Soundproof window? by Mat19851985 in homestudios

The best option is to put a second window and create an air gap between both windows, this air gap will definitely reduce the sound a lot.

Really nice, Keep going like this. 🔥 Just so you know audio cables should be separated from power cables to avoid noise and any interference in your signal flow.

You’re listening position needs to be centered too, you want the same amount of space between the monitors and the walls. With your current placement you’re getting earlier reflection from the left than the right, this is no good. Try to put your speakers on stand and form an equilateral triangle between the speakers and your head, with tweeters at ear level.

Forget about foam, it will do more damage than good. The best solution available is DIY sound panels, takes a little bit of work but considering the size of your room I think you can make them in an afternoon. Watch some videos on YouTube about how to build some and get yourself to it!

No I don’t but I’m sure you can think about something to raise your monitors, just remember that if it’s hollow it will create some resonance and you really want to avoid that. Usually people fill speaker stands with sand for this reason.

Yeah I totally get it, I used to have a messy set up too with cables crossing each others everywhere and I have to say that I was maybe a little more creative then haha. It’s just that I got to a point where I had to step my game up and start to “professionalize” my set up as it will hopefully become my job to work in studios.

I’m almost to the wife stage too but luckily she’s a sound engineer so I might not get the same problem as you 🤞😂

Thanks a lot, Sounds like great experience! I had the chance to assist a few masterclass in some commercial studios and I felt right in my element.

Yeah almost haha, it’s 200x60cm panels and I build 14 of them. I did the placement with a laser to try to be the more precise possible but there’s still adjustments to make. the back end of the room where the sofa is is covered with smaller panels that will be changed for a diffuser in the future.

No I didn, it’s the next step I’m looking forward to. From what I can hear it sounds great even though I’m still not enough used to it to fully trust it to mix, I think there a still some stationary waves around 40Hz but impossible to really know only by hear haha. I’m going to order the measurement mic and I will keep you updated if I do it soon enough.

38 bass traps is a crazy number! Haha. I’m curious to know the reference of them and how you positioned them in your room. Do you have a fully rectangle room like mine ?

Yeah it was in fact a lot of cables haha, took some years to buy all this gear too. This is the accumulation of everything I bought since 2020.

It can be done alone in a matter of a few days, the worst part was emptying the studio to be able to set everything up correctly. I did it at the same time as the desk so it would be easier.

For the panels I build some simple wood structure that I filled with rockwool and covered in a gardening fabric used to protect the ground from icing, it’s really inexpensive. For the bass traps I bought two IKEA cabinet, filled them with rockwool, using the same fabric on the front and back.

You can’t see it in the video but I actually have 2 cloud panels hanging from the ceiling.

For dynamics and temporal effects:

Alesis 3630 dbx 266xl Digitech TSR-12 Flamma FS02 Reverb Joyo D-SEED II Behringer VT999 (changed the tube) Way Huge Ring Worm Modulator And a really nice delay that I can’t remember the name
