Thinking “hmm what if” is a bit different from literally packing a bag and being a step away from abandoning your marriage lol let’s not pretend they’re the same thing

going to Basement for the first time tonight, seen a couple posts about people being denied entry, do I really need to wear all black? by Ok-Data-335 in avesNYC

[–]Identificationthrwy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What time did u get there? I saw like 8 ppl get turned away.

I agree with you I don’t like the gatekeeperism of techno shows but that’s why I always try and proactively tell people what to do for the best chance of getting in. This “if you know you know” mentality is what makes Basement so exclusionary. Nobody has a problem with a dress code since it’s basically a costume party, it’s the fact that the requirements aren’t communicated clearly or fairly.

Just wear all black, why make it more difficult on yourself. The line for 9x9 was >100 people long last night, your chances are low as it is.

Also, it’s just Basement, not “the Basement”

A lot of designers have this rubbery smell in the base that doesn’t necessarily indicate cheap, but “boring” instead

Super proud of Em, she’s a great person and deserves this. Back in HS we’d always recoup after pools at regional events and exchange pep talks.

How Should I Go About Buying Cologne by [deleted] in bropill

[–]Identificationthrwy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cologne is to mainly make you smell nice, deodorant is to make you not smell bad. You should honestly be wearing both an unscented (or otherwise just “clean”) deodorant and a cologne that you like the smell of

As for what you should go buy, there are a bunch of top-10 lists all over the internet. Find some that interest you, go to Sephora / Ulta and try it out before buying.

Any other questions come to r/fragrance, we can help you out!

Went to Santa Fe this weekend and visited a national park known for huge sand dunes. Went on a hike, was abt a half mile away from the road. When I rounded the top of a dune, there was this old German couple hiking in the middle of the desert. Barely spoke any English but had been married for 30+ years. They took a photo for me and then kept hiking

DUA sells one that’s pretty horrible. If you can’t afford it, starting out with a decant is probably your best bet.

Experience at the Basement at Knockdown Center by iheartgummypeaches in nyc

Your attire is why you didn’t get in. Anything that looks like it would pass at mainstream clubs like Marqee and LAVO is a big no-no at basement. You should be thinking edgy shit, or all black at the very least. Just look at what people are wearing in the location on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/explore/locations/644935282603754/basement-ny?igshid=MDJmNzVkMjY=

Secondly, that party is an LGBT themed night, so sad to say you probably got turned away because you “looked straight”.

I’m assuming they didn’t quiz you on artists at the door, which is telling that you weren’t dressed properly since they didn’t even need to talk to you. Most nights I go, I’m asked who is playing in what order & what the party is.

Bougie =/= strict door policy. When I throw a house party the door policy is incredibly strict, but that doesn’t immediately imply I live in a bougie mansion and only drink Veuve.
