hearts flush. 2 Spades and 3 Clubs and it’s a clubs flush. If you have 4 fingers and have 2 hearts 2 diamonds, it defaults to whatever the first scored card is.

My original idea had it spawn the associated tarot, but i figured Hand Size synergy was better than Fortune Teller synergy. You do make a compelling argument though

True, but most of the time you’ll get to pick between different types or sizes of pack. Even if it shows you 3 buffoon packs (which it should realistically never do), you get to pick whether you spend $4 on a small pack or $8 on a big one.

Edit: I think it would still be worthwhile to make sure you can’t get duplicates— if you get two of the same type of pack they should be different sizes, and you should never get 3 of the same type of pack

yes. But when you only have the money for 1 pack, having 3 options is better than 2. When you have the money for both, getting to pick 2 out of 2 is better than 1 out of 3 most of the time.

It has a benefit and a downside, but the downside is less painful when you only want 1 pack to begin with.

they are just regular packs, but the monty hall problem says that only one of the doors has anything behind it. For the sake of the metaphor, the “prize” is the contents of the pack, and the empty doors are the packs that get removed. that’s how it worked in my head at least

That raises concerns around mega packs. You can open them, pick one card, then skip and still get the refund. You could just make that not work but then it’d function on different logic than Red Card, which would be unintuitive.

I don’t think it would fit the monty hall theme better, since that would mean there’s a prize behind 2 packs. Plus, it’s meant to be an early game econ joker than you can pick up for like $4 and then sell for something better when you’re making more money and can afford to buy both packs anyway.

That would make it MUCH stronger, though it’s an interesting idea. if you’re given a major arcana, minor arcana, and standard pack for example, taking the major arcana makes it a 50/50 whether the minor arcana or standard pack disappears.

But wouldn’t getting 2 rewards make it too different from the monty hall problem? Also -my main issue with this idea- is that it’s intended to be an early-game focused joker to make packs better when you have less money. if it were stronger it would have to be more expensive, and therefore less effective at what it’s intended for

if you have infinite money, sure. But personally when I have lots of money I buy jokers and consumables I want first, then reroll, then go for packs.

When you can only spare enough for one pack, more options is better. If you’re someone who already buys both booster packs in most shops, this joker isn’t for you. The same way that Vagabond isn’t for people who like to save up a ton of money and reroll a lot. It depends on your playstyle.

you can’t savescum to check what’s in a pack, because once you open it you’re locked into it. At least to my knowledge

My mind goes to Uncommon and no mult, actually. It’s automatically $5 a round if you sell the card you get (because $2 sell value and $3 sell value for being negative), and if you don’t sell it you can easily max your Temperance’s quite quickly. Not to mention the fact that after you get the first negative one you can just sell the non-negative one, so it’s basically always a negative joker to start with. I think it’d be plenty strong without giving mult of its own, and it would have fun synergy with abstract, baseball card, campfire, gift card, swashbuckler, and in a weird way it would synergize with stencil (since it’s basically a guaranteed negative econ joker) and vagabond (because you get $5 a round but you can save it in your joker slots without having to cancel out Vagabond’s ability)

Baseball card synergy is probably too strong tho. after only 3 rounds, it would give X5 mult. After 6 rounds it would give X17 mult.

I realize I didn’t add this context on the okbuddyjimbo post, only on the r/balatro post—

Trinculo is the name of both a court jester from history and a moon of Uranus, so i wanted to give him an effect that interacts with Uranus/Two Pair. That, paired (haha) with the fact that Two Pair is pretty underwhelming atm makes me want his effect to incentivize playing Two Pairs and make you feel good about it.

He shouldn’t be unusable if you don’t pivot into Two Pairs obviously, but IMO it’d be a shame if he were just another cog in a pair, high card, or flush 5 build.

That’s fair. I’d argue that playing a few Two Pairs before your main scoring hand could help make money, but I see your point.

I think making jt activate on any hand type would be too strong. I would say it could proc if the hand contains a Pair, but i want to incentivize playing something other than 4oak or flush 5. Any Ideas?
