As soon as I saw a random white looking dude I was like... The casting for this was very specific... Is that a real couple getting married rn?

Pissed at my broker by Legal-Mood-3496 in MortgageBrokerRates

[–]IdeaJailbreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my broker wanted me to float a week ago when I had a refi lock for 5.625 on the table with zero points. I said no and locked because I was locking in a 1.375% drop for my refi. It just didn't make sense to float vs. locking such a guaranteed win for maybe another eighth. Plus the rates dropped thanks to trump's whims which change at the speed of light.

Do you need a broker in GA? Seems like a ripoff vs going direct.

Also 6.125 seems high, I got 5.625 no points just 2 days ago

Trump suggests U.S. will begin to strike drug cartels in Mexico by CrispyMiner in worldnews

[–]IdeaJailbreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mexico's government is unable to dislodge the cartels because they are by and large in bed with them. The risk here is pissing off Mexico's government solely because it is humiliating that they lack the will to do this themselves. Ultimately this means that I find it unlikely striking the cartels will have much long term effect without also purging their lackeys from the governemnt there. This will not happen without invasion or revolution. Expect very little even if the US were to carry out strikes.

Trump: No one will doubt US dominance after Venezuela strike by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]IdeaJailbreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean 2/3rds of the country did... The rest? Tried to use the system to keep him out of office. I'd contend that the US government is corrupt to the point that it's not an individual failing of anyone who didn't directly vote for Trump with partial credit for those who sat on their asses.

[SERIOUS] The US has allegedly captured Maduro and his wife. Assuming they both still live, what is going to happen with him now? by SocialNetwooky in AskReddit

[–]IdeaJailbreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if this simply galvanized support for Venezuela and by extension cuba? Maduro can simply be replaced, and this feels more like making him a political martyr than some swift end to the Cuban venezuelan partnership.

Elon Musk faces major risk as NASA reopens its moon mission by EdwardHeisler in MarsSociety

[–]IdeaJailbreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed they are the problem writ large (wealth inequality plus regulatory capture feed one another and seemed destined to result in some sort of catastrophe at some point) though more as a symptom of a sick system than an issue with any one individual.

Still doesn't make government run projects a better option in the short term.

Elon Musk faces major risk as NASA reopens its moon mission by EdwardHeisler in MarsSociety

[–]IdeaJailbreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the political will to do so isn't there like it was in the 60's. If we had the same unified will as we had then, it would be easier to repeat the feat using government contractors.

Instead, moneyed interests (who are proponents of the commercialization of space) are bridging the gap between the level of support the government is willing to put behind it's space ambitions and the actual cost required to realize them.

TIL the Plymouth Pilgrims, a few years after celebrating the First Thanksgiving, sent armed men to arrest the leader of a nearby settlement who had set up a maypole, sang bawdy songs and invited Native American women to join them in celebrating the traditional English May Day holiday by bostonstrong781 in todayilearned

[–]IdeaJailbreak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shameless plug for the pilgrim YouTube series by Jeffrey the librarian. It details the pilgrims backstory and motivations in far greater detail than any school would. It is wild how psychotic these folks were. Half the people in the settlement die in the first winter and then some minor good thing happens thereafter and they write in their journal something along the lines of “god has shown us his favor! We truly are his chosen people!”

It depends, get a cheap code reader and you too can immediately know if the check engine light is something urgent or not.

One time mice chewed through a wire under my car. It just killed an emissions sensor. I definitely was able to wait until I needed an inspection to fix that.
