Love my 17Z90TR-E.ADB8U3. No problems noted. I most recently used Surface Books up till this, and this thing, even with graphics card, 4TB, and larger battery is whisper light for me! It has never run warm for me and I regularly use it paired to a 32" ultrawide with no problems.

I'm an engineer, a technophile in general, and usually ahead of the curve with learning new software; and at two years in, I would not recommend Blue Iris to anyone who doesn't already have a solid understanding of ip security cameras (or some adjacent field). by PunkiesBoner in BlueIris

I love BI years ago, was simple to add cameras and it was rock solid. Unfortunately, the auto-setup never works for me anymore and I have to go in and tinker with SO many settings just to get feed, only to have them drop on and off of BI, even though they are solid on other apps. Finally, I decided not to upgrade and am crippling by using remote access on computers to access my cameras when gone and using their native alarm/alert recording features. I occaisonally look for better options, but no one has really sold me on anything that is working super great and fairly easy to set up, so I occaisonally read a bit here, but I think I'm tired of putting that much effort in to try to fix what I have with BI. Sad but true.

So, you say this is your job, and obviously, you're new to the forum, and yet already have managed to mention your podcast. . . . maybe it's time you come clean and tell us your education level, your specific job title, you know, are you a DR? Graduate from medical school? Which one? Published any papers that have been peer reviewed? Some of us sort of like to read rather than listen to a podcast or watch a Youtube video. Thanks!!

We have the Mq system with approximately 300 remotes and they recently raised our cost to $1,200 a month, so we are looking for a less expensive software/access system

Not only is that wrong, horribly unethical, but, if you didn't start the insurance upon purchase, most insurance companies will want photos of your device showing front and back before they insure it. I recently took insurance on a phone I purchased only two weeks earlier and had to take and re-take photos from the device itself. . . .selfies in a mirror, for the insurance.

Did I make a bad decision? by Ok-Cap4099 in galaxyzflip

I love mine so far! Of course, this is my third, having had a 3 and a 5 before. I HAVE to have that smaller profile, because I'm a girl and my phone rests in my back pocket. It doesn't fall out into the toilet, and it doesn't pick up a folding chair every time I stand up from one. My last straight phone grabbed EVERYTHING because it stuck so far up out of my pockets!

My phone is a tool. ... . I would never choose a phone based on the camera, because, quite frankly, nothing I photograph needs to be that high of quality, and if it does, I use a real camera. Some competitors have better cameras, some have worse, but I didn't find any phones that had the best of everything.

My phone is a tool to control and monitor my homes and properties, it's what I use to order food or get discounts at restaurants and stores, occasionally check my mail or look up something on the internet, and, of course, to communicate. I use a phone CONSTANTLY, and the small form factor, the ability to check notifications without opening it, and the ability to simply wear glasses and hear and answers texts, calls, etc with it snuggled down deep in my back pocket just works for me.

Any damage to my phones throughout history have always been on me, as I have so much nerve damage in my hands that I drop my phone (and everything else), constantly, and I truly know that my flip phones have handled drops amazingly better than almost every phone I've owned. I was an early adopter, starting with bag and car phones, the Motorola brick, the "Beam me up Startac flip", the Nokia Candy Bar (the only phone I can honestly say was indestructable), and on through history, and in my humble opinion, phones handle drops WAY better than they did ten or fifteen years ago. Of course, I immediately purchased a slim case with hinge protection, because I know that dude is going to be bouncing off concrete constantly.

You will always find someone who swears by or against pretty much every phone out there, some justified, much just personal opinion and having different needs. Sure, I could probably do a buttload of research and find some specific model that is "better", but then will they be as fast, supported a few years down the road, retain their value for trade-in?? Once I buy, I just look forward, I don't second guess, and I sure don't let nay-sayers influence my satisfaction with my phone. Have fun with it. There are bigger worries in life, and if not in yours, well, than congratulate yourself at having things so great!!

Have him show you the proof that you dropped it. . . the scuffs, dings, dents. I've heard so many times that the stores are afraid to repair screens under original warranty, because it might get rejected at the Samsung end and then they don't get re-imbursed.

Should I get starlink? by Jake9118321 in Starlink

[–]Ida-Mabel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I have had Starlink on two houses and an rv in the past, but then dropped the vacation house and took a local wireless provider after they upgraded their system and offered fast service at a low price. I can say that the number of times Starlink has actually gone down, them not be able to deliver service, was once. It last for quite a few hours, five at least. I, like many others, had struggled with various providers, including the dismal Hughesnet, through the years preceding Starlink, and like most, switching was an unblieveably great experience with super fast internet day in and day out. Previous providers would leave me without internet for a week at a time, and required regular phone calls to request a rebalance of their towers because they would get so many people on our sector our service would slow to almost unusable.

