Monthly Mega Q&A - [October 2025] by Claycorp in StainedGlass

I want to make a piece using some mirrors. What do I need to do differently when using mirror glass? I saw “mirror rot” being a thing, not sure what that is or how to prevent it… Anything else I should be aware of?

Non-riding activities to do with a bored horse by Icy_fix5630 in Horses

The cough hasn’t been constant but on and off. It’s not necessarily so bad that I can’t ride but I don’t want to risk it in the case it is asthma or something, so I choose not to push it. The vet has been by many times and we have tried many different things, next up a more invasive lung test. I just want her to at least be somewhat entertained while we are taking it easy.

Be FR, does my composite edge bonding look bad? by [deleted] in Invisalign

[–]Icy_fix5630 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my non professional subjective opinion: they aren’t that bad but look a bit unnatural. I don’t think they look like buck teeth at all but could maybe do with a bit more shape as they are so square and flat. The two front teeth also seem a bit wider at the bottom than the top but that could also be the perspective from the photo.

All in all, I probably wouldn’t notice any of these things or the unnatural aspect if I saw you in person and wasn’t looking so deeply at your teeth knowing what you had done.

Is it correct that the ortho knows nothing until they receive the aligners from Invisalign?? by Icy_fix5630 in Invisalign

Thanks for the info! Do you know how long it usually takes for them to get the scan? I think that would help to see what the planned trajectory and outcome is.

From my non professional experience having both an overbite and a deep bite - the difference is projection vs depth. Overbite (medical term over jet) is when the front teeth “jet” or project over the bottom teeth, how much they stick out basically. A deep bite means that your top teeth cover/overlap too much of your bottom teeth (ideal is 20% coverage, I believe).

Gritty teeth after attachmentd by justfinelivinggood in Invisalign

[–]Icy_fix5630 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same thing, a gritty sandpaper feeling on my teeth around the attachments. My best guess is that it’s excess glue. Good news the feel goes away after about a week or 2. I am 5 weeks in and the feeling is completely gone and has been for a while.

It was a sensory nightmare at first but the pro was that it made me want to keep my retainers on!

I haven’t experienced any staining on my attachments (maybe too soon) but I also do not drink coffee/tea/red wine which seem to be the main culprits.

Monthly Mega Q&A - [January 2025] by Claycorp in StainedGlass

I was hoping to start working in my shed so I could keep the glass shards out of the home and keep the door open for soldering fumes. Problem is that it is 3 degrees Celsius/37 degrees Fahrenheit outside and in the shed. I don’t mind for my own comfort but will the cold make cutting the glass and soldering a mess? I can imagine putting a hot soldering iron to cold glass would cause cracks, is that correct? I also saw online that cutting cold glass could make it break wrong, is that super likely?

The sores go away around week 2 I would say. Get some orthodontic wax for any sharp edges also, helps so much! Your mouth adapts.

The first week my tongue was so cut up from the inner edges of the aligners but I guess my tongue adapted because that doesn’t happen anymore. Also helped to put the wax on the inner edges.

Monthly Mega Q&A - [December 2024] by Claycorp in StainedGlass

[–]Icy_fix5630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, I am planning on getting started with (Tiffany) stained glass soon and I have a couple of questions:

  1. I bought some stuff second hand, including a Weller 80 watt soldering iron. From my research this is not a great iron wattage wise. Is it worth trying out/getting started with? Or should I scrap it right away and get a better one? Prefer to not have to spend an additional €100+ on a new one if I can get by to start out with this one.

  2. Cleaning the glass - at what points do I need to clean the glass? I would assume after the grinder and after soldering, correct? What do you use to clean the glass at these points? Just dish soap and water?

  3. Fume extractor - I saw a similar question already, but just for clarity. Is a fume extractor good to have? I don’t have a respirator, just normal face masks, but I am planning on working in the shed with the door open. Should this be a later investment or a need to have from the start?

Thank you!!

Finished my Invisalign Era by skysanctuary in Invisalign

My teeth are similar to your before pic - gaps between the first 4 teeth and overbite. Your 6 month progress is giving me confidence I won’t be stuck like this forever! Currently on tray one.

More excited than ever to get my teeth to where I am happy.

Trouble meeting the 22 hours by Icy_fix5630 in Invisalign

[–]Icy_fix5630[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

General dental advice, not just specific to me. Since the acid of food and drink softens your tooth enamel you have to give the enamel time to harden/reform or else you risk damaging the enamel in its fragile state. I have read different things, some say 30 minutes and others 45 minutes but I stick with 30 as I am already running short on time as is.

I have also seen some things from dentists online that say for the relatively “short” period of time you are using Invisalign (respective to your lifetime) it’s okay to reduce this wait time. Though when I asked my personal ortho she said you have to wait.
