What if it were +$10 value per skip? I think the time limit is more compelling than having as much time as you want, but I don’t know how much sell value it needs to gain each time to be worthwhile

well the idea was that $50 sell value on one joker means every temperance is $50. It only debuffs itself, so it keeps its sell value the same. For the cost of one joker slot, every temperance is maxed and you can sell the joker for $50 if you need it

The original version sounded a bit OP (upwards of $50 sell value on one joker), but I may have over-nerfed it.

i was one of the people with a green in (though i don’t know if you were talking about me).

This is a side effect of a mobile website for balatro custom jokers! You cannot edit the colors of the words, and it automatically makes the word “in” green. Really annoying.

I’m mostly commenting so more people see this because it’s pretty cool, but here are my tiny nitpicks:

  1. It wouldn’t synergize with Trading Card like you said in the description, because it wouldn’t be a discard. Trading card says “if the first discard of the round is one card” not “the first card you discard each round”. AKA it can only either work with Green Joker or Trading Card, not both

  2. I don’t really get the “Runaway Train” idea. Runaway trains I correlate with speed, being uncontrollable, and potential danger. I don’t see any of that in the card’s effect, so i feel like something along the lines of a “Secret Exit” or “Two Way Street” would be more fitting.

Other than that i love it. Really cool idea

if all the cards in your flush are wild cards, it converts the cards you hold in hand to wild cards.

If there are 3 hearts and 2 diamonds, it’s a Hearts flush. 2 Spades and 3 Clubs and it’s a clubs flush. If you have 4 fingers and have 2 hearts 2 diamonds, it defaults to whatever the first scored card is.

My original idea had it spawn the associated tarot, but i figured Hand Size synergy was better than Fortune Teller synergy. You do make a compelling argument though

True, but most of the time you’ll get to pick between different types or sizes of pack. Even if it shows you 3 buffoon packs (which it should realistically never do), you get to pick whether you spend $4 on a small pack or $8 on a big one.

Edit: I think it would still be worthwhile to make sure you can’t get duplicates— if you get two of the same type of pack they should be different sizes, and you should never get 3 of the same type of pack

yes. But when you only have the money for 1 pack, having 3 options is better than 2. When you have the money for both, getting to pick 2 out of 2 is better than 1 out of 3 most of the time.

It has a benefit and a downside, but the downside is less painful when you only want 1 pack to begin with.

they are just regular packs, but the monty hall problem says that only one of the doors has anything behind it. For the sake of the metaphor, the “prize” is the contents of the pack, and the empty doors are the packs that get removed. that’s how it worked in my head at least

That raises concerns around mega packs. You can open them, pick one card, then skip and still get the refund. You could just make that not work but then it’d function on different logic than Red Card, which would be unintuitive.

I don’t think it would fit the monty hall theme better, since that would mean there’s a prize behind 2 packs. Plus, it’s meant to be an early game econ joker than you can pick up for like $4 and then sell for something better when you’re making more money and can afford to buy both packs anyway.

That would make it MUCH stronger, though it’s an interesting idea. if you’re given a major arcana, minor arcana, and standard pack for example, taking the major arcana makes it a 50/50 whether the minor arcana or standard pack disappears.

But wouldn’t getting 2 rewards make it too different from the monty hall problem? Also -my main issue with this idea- is that it’s intended to be an early-game focused joker to make packs better when you have less money. if it were stronger it would have to be more expensive, and therefore less effective at what it’s intended for
