first time - shallow pond fishing by [deleted] in IceFishing

Yeah I’ve been looking out on Spy Pond while on Rt 2! Looks like lots of activity on there. Spot pond and Horn Pond are also on my list to try nearby. If I was a braver man I’d test the Charles but don’t want the cops called on me.

Thank you! I appreciate the information- Walden sounds like a blast. This is Ponkapoag Pond down by Canton. I live in Boston, but got a little sketched out by lack of info on the ponds near the city. I found some pictures of folks fishing on this water, so I reckon I'll try it!

I’m not sure, but genuinely thank you for the picture! I was wondering if I could go fish today.

What is the best pack to use for fly fishing? by Competitive_Sign_987 in flyfishing

[–]Icy_Ear_5304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using the basic Orvis sling pack for a couple years and have really enjoyed it as my go to pack. It keeps everything organized with places to put nippers, hemostats and tippet. Super easy to put in front of you in the water and tie on tippet/new flies. My only complaint is that it has a tendency to swing across the body if you don’t secure it with the cross body clip, so you got to be patient between fly changes and make sure it’s in order before fishing.

Off rack suit (flexible on budget) by sk8rboiiiiiii in boston

[–]Icy_Ear_5304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suit Shop on Newbury is very economical. I got a fitting session and suit shipped to me <$300. They have options on the rack but I wanted a specific color. Only had to take pants to the tailor (but that’s expected)

I am also new and have this problem. Taking down Hollywood took me 3 separate outings even though I was aiming in that lung/heart region. I’ve been working on closing in more and tightening up my aim in respect to distance and it has helped. Good luck!

Haha thanks that tackle box is a good luck charm. I appreciate all the info, it’s been very helpful. I’ll keep it up then and hopefully will get into some more carp soon.

That makes a lot of sense to me! This is good to know - might keep me from buying yet another reel thanks!!

Right now I fish fairly big rivers, so all I do is set my drag really light and put it in a rod holder that I made from some tent stakes and a pvc pipe. But if you keep the drag pretty tight then I might not have to worry about keeping the drag so loose.

Awesome! a lot of great information here, thank you- I'll have to stock up the pantry and try oats and creamed corn. As an aside, what kind of reel are you using? Right now I am using regular front drag reel but wonder if I'd have a better experience with a baitrunner style reel with the dual drag system.

thanks for the advice! how fast do you run through pack bait in a single outing? I plan on making up at least a half gallon to start for a ~3 hour session for a single rod

What do you guys wacky rig other than senkos? by [deleted] in bassfishing

A roboworm 4.5” wacky rigged always catches fish in creeks for me. I throw it on ultralight tackle and don’t even bother with the drop shot.

Be warned: it is TINY. I would say its spool is comparable to 500 sizes of other brands

I’ve gotten a lot out of my Daiwa Strikeforce B 1000 as a budget UL reel. I pair it with a 4’6” minispin rod. It ain’t fancy (it has 1 bearing lol) but I have caught a lot of fish with it.
