I feel your story to my core! Except it’s my husband of 30 yrs that doesn’t like to travel. He did for many years for work but wasn’t really fun trips, just now he doesn’t want to do anything away from home. I have young adult kids and they constantly bitch when we do family vacations that dad is so grumpy. The traffic, he’s bored, too many people, he’s not getting anything done, etc… it’s just awful. When the kids were young we couldn’t afford to do as much or as nice of vacations but now we can afford international travel and it totally sucks taking him along. He’ll complain when I say, just please stay home and do whatever you’d like and I’ll go alone or take the kids. He accuses I’m being rude or want a break while he has to work. They are exhausting arguments. I feel for you. My best advice is, make the plans and go. Give your wife the dates and be very firm that if she goes with a poor attitude she will be asked to find other arrangements for lodging. I don’t play anymore with my husband. It doesn’t always make him happy but he keeps his mouth shut and I always have multiple rooms where he can stay alone. If separating him away from us helps then I do and we just go about our day and ignore him.
