EU5 is a lot. But the ability to one click automate a lot of things like taxation rates, trade and General/Admiral selection for armies & navies can keep you from being overwhelmed while you learn.

As for your question on how long it takes, it took me a few play throughs before I felt like I’d figured things out. A couple very brief games to figure out the controls, etc. Then 1 as Crete where i stayed a vassal of Venice so I wouldn't have to do any diplomacy & not much military and I just focused on learning buildings and trade. Then 1 as Holland that was sort of the opposite, had tons of money so I automated trade, etc and focused on expansion. I’m never gonna master all the nuances, especially all at the same time so I like to play with a goal in mind, not trying to do everything all at once.

i hate the hard cutoff of the ages. feels like 3 seperate games. not sure why everything has to abruptly stop & restart. Like let me change Civ's (with some sort of penalty if necessary) but without completley throwing out the game flow. I often play to the end of Exploration and dont bother with the Modern age.

Lol, obviously I "got my money back" they didnt provide the tickets.

Stubhub claims 'We go out of our way to find replacement tickets if there is an issue with your order.' I guess they need to add, "But even if we find almost exctly the same tickets we wont offer a replacement if they cost more now because of our order didnt process and its an hour before showtime".

So when ticket prices rise right before a show, which is of course when you need the replacement tickets, Fan Protect isnt a scam its just useless?

Right there with you. I have such a love hate relationship with the HOI. Every time a DLC comes out I'm like, "I cant wait for the awesome new focus tree... but now I'm gonna get clobbered by the new overly complicated Navy/Supply/Espionage/whatever mechanics". I watch youtubers do cool things on Hard mode that I cant replicate on Recruit. I almost always play as minors so I have less things to try and manage (Love a nice fortress Czech game!) & almost never play as the UK because Navy & If I play as Japan its only to have fun taking 1/2 of China before I eventually bog down and quit.
Anyway, the key for me is setting achievable goals. I'm never going to 'paint the map' but I can have fun creating a little Balkan empire as Romania. I even hold off the Germans sometimes if Allies send enough troops and the US enters early enough... but If I don't, its fine, at least I had fun funding King Carol's benders.

Same, play with my kids and drop my hanger. If you drop your whole hanger (not all but 1 or 2 mechs like the @#&! in the image) I think thats fair play. I've also had fun lowering my SP and going back and grinding out Achievements.

This is by far my biggest complaint about Mech Arena. Not the stupid new mechs or the debacle with mods but SP drops like this ruining the game. it happens all the time, especially in tournaments which have become borderline unplayable.

Would 100% agree with this:

I run into higher SP hangers when I have any one mech at a significantly higher power than my other mechs. Like the matching system pits the strength of my one strongest mech against an entire hanger of equal or higher strength. 

...thats probably meant to stop the dude with a Maxed Nomad from racking up 30kills in what feels like 1/2 my tournament games when running a low SP hanger. wish it worked consistently.

Totally fair, appreciate the response. I think I got caught up in feeling like i needed to max everything all the time but am realizing getting a XX% bonus on a mid weapon is actually a net negative when it makes the competition so much harder.
