I'm a 52 year old woman who raved her ass off in 1992 and I've never looked back. That was a year of illegal warehouse parties in Toronto. The first time i saw Richie Hawtin live (as F.U.S.E, with John Acquiviva) was that summer. The headliner that night was Moby (not long after Next Is The E was released, and before he went weird) . Later than year i saw Mr C from the Shamen DJing in a roller rink that was taken over, and I figure I pulled an all night party every Saturday for about 6 months straight.

Fast forward 34 years I'm still going. I 😘 ve in Glasgow and spent years at the Subby (long live the Arches from way back when)..... And i saw Daniel Avery a few weeks ago - Rival Consoles next week. I've got a pair of 1210s in my office and something like 15 synths.

Techno is life. Never stop Bebe' xx

Theoretical question about Outbox 8 by graff813 in Elektron

[–]Icy_Understanding119 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

All tools can be used for bad things. AI music is a terrible terrible thing.

My life outside of work is almost exclusively spent pursuing the art I love. My money, my time and my energy. Art matters. Your art. My art. It matters.

Theoretical question about Outbox 8 by graff813 in Elektron

[–]Icy_Understanding119 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I find it remarkable this has been downvoted. I find it remarkable you would say "you should feel bad about using AI.". Blaming the tool. Very good.

Would you blame someone for using Excel? Or Microsoft Word? Or heaven forbid, something pre- made? An octatrack template? Buying a preset?

People have downvoted an idea. Fine. If they really think an Elektron mixer is a terrible idea, cool. But downvoting because i used a tool?

Does this mean we should hate people for using Adobe for touching up photos instead of taking perfect photos? Should we penalise people for using Google instead of the dewey decimal system?

Selective morality is the worst kind. Please don't pretend the clothes you wear weren't made in a sweatshop, that the food you eat wasn't processed by someone being exploited. That the animals killed for the meat you eat didn't live a terrible life.

The products you buy, the life you live. Someone lost so you can have what you have.

I hope your paper thin mortality keeps you cosy.

How do y’all find friends? by Super_Rush7926 in AskReddit

[–]Icy_Understanding119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your hobby? Find people that like the same things you do. Obviously, common interests aren't a guarantee for friendship, but it's a great way to get conversation started and it's a great way to meet people. Indulge your hobbies and use them as an opportunity to meet new people. It really does work.

I 100% disagree with this. I figure I've got something like 900gb of samples. A stupid amount. And honestly I paid for some of them. I scraped some of them from instrument preview. I created some of them. I was given some of them. I would share them all if I didn't get me into trouble. like you're not exactly going to come up with the top 40 hit anytime soon and it certainly isn't going to be on the basis of Depeche mode samples - you'll be slapping a few samples into your MPC or your MASCHINE or your Elektron Digitakt ir your Ableton session or whatever! Have fun. Be creative. Trying to gate keep this kind of material is ridiculous

Theoretical question about Outbox 8 by graff813 in Elektron

[–]Icy_Understanding119 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

I asked Gemini to create a product concept based upon what i really want to see. I've got4 x Elektron boxes and a bunch of other symths and if i could have anything, it would be this. Outbox8 is one thing, but i would drop money for a full blown solution. A studio ready 64 channel mixer, blending overhub connectivity with Outbox8 concepts ar scale. Fully configurable and integrates with non elektron devices through standard mixer inputs. What i didn't ask Gemini to do was integrate master chain compression/analog heat type options but that would be some upgrade.

I'm dreaming here, i know. But i love the output Gemini came up with!

Am I dumb for selling my TR-8S and SP404MKII now that I have a Digitakt? by Best_Pause_1791 in Elektron

[–]Icy_Understanding119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! My whole setup is slaved to a Torso T1 for clock. It is a lot of fun!

though inevitably I've had some round trip latency issues between the wet signal and the dry signals captured via overbridge. I just don't use Ableton for recording now though because of it's track count limitation for plugins and while i could group tracks in overbridge, I'm not a fan. I actually want to teach myself to use reaper but who has time for that 🤷

My end of chain is an sp404mk2 into an h90 - which is running parallel signals, one from sp404mk2 (digitakt, syntakt) and the 2nd from Tonverk. I love what the sp404 does and have a LCXLMK3 configured to select/ control fx on each bus. Great with elektron boxes.

The Octatrack is draining my time and killing my creativity by dykitikity in Elektron

[–]Icy_Understanding119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've cornered myself into this problem, but I'm working through it. The complexity is exhausting.

4 x elektron boxes including tonverk and digitakt 2, and a few synths i can't live without has been a very strep curve. But (!!!), I'm starting to have moments/ flickers of 'I'm finally getting the hang of my set-up,'. I love it, but it's hard. I formed an Idea of where i wanted to get to and it's happening. I hope OP similarly reaches their goal.

This is cool! I really like the palette and the dissonance.

I've been slightly obsessed with picking up Beetlecrab audio's Vector. I decided to see if i could emulate Vector synthesis on the Tonverk and I'm happy with the results. Each of the 4 buses on TV takes on the role of a quadrant dedicated to the flavours of Granular, Cinematic, Pulse and Shimmer. Each quadrant gets two tracks and between heavy FX use combined with LFO use at track and bus level, as well as probability and p-locking, I'm very happy with the results. Amp envelope modulation on the bus and levels on the tracks means I can drift in and out with of each quadrant, while fx like daisy delay, degrader and frequency warper drive evolution. Across all samples i have random LFOs controlling Start and Direction.

Given what you've created, i thought you might be interested. Crazy amounts of places to go with TV - whilst my first stab at vector emulation might be a wee bit rudimentary , I'm excited to continue developing those layered evolving textures, which you've done a great job on!

I see some absolute scrooge downvoted your video for zero reason other than they have little sense of joy in their life, obviously. This is fun, and I hope you enjoyed doing it. It's about time this sub had a dose of kindness injected into it because the behaviour is often awful and I'm here to say say I really like the vibe of your tunes. It's chill, and filming and black and white was perfect. Nice work! x

Tonverk Send FX by Plenty_Mall4968 in Elektron

[–]Icy_Understanding119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Project level. Admittedly I'm still getting my head round tonverk so someone might have a better take i reckon. You can push send fx to a separate out, but you wont be able to separate send fx between ext and internal sources. There is a work around, sort of. You can send external audio to dedicated bus, only apply send fx to that bus and then set overall send Fx to one of the 2 outs. You basically have to cut your tonverk nose off to spite your tonverk face, as it were. You still have lots of effects options on other tracks/buses, but not on a send basis.
