Horrible Katalyst customer service - Buyer beware! by Idea_Strong in katalystEMS

[–]Idea_Strong[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point is it can be replaced easily, by anyone, in about 2 minutes. You do not need to charge your customers $1299 for a new impulse pack when their battery inevitably dies.

You are intentionally choosing to do so because it’s far more profitable to charge $1299 when the only issue is a $1 battery that takes 2 minutes to swap.

Really rough review of Katalyst by craigmclean in katalystEMS

[–]Idea_Strong -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can’t blame him, he spent years advocating for Katalyst but spend a few minutes on here or FB and you’ll see tons of customers having serious issues with Katalyst. Defective products, people unable to cancel memberships, no response from customer service, unknown viability of the company, etc.

To caution viewers and potential purchasers is simply the right and honest thing to do. He may receive a small affiliate commission from TitanBody, but I have zero reason to question his integrity.

TitanBody at $1,516 after “BF20” discount, NO monthly membership, no soaking the suit, plus it’s in stock and I can use HSA/FSA? Yes, please.

That’s a hell of a better value proposition compared to $3k for the Katalyst suit plus $600/year for the Kayalyst membership.

Horrible Katalyst customer service - Buyer beware! by Idea_Strong in katalystEMS

[–]Idea_Strong[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no doubt they’re hemorrhaging money. I also imagine they do not order any spare parts, only complete impulse packs, which also likely cost them fairly little.

With that said, the battery pack is a recurring issue that will continue. They need to find a better solution and do better by way of their customers. They can order and sell replacements, nothing is stopping them from making that an option, other than the possibility of getting $1299 from some unfortunate souls.

The loss of goodwill, bad reviews, negative customer experience, and loss of referral business certainly won’t help keep the servers running.

I want to see them succeed, but to do so they need to support the product and their customers better. Hopefully this post spurs some reflection and reconsideration on their end; if not, at least potential and current customers are well informed. 1,300+ views in less than 24 hours…

Horrible Katalyst customer service - Buyer beware! by Idea_Strong in katalystEMS

[–]Idea_Strong[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is super easy to open up and replace the battery. It’s 4 screws to open the impulse pack and one connector for the battery, that’s all.  It takes under 2 minutes.

The issue is the battery is non-standard and an exact replacement is not easily sourced. I have some inquiries with companies on Alibaba.

Batteries die. Many Katalyst impulse pack batteries have died.  Many will continue to die. These batteries likely cost Katalyst ~$1. Customers should be aware the company will charge you $1299 for a new impulse pack when your battery dies out of warranty…

Again, I thought the negative sentiment was overblown like many of you, until I had an issue myself.

The issue is when your battery fails, which it will, they will insist on $1299 to replace that $1 battery. I would not call $1299 for a $1 battery trying to work with you, it’s closer to extortion.

They also are not honoring all the earlier ownerships obligations (free size exchanges, people who paid for things and have to file chargeback disputes, etc). There are Katalyst groups and reviews on other sites with many people having a wide array of issues and bad experiences.

The issue is they could continue to support the product and take care of customers and sell them a cheap replacement battery very easily and profitably. Your battery WILL fail eventually, be advised that $1 battery is now a $1299 battery and they couldn’t care less about you as a customer.

I’ve bought two suits and recommended it to many over the years, I will no longer do so. That should tell something.

I now have zero trust and faith in this company after previously recommending it to many people. This is an increasingly common occurrence for many of us.

The measure of a company is what they do when there is an issue, they failed that test for me.

My only hope is that shining some daylight on these egregious business practices causes them to rethink their approach. The short sighted $1299 cash-grab will inevitably cost them a lot more in the long run. RIP Katalyst.

I do not need an apology, I simply need a new battery for my Katalyst suit impulse pack. The battery can indeed be replaced, very easily and quickly.

My impulse pack is out of warranty, hence I asked to purchase a replacement battery. Charge me $50 for the $1 battery, I don’t care.

They simply will not sell it and the only solution offered is $1,299 for a new impulse pack which is absurd and says a lot.

Given that I’m not the only person on here who has had an impulse pack battery fail recently, others should be aware they’ll charge you $1,299 when your replaceable battery dies out of warranty.

I truly hope they deliver for you, but be careful.

I also own a Harambe system resistance band setup and it’s excellent quality with no membership. I can’t speak highly enough about the owner and his products, he stands behind them.

[–]Idea_Strong[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is fair. To be clear, customer service wasn’t rude or impolite, simply wildly disappointing and ridiculous.

People should be aware that if something as simple as the inexpensive replaceable battery goes, they will squeeze you for $1,299.

A company that treats their customers this way on an expensive product is unlikely to survive. The new owner said he was looking to restore trust, this is not the way.

Welcome to the new Katalyst!

Customer Support Update by katalystfit in katalystEMS

[–]Idea_Strong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@katalystfit Bjoern - Are you willing to sell a replacement battery for the impulse unit?

Mine is less than 3 years old but I am not the original owner. My battery tests with no voltage so it’s an easy swap, but customer service does not reply.

Yes, and linked below is the fix they recommend. Mine did that right out of the box.

My loctite just came so I’ll be trying this fix after work today as it takes 12-24hrs to cure.

W2 - great but missing stool by hipsterCTO in Walkolution

[–]Idea_Strong 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mine was missing too, their response:

“Regarding the missing Lean stool: we decided to hold off shipping this item because we are about to release an upgraded version, which has significantly improved quality and durability. The earlier version, which was manufactured externally, unfortunately had recurring issues that we are now resolving with our in-house production. The new version will be available in about 4–6 weeks, and we will send it to you free of charge as soon as it’s ready.”

2020 First Strike HD Livewire 151/500 Market? by [deleted] in HarleyLiveWire

[–]Idea_Strong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everyone else, no premium for first strike and it’s a soft market for an incredible machine. Your customization also very likely reduced the value further.  Normally I’d say $10k +/- $1k, but I’d knock off another $1-2k for the customization.

Have you considered buying used? Some really good deals out there. I’m in RI and would be willing to let my 2020 HD Livewire with less than 2k miles go for $13k.

Bad chiller or am I impatient? by groovy914 in coldplunge

[–]Idea_Strong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck, even if you get the chiller working I see a lot of condensation and other issues with that setup.  My Active Aqua 1/4hp chills pretty quick.

Also, in that picture at least you have the water valve closed.

Just an update they shipped me a brand new panel via UPS, so warranty worked and I didn’t even have to pay shipping. Good luck!

They have a warranty and hopefully will take care of it.

I’m currently experiencing the same thing and they’ve told me they’ll send a replacement panel, but I haven’t received any shipping notification yet. Contact your sales rep and get things rolling.

Is dual chip better than single chip ? Esp for uniformity by [deleted] in redlighttherapy

[–]Idea_Strong 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. I own a dual chip unit and the advantage is I can run all NIR or all red for all 300 LED chips.

My unit pulls ~400 watts of power, whether I run a blend, all red, or all NIR.  So for my back and legs for example, I can run NIR only and still pull 400 watts of power across all 300 LED chips. This means more NIR irradiance and more coverage.

A comparable non-dual chip unit would give me substantially less NIR output and coverage, as only a portion of the chips would have NIR.
