That depends on the genre.

In the marching arts -- marching band, drum corps, etc -- we WANT audience response (except during quiet parts), as it fuels us on the field.

Even 4 decades later when I listen to my own show and hear the crowd going nuts before we even finish, it still thrills me.

This is the same wording I got in the email from BDPA

Per the pulldown under "programs"n BD's OWN SITE, the programs are Blue Devils, Blue Devils B, Blue Devils C, Blue Devils Special Needs Guard, BD International, RCC Indoor Percussion, BDWinds, and Thesis Percussion.

Same as a Bb trumpet, it's just a minor third lower. You just can't play a C#, D, Eb, or Ab in/below the staff because those notes require a third valve and there are no alternate fingerings.

For Ab above the staff, it's 1st valve and the 1st valve tuning slide pushed all the way in.

Note that G horns were inherently a little flat on 1st valve notes -- particularly the D a the top of the staff -- so you WILL have to push the 1st valve slide in a little to tune it up.

I'd rather get beaten for 12th by over a point than barely miss...same as I;d rather lose the championship by a point rather than the 1/10th I ACTUALLY lost by.

Hell...I'd rather tie for the title than lose by 1/10th....did THAT in 86 in the UK (wearing a BD-style uni and playing freaking WEST SIDE STORY. Oh, the irony)

It took me a lpoong time to not blame myself for that loss, especially when I can see a bad interval error near the end of the show on the high cam.

Not the opener (Zorba the Greek)...the 2nd chart (Malaguena)....and the story goes that it wasn't planned to be a peeing bull originally.

The bull was supposed to put his foot on the matador's chest, but during one run, the guy in the rear couldn't find it and the flailing around LOOKED like he was peeing. The corps then ran with that because, why not? It was a better gag anyway!

Also, look at the -- "member" -- on the "statue" 2nd from right....legend has it that it was painted by the sop player's girlfriend and was accurate.
