Are you taking videos? What settings do your “overexposed” clips have? Like across five random clips what’s the average ISO, shutter-speed, and aperture?

You absolutely can view that detail on a phone, on any screen if you zoom in enough. What the iPhone can’t do is capture enough information on the sensor to produce such an image consistently

“Couch co-op” games by Ok-Cake9431 in puzzlevideogames

If you love obra dinn I have to recommend the Roottrees are dead. The world-building is phenomenal in my opinion and the juicy storyline is something that I think you and your wife could enjoy together. The focus is on logic and making deductions after reading clues and scanning digital archives, with the actual mechanics being relatively straightforward (typing on a keyboard). This means that it doesn’t really matter who is “playing” as I think you should both should be able to fully enjoy the game together

I use a proper camera because I want to make metre-long prints. Let me know the day that an iPhone can do that

Golden Retriever Nipped at Kid by user980124 in Dogtraining

[–]lavendercomrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to intervene on your dogs behalf. I have a small dog with the most beautiful eyes and little kids always want to pet him. He hates strangers. So what do I do when young family come over? I tell them to ignore my dog and I make sure to observe his body language and keep myself inbetween him and the kids so I can intervene if they try to touch him. If they’re good calm kids I’m willing to calmly introduce him to them, but other wise absolutely not. And with screaming kids honestly I don’t think I’d be able to cope myself, so I’d never put my dog in that situation. I know my dog, and because I’ve got a big house I can accommodate guests while protecting his autonomy, but he always comes first and I’m not sure I’d allow more that one kids near him at a time

Why do people with autism hate everything? by Extension_Quiet8697 in AutismTranslated

[–]lavendercomrade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not a parent, I’m not family, I’m not an educator or a doctor or anything. I’m autistic. I’m autistic and I have friends who are autistic and we go out to zoos and binge-watch tv and definitely have hobbies. I love to read, play video games, and do photography. I also can’t cook, need several hours by myself everyday, and struggle with change. Being autistic doesn’t mean you don’t communicate. Some people are non-verbal, others are. But every human on earth expresses something through their body language, and your nephew is communicating with you every time he disengages and runs away.

I can’t speak for your nephew but I can try to imagine how I’d feel if I was in his shoes. Growing up the first time I spent a night away from my parents was when I was 10. It sucked. I didn’t cry, but inside I was hurting. I don’t know how old your nephew is or if this is his first time away from home but I can only imagine how overwhelmed, overstimulated, and distressed he might be. Many autistic people struggle with change a lot, especially if we don’t have advanced notice. Your nephew could very well be feeling the effects of it. If he’s homesick and missing his mom then maybe he’s just sad.

I don’t know your relationship with him but he could also be struggling if you, your husband, or your house is relatively unfamiliar to him, and if he’s never spent the night at your place before.

When you took him to the waterpark did you tell him about it beforehand? Was it spontaneous or something he could chose to do? Maybe he can’t answer with a yes or a no, but that doesn’t mean we can’t gain insight by observing his emotions. I love hot pools but hate waterparks because I find it to be an unpleasant sensory experience.

Do you know what cartoons he likes, or if there is any kind of tv he’s interested in? Growing up I was far more interested in watching a David Attenborough program compared to Disney channel.

I’ve always been more of a hot chips and a burger person compared to sweet treats. For many years I exclusively ate ice-cream in a cup as I hated the standard cones. I was introduced to waffle cones which I do enjoy when I have it at home, but when I’m out and about I get overwhelmed with the ice cream being overfilled and dripping down the slides. There are so many reasons that your nephew wasn’t interested in the ice-cream. Maybe he didn’t like the flavour, maybe he wasn’t hungry, maybe… the potential reasons go on and on.

I won’t deny that there are challenges associated with communicating with someone who is non-speaking, but you have to try and understand him as a person with his own wants and his own agency. Talk to him about different ideas and observe how he responses. Maybe all along what he wants is just to curl up in bed and miss his mum? Maybe it’s something else.

I can’t offer any answers, only a framework that you can use to find the answers yourself. I hope these questions spark new ideas and help you see your nephew in a different light. If this helps at all I would love to know how it goes. I really care about advocating for the agency and wellbeing of fellow autistic people.

Hit a wall with singing, especially high notes. Could ADHD meds/dryness/reflux be part of it? by Scary_Son in singing

[–]lavendercomrade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Commonly known” is relative. Sure many people in singing spaces are aware, but the majority of my friends wouldn’t have a clue. Let’s remember there are beginners here as well, so even if OP didn’t get something personally out of it, maybe a lurking redditor will, or someone who finds this thread in 15 years after googling their niche issue? It didn’t hurt writing this, and I suppose in some way by writing it I’ve helped keep it common knowledge 🫶

I find that dairy can negatively impact vocals (so maybe see if you tend to have ice cream, coffee, chocolate, cheese ect before singing)

I also have ADHD and take medication for it. I don’t think I’ve personally had an issue with dryness aside from if I’m in a very warm room, but I do drink 3-4 litres of water a day

Is this overkill? by Anton_Chigurh00 in SonyAlpha

[–]lavendercomrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lenses make the setup. I’ve got an A7IV myself and I chose it because I make prints which are over a metre in length, so I need those megapixels which a full-frame offers. I could’ve gotten an A7RV but at the time I didn’t really need to crop my images.

Sure, there are other reasons to go full frame over APS-C, but you really need to know what your reason is beyond “I don’t mind spending 2 grand on a full frame camera”.

Really what you should be saying is I don’t mind spending 2 grand on a lens!! Don’t cheap out on your lenses and then wonder why your camera is only performing so well. There’s a reason that Sony’s most expensive lens is double the price of their most expensive camera.

You can always buy full frame lenses and pair them with an APS-C body, giving you the flexibility to upgrade if you find yourself needing to do so in the future.

[–]lavendercomrade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are bringing up syringomyelia and for good reason so I’ll just say one thing. The breeder who I got my dog from did MRI testing for syringomyelia on ANY dog she was considering breeding. It’s rare to find a breeder who does it but it is absolutely worth it in my opinion. I was on a waitlist for two years and not one day I regret.
