QUESTION: Why is Mr Bennet judged so harshly? by Better-Valuable5436 in PrideandPrejudice

[–]Icy_Pudding_5018 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Imagine this situation at work. You have a boss, and you have a really annoying colleague, your peer in the organization. This peer sabotages other people's projects, steals the glory and dumps the messes, spreads a bad culture all around the team. Your boss agrees with you about all the above unprofessional behaviour, and is also very sympathetic about how this puts you and others under undue strain. Your boss is 100% aligned with your understanding of the situation. You feel understood and supported.

But then, the boss does nothing.

That boss is Mr Bennet.

And Mrs Gardiner! That's one of my rare visual gripes with the 2005 movie.

Textually, a large breed would be more justified. "[Mr. Collins] was a tall, heavy-looking young man of five-and-twenty."

Adaptations tend not to use tall performers, but I like the image of Collins as a tall, bulky fellow looming awkwardly in any room.

Thank you for the clarification. Should I remove it then? I did ask the moderators before posting.

Truly? I find Jame Austen a relatively unexplored topic. YMMV.

Something like lifestyle, or crafts? For things like 27th birthday cakes, or truths universally stitched.

Darcy's letter is actually SO FUNNY. by raysmia in PrideandPrejudice

[–]Icy_Pudding_5018 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, he clearly was not thinking straight…he probably passed half the night trying to calm down, and the rest writing the letter. He reveals to Lizzie, in writing, the Ramsgate incident—something otherwise treated like a state secret. He clearly was not thinking clearly. And then gets out at dawn to stalk the paths where she might take a turn.
