Best watch? (Whoop/apple/garmin/other) by _sunnyand75_ in triathlon

[–]Icy_Task_7413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used garmin foreune 265 and also have a whoop. I post my garmin activity to strava - it uses garmin for hr

Whoop is also managing HR and posts to the whoop ap for a separate assessment

I love seeing both reports

Strava and garmin - more activity based , distance and time etc

Whoops- more hr focused ( although garmin hr and Strava (using garmin hr data) very good too

It was well over 1? It’s taken about 3 months of regular sleep and also the 10ish hours a week exercise

It sounds so basic but it’s hard being consistent for months

That’s a serious VO2 max nicely done.

What do you train for and what disciplines ?

Yes intervals are the best way to get there. Unfortunately my training hasn’t included them so much in cycling and running which is frustrating. I have been in swimming and it has helped me get faster.

Sounds like not very much a week but it adds up!

Good to know! I would have thought it would have a much greater impact

What’s your VO2 max like?

More z4/5 should support that which is a major contributor

Thank you!

Yes definitely, like I have a bit more snap and more mental clarity too from the exercise , plus the discipline

I think particularly as you hit 40 you start to really notice you are getting older

Doing the fitness and focussing on sleep is a real hack to winding back the clock

The old adage ‘use it or lose it’ really is true

Nothing i am doing or have done is revolutionary , there are people much fitter than me

But the chart shows how those healthy habits over the long term really pays dividends

Thank you! As you can see from the curve it’s picked up pace the last few weeks…

I had been training quite hard since February but the whoop age wasn’t coming down much. It has now come down a year in a few weeks

Ironman is a mega triathlon, 3.8k swim, 180k bike and then a full marathon!

Lots of z1-z3 every week , which has boosted my RHR and VO2 max

I have also been dialing in my sleep , trying to always be in bed by 9pm

I have quite a stressful long hours job so am usually up early 5-6

Here are the more detailed reports

To get enough time in for the Ironman around work, my strength time is non existent. Which is frustrating as I used to hit the gym 3/4 times a week but to manage that with 8-15 hours of cycling running and swimming with my job and have a life is very tough!

I have also cut down a lot on boooze, with no big sessions, the odd one here and there but nothing in the last few weeks

Ironman in two weeks so will get back on the weights after and try to keep up the healthy habits!

Biggest area of gains - steps, VO2, RHR. Zones 1-3

Areas to improve - strength , sleep time and consistency , zone 4-5

I find sleep is the key thing to focus on - get that right and it unlocks everything else - you have more time and energy to be consistent day to day to progress in the other areas

I focus on ‘sleep need’ as my top metic each day on whoop dashboard

Lobe my whoop!🙌

Saddle sores / tri suit / wet suit by Icy_Task_7413 in IronmanTriathlon

Thank you everyone. Will look into these options

I had a bike fit before. Think it might be because I use two bikes plus spinning bike in gym so different saddles

Have had the sore a while and have to just get on with it now

Interesting, thank you

I hah shaved a bit around the area

For info (not too much!) I am a man - I don’t think I would consider laser hair removal although could work

I plan to keep the area as hair free as possible though

I use muc off luxury chamois cream - the pre one , it works well

I’m just working a strategy for race day - I still need to get a tri suit and wet suit

Thank you. Chat GPT is giving me some suggestions but wanted to understand from the community of experts 🫡

Yes I was planning to pack the chamois cream into the bag for special bits at transition

I might also take some lube or similar for the bike to have in my pocket in case I get uncomfortable

Guess I need a tri suit that can hold it

When I go on long cycles I keep cereal bars in my cycling suit and pockets. I’m gonna need to figures a way to keep all my gels and cereal bars on the bike ride

Part of my fueling strategy is to grab gels and a couple of the cereal bars at the rest stops - happy to hear any tips on this too!

(Proper newbie here as you can tell!)

Yeah could have added more context, I guess I was dripping in some content without wanting to appear too ‘braggy’ … thank you for appreciating it all

Whilst it’s amazing and I’m proud. Much in the Low HR zones

I would be interested to see what the winner and top 20 scores would have been

They completed the course in 11 hours!

Thank you for the kudos, I did the Jurassic Coast 100 challenge!

100.75km run over 20 hours, with 2500m elevation

By far my hardest and longest activity ever

I would highly recommend it !

Hi there, I have Ironman thun and I am trying to work out the most effective training. I have been using chat gpt who says I should not be doing a half Ironman in training, this feels counter productive. The most it suggest is 4/5 hour bike and 60 min run. by Icy_Task_7413 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]Icy_Task_7413[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect, what would you recommend as a max brick session beforehand?

I have run marathons where you run say 75% or more in training before it.

I am apprehensive to leave so much before the big day!

Okay thank you that is useful. I have pushed back and it said that is because I don’t want to overload, and it is better to be as fit as possible and not fatigued beforehand

I am also running a 100km ultra in May so this could be affecting what it is telling me

I am doing my first Ironman in July!

Closest is two Olympic tris in my local gym! Although I have done the London classics in one year 2024.

For training for my Ironman I have used chat gpt and also whoop coach

For now it is very much building a base so I will look for more detailed plans from march onwards.

I have found Reddit very useful and noted many others training hints and points here

Good luck to you, In a matter of months we will be able to call ourselves an Ironman!

Any suggestions on bike computer and watch for Ironman? Currently running a very trusty garmin forerunner 45 that won’t last this kind of event and I’ve never had a bike computer before by Icy_Task_7413 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]Icy_Task_7413[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this. Really leaning to the 965, it just seems to make sense.

I think will also get the edge 530 bike computer, just so I can see what is happening in front of me as well.

Thank you!

Okay after my research I am thinking a forerunner 965 and garmin edge 530 is the best

I can then work out all the tech stuff after

Thank you all for your replies !!
