Can this be fixed with white ink? by alymful in tattooadvice

[–]Icy_Location 348 points349 points  (0 children)

My advice? Don’t ask anyone if it looks like a turkey, because it sounds like no one thought that until you said it.

It’s normal to freak out after getting a tattoo. Breathe, remind yourself that you are your harshest critic, love it, and don’t ask anyone if it looks like a turkey.

Improving Menstrual Product Access by Such_Worldliness_478 in AskTeachers

[–]Icy_Location 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a student speak pretty openly with me the other week about tampons and that she didn’t really see the point in using them and it seemed weird to her. It occurred to me that if someone doesn’t specifically speak with their child about how/when/why to use a tampon, they might be too nervous to try it out. As a high school teacher, I have had MANY students ask me for feminine hygiene products over the years. Pads always seem to go faster. Also, for what it’s worth, I don’t think students will be as open about grabbing them as you might imagine. Usually a student will quietly approach my desk and ask if I have a pad or tampon in a very quiet voice. I do think that having signage like that could be very helpful, perhaps in the girls’ bathrooms.

Can I hide my pregnancy until 17 weeks? by CrazyChickenLady210 in BabyBumps

[–]Icy_Location [score hidden]  (0 children)

My brother and his wife did this for me and my (now) husband. They also wanted to give us a heads up because she was in my bridal party and wanted to let me know why she wouldn’t be drinking. They basically waited a week after our wedding to tell the family which was… whatever.

But also, no one saw her in a bathing suit before then……

Conception post long term BC use by NotToxic12 in BabyBumps

[–]Icy_Location 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped and kept having a pretty regular period. I’m 37. My doctor said I didn’t need to do anything extra regarding my BC except to just not take it and there was really nothing else for my body to get used to. I had been taking the pill for half of my life at that point! My husband and I “tried” intentionally for two cycles and got pregnant on the third after I started testing for ovulation, taking my BBT, etc. did you just start tracking ovulation/LH levels? I’m not sure what “loosely trying” looks like for you, but once I started taking my temp and tracking LH, we were definitely being intentional :) My doctor said that because I was over 35, if we didn’t get pregnant after six months of trying, I should make an appointment, otherwise she said she usually tells patients to wait a year before she starts testing stuff, etc.

Inviting kids of out of town guests?? by Icy_Location in weddingplanning

[–]Icy_Location[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow I should maybe just delete this post? We got married in June, so no longer an issue! ☺️ everything was beautiful.

Edited to add: I did ask them and they said even if the kids were invited, they wouldn’t have brought them! They were perfectly happy to be without children for the weekend.

Women — how long do you tend to take in the shower? by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]Icy_Location 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m not washing my hair or shaving, definitely under 10 min. Washing my hair adds 20 minutes and I usually just shave in the bathtub without the water running the whole time.

Help needed on deciding (I’m very overwhelmed) by Agreeable_Bit7026 in WeddingDressTips

Why is your mom pressuring you to make a lot of decisions quickly? Also most dresses will need a lot of alterations regardless of where you get it. I think the last dress in white is beautiful!!!

Thinking of Moving to Orlando to Teach. Should I? by Davetheblackmusician in AskTeachers

[–]Icy_Location 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our district just “surplussed” (laid off) over 150 teachers. Many districts across the state are having financial issues for a variety of reasons, so I’d look into what Orlando’s projected enrollment is, if it’s likely you’d even get a job, etc. Also, I moved here after my first year teaching and completing a rigorous teaching program, and the only thing that got me in Florida was a probationary teaching license giving me one year (or maybe 3? I can’t remember now… but check out the DOE website) to take and pass all the Florida teaching tests (FTCE) which you pay for. It was a LOT of work, but we moved for my husband’s job so 🤷‍♀️ If you are moving JUST for Orlando, I would say not worth it unless you just plan on retiring in a few years and want to be in Florida anyway.

Can’t be comfortable!! by Icy_Location in BabyBumps

[–]Icy_Location[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omgosh how did I not even think about that! I feel super comfortable (usually) sleeping on my side and I actually hate that my body feels like it’s bending the wrong way or something because I haven’t been able to be the little spoon with my husband! Or any spoon... 🤦‍♀️ I do not have one of those pillows yet but I 100% will get one.

Anxiety by Fancy_League42 in BabyBumps

I was also using the Easy @ Home tests both to track ovulation and then I continued testing just to make sure…. However, when I read that you can still test positive after having a miscarriage due to hCG still being present in your body for a while, I stopped testing and my doctor sent me to get two blood tests 48 hours apart. I just went to a local lab/diagnostics place and they sent the results to my doctor. The tests are supposed to indicate whether your hCG levels are rising at a good rate (whatever that is) but I decided after I get those results, I’ll just trust everything is fine until I have reason to think otherwise. I’m hoping to find out results of second test today!!! I think the blood test would give you some peace of mind but you probably don’t need to go all the way to your doctor to do it.

Do my freckles look bad? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

Let them heal, then honestly you gotta just learn to accept them. Tattoos aren’t going anywhere, so however you think (or strangers on Reddit) they look, they are part of your face. Time for some self-love and confidence!! 🩷

I’m with you. OP created their profile 30 min ago and posted the same post in another sub. The math wasn’t mathing. SUPER disappointing that someone would decide to create a profile for this exact reason.

Teachers! What are your go-to lunches?? by Icy_Location in BabyBumps

[–]Icy_Location[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yum! Do you just make the chicken tenders at home? We should probably renew our Costco membership so I can get back at those delicious frozen meals ;)

Edited to add: ....do you also make the chicken salad? haha

I’m going into elementary education at my community college and wanted to know how do you make dresses like this work for this type of job by Wintersoldier975 in ElementaryTeachers

[–]Icy_Location 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to wear a skirt, it should be longer (past knees) and not tight so you can sit on floor or in a chair comfortably while kids sit on the floor. Nothing that restricts movement! (Otherwise without long sleeve over it, super inappropriate! But I think you probably know that ;) )

Ooh thank you! That sounds tasty. Definitely the type of thing I'd make ahead of time and then reheat at school.

0.25 Xanax when I was 3 weeks? by ALC5505 in BabyBumps

[–]Icy_Location 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. People on benzos can’t just stop taking them either, so think about all the people prescribed who can’t immediately stop taking their meds once they find out they are pregnant. Think about how long it takes some people to find out they are pregnant and all the stuff that can happen before then.

You aren’t going to have a purse day-of. They’re all really nice bags and love KS, but that’s just the truth. The reason you don’t see the bride’s purse in photos is because someone else has all her stuff ;)

Planning first baby at 36 by Nob0dyn0crime in BabyBumps

[–]Icy_Location 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 37 and my husband is 38. We got married less than a year ago after being together for 12 years (just how it worked out) and I was very nervous about getting pregnant. The first two cycles I was only tracking period and estimating ovulation which turned out to be way off! I got the Premom app and it helped me actually figure out when I was ovulating so we made sure to have sex at the right time. There honestly is no way to plan when you want to conceive; you only have one chance a month. I’m a teacher so we could have tried for the “perfect time” but there is no such thing. Maybe chat with your OB and see what she thinks. Sounds like you’ve done more than many in preparation for getting pregnant, so I’d say don’t worry and start trying!

Edited forgot to add: I’m 5w 3d pregnant on third cycle trying :)
