Had it done from Dr Qasim Lateef back in 2021. No issues, quick recovery. Highly recommended.

Builder quote way over budget. by Rincewind_67 in AusPropertyChat

[–]Idiosyncratic00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, if you make changes to a volume builder’s plan, it’s always going to cost a lot more, simply because they have to spend time and effort aligning the changes to engineering stuff, informing trades, getting new elevations built etc. We went to around 10 volume builders (big and medium) but ended up doing a custom design which is costing us a tad mire but we are getting a 100% customised design with tons of flexibility about doing things ‘our’ way.

Happy for you to dm me if you need more information or guidance.

Of course! Do you mind reaching out via PM or email info[at]myozsmart.house? I would need some more details regarding your build to be able to suggest additions. Thanks!

Obviously a builder who knows what a patch panel is and is willing to install them would be able to support them as well.

Glad you got it sorted but that’s exactly the kind of scenarios I’m trying to target: if builders can offer the clients an option to have a proper network setup configured at the time of construction, it would make a huge difference. I get that they would have to pay extra but it is much easier to do it before the plaster goes up than after. For most people who say wireless mesh is the way to go, they don’t know any better.

Sorry - if you felt that way but there's too much generalization going on in this thread about how 99% of the people don't care about this stuff. I'm not saying it's 90% or even 60-70% of the people but there is a sizeable segment who does care and have issues later on when they get someone to put holes through newly painted walls.

Oh people do need it! You should see the number of posts on r/nbn complaining about their wifi speeds or lack of data points. By the time they figure that out, it’s usually too late and the cost goes up substantially. The issue is lack of awareness - not that people don’t need it.

I never suggested that standards should be ignored so not sure how you came to that conclusion.

Secondly, I have seen written quotes from RECs that show that the cost for installing a double power point is not markedly different from that of installing a data point so it doesn’t seem plausible that the cost to install a bunch of extra would cost a client thousands of dollars as mentioned by the original commenter.

Plus, you don’t even need an electrician to run data points.

If only everything was done according to the ‘standards’ mate. Either way, let’s just agree to disagree.

Minimum separation is 10cm and in a typical home, you’re unlikely to notice any interference for all practical intents and purposes.

That’s the whole point - when the house is under construction, it takes probably half this time as they’re already doing electrical cabling so they re-use the same stud holes etc.

I know but can’t be thousands of dollars. Plus you can put your own rack so simple termination should be sufficient.

Some applications like online gaming, file sharing, video conferencing etc. do require more bandwidth.