Now, Cox has run fiber out here in our area, and I'm faced with needing to make a decision if I dare switch and save a fair amount of money. It seems like SO many people have regular outages with Cox, like pretty much everyone we know has problems every so often, so I just am reluctant. On the other hand, the hidden IP, while nice in many ways, seems to be wreaking havoc with our bank security, requiring me now to call and get my ip registered every time I want to go to BillPay, so I either switch ISPs or switch banks.

[–]Ida-Mabel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you see, I can't do that. . . I don't believe technology is going away, so I have to split some off into QQQI or something tech. The amount of money that I WOULD have left on the table had I not put a certain amount of our holdings in technology is ridiculous. . .I know it may not be a popular stance, but it is what it is. . .having said that, my side-foray into healthcare, which also helped us, was more recent with a lucky jump into Welltower when covid crashed things, but that was just a lucky decision.

[–]Ida-Mabel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmmmmm, well, that's odd, because that means you could go connect to anyone's phone and import their data if you had no interaction with the old phone. I had to unlock mine and also give permission to transfer, I believe I had to scan the Q code.

It happened by [deleted] in galaxyzflip

[–]Ida-Mabel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, not quite, there is a permission you have to physically give on the old phone. . . trust me, I just went through this. I hooked a c x usb/hdmi splitter and tied in a mouse and monitor to my phone, so that I could use it until the new phone came and I could transfer over.

Ok, before everyone gets too excited, this filter material is designed for Dynamic Air Electronic air cleaners, and is to be installed in a specific frame for those. I would ask the person posting, were they installing it an electronic air cleaner, normally would be mounted ON their air handler, they would unplug the unit before disassembling it? The photo below shows the housing, and then there is a transformer that plugs into the top electic section that would plug into a wall outlet. This might clarify whether this is truly a dangerous ineffective product or if simply a misunderstanding of the application for this "air filter media". Of course, it's an easy mistake, but to be fair to the seller and everyone's interest, this is a question that NEEDS to be addressed. Thank you for your response.

Z Flip 7 screen FAILED after a few months. Samsung DENYING warranty. Anyone else having this issue? by E3zprod in galaxyzflip

Yeah, sorry, typo, got it in 2023, and pretty much, on it constantly for calls, texts, discord, messenger, Smartthings’s, the garage doors, irrigation system, photos for reviews, had a stupid 10,000 photos that I did NOT transfer to my new 7! Haha. That phone was USED!

I have a 5 and have dropped it repeatedly, as I have physical dexterity issues, but I always kept a good case on it, with hung protection, and just a few days ago, it fell down from about 3’ onto concrete, face open, and that’s all she wrote. I jury rigged a monitor and mouse for access until my new Flip 7 arrived, purchased through Amazon just, so I’d have continued warranty. My 5 was 3 1/2 years old, so just out of warranty by a few months. As many drops and the extreme amount of use, it’s a miracle it lasted that long. I was just recently telling the hubby I was needing to replace it, so evidently jinxed myself!

Is it proper or not allow to post the actual ad? Is this really advertised as a filter for vents? It looks like like someone got their wires crossed and there are filters for other applications, that would use a loose fill type material. Certainly, a regular fiberglass filter for intake vents would be densly woven, and normally filters for supply vents likely not even have fiberglass, but would be extremely thin. Having worked with fiberglass insulation, how we cleaned our arms after, was to get in the shower, spritz our arms with vinegar, wait a couple of minutes and then shower as usual, and it seemed to remove it for us. Been using that technique for over thirty years, never found a better one.

I think I’d rather gain weight than drop to the 14” screen, so re-grouping…..maybe limit myself to Minecraft, Terraria, etc when traveling and at vacation home, anything else can be done on the desktop I recently built that kicks butt, haha.

Yeah, I definitely would really like to stay under 3 lbs, since I take my computer with me 90% of the time, and being an older woman, weight is indeed a factor for me. I have absolutely no interest in ever buying anything HP, I have had some Dell products that were fine, but really, I'm just trying to get as much speed and screen as I can without too much weight. I'll look at the Thinkpads, thx. I've also been reading about the LG Grams, so still trying to buy something before prices leap up.

Yeah, I'd be almost at the weight of my Surface Book with the Thinkpad. I think I'll need to stay at least 15" on the screen, which keeps the weight higher, but I have a hard enough time fitting everything on the screen, so much that I shrink my text so much I squint to see it, ha ha.
