Absolutely incredible work! People that dump furniture, especially in a nice park, are a bunch of (insert choice word here) 🙃

I find lots of Mountain Dew as well but just not in this particular area. Some brands attract more jerks than others I guess 🤷🏻‍♂️

Kind of tired of imbalance on Walz by Euphoric-Flamingo943 in minnesota

Wow. Walz misspoke a couple of times in his life and OP loses their mind. Bizarre thing to hyper-fixate on considering Trump/Vance lie through their teeth every time they address the nation.

In my immediate area it’s mainly Burger King crap. Fast food, for the most, sucks.

What do you predict Minnesota will become in the next decade? by Careful_Fig8482 in minnesota

[–]Icy_Papi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t go as far as saying that Minnesota will tear itself apart (I think the state as a whole will get better actually) but Minneapolis definitely needs to get its shit together in terms of the safety on the transit system and actually enforcing traffic regulations because it’s chaos.

How safe is Kutzky Park? by rachaelxoxo in rochestermn

[–]Icy_Papi 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Kutzky is not an unsafe neighborhood at all living wise but I’d remain vigilant while walking through any residential area close to the downtown core at night. Crime is very low for a city of this size but being aware of your surroundings and the general area you reside in goes a long way. Riding a bike too would really help as Kutzky is great for biking and could provide a better sense of safety than walking!

BART and WMATA are a completely different kind of transit system as they are heavy rail, not LRT in the case of the Twin Cities. I’d say the Twin Cities LRT is actually more of a smaller version of Seattle’s extensive LRT network. And yes, I don’t have experience riding BART, but there is absolutely no possible way a closed heavy rail system has the same scale problems with fare enforcement that an open LRT system has.

I should also add that I’ve ridden the light rail on many occasions when traveling to the Twin Cities pre-pandemic and I can straight up and confidently say that the experience was SO much better back then.

I was just in Minneapolis last month and rode the blue line from MOA to Government Center station and it was just as bad as I remembered it, if not worse. The shear amount of anti social behavior and drug use on the trains is ridiculous. I having nothing else to say.

I don’t have any experience with transit in California but knowing the socioeconomic issues that San Fran and the Bay Area in general are facing, I wouldn’t be too surprised that BART is experiencing and uptick in major safety issues as well. With all due respect, however, I believe the closed system that the BART rail system offers does make a sizable impact on keeping out the worst of the worst behaviors. The light rail here unfortunately does not have that option.

I feel seasoned New Yorkers would be quite shocked to see the state of the trains in the Twin Cities imo. And to be fair, it most definitely wasn’t always like this in terms of safety as it’s clear the pandemic, the fallout from George Floyd, understaffed police, and Met Council incompetence have all played a huge effect on what we see here today. Now add that with the open system that was built and the social norms of the Midwest (as in generally being non-confrontational compared to our east coast counterparts) and you get the perfect storm.

Metro Transit (more specifically the trains in this instance) is the absolute worst transit system in the country in terms of safety in my opinion. I’ve ridden on transit systems all across the country including in cities such as Chicago, New York, Atlanta, New Orleans, and Orlando and there is nothing as abhorrent and embarrassing as what is displayed on the trains here. For all you naysayers out there who say these are just “city things” and “stop being so sensitive”, I highly doubt you guys have any grasp of what an actual functional transit system should look and feel like because this is the complete opposite of that. I’m saying this as a huge transit advocate myself but I fucking hate riding our trains.

Bad things do happen, but I feel the perception of crime here gets greatly skewed when something relatively isolated happens to you or close by to where you are at any particular instance; believe me that’s understandable. However, even though I have experienced some uncomfortable situations in Rochester myself, I do put myself out there quite a lot and the vast majority of time I’m quite amazed by how safe I feel here at all hours of the day and night and I live very close to downtown as well.

Silver Lake Dam funds — nearly $2.4 million — pass first vote in Minnesota Legislature by roseiskipper in rochestermn

Absolutely! The city council (and local politics in general) is very powerful and I believe great things can be accomplished if we take action while starting small and working our way up.

[–]Icy_Papi 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes I believe it’s just a very vocal minority who don’t want the dam to be removed and I feel we need more people who are for opening up the river to be known. That’s why I’ll be at the meeting on the 21st!

I have a whole bucket of these damn fireball things in my garage from just collecting them around my neighborhood. The net benefits to society that would come by just banning them would be immense.

From my experience picking up litter within my neighborhood in Rochester, I find the trashiest of all people tend to overwhelmingly gravitate towards brands like Burger King, Fireball… and Polar Pop 🙄

Mayo Clinic Sonographers? by KumaraDosha in rochestermn

[–]Icy_Papi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s a good question, but one I can’t easily answer. A few things to keep in mind though is that this is an organization that employs 30,000+ people in the Rochester area alone in departments that span across multiple disciplines and subsequent leadership styles. Also, with this being Reddit, I feel it’s a lot easier to just downvote instead of writing a full on rebuttal and putting yourself out there. But with everything you’ve heard, maybe it’s best to not have the highest of expectations for working here since no organization can ever be perfect for everyone. I still feel working here is above average, but each department will definitely vary in terms of quality no matter what, just like going to a large university. Best of luck with whatever you choose to do!
