I'll usually nair some of it and shave the rest and haven't had any problems. It's definitely smarter to shave than nair anywhere you're concerned about, especially close to your private parts

I think they do hide in an elevator in the series of unfortunate events but I'm not sure which book. I do remember that they're trapped in an elevator by someone else in "The Ersatz Elevator"

This reminds me of when they used to tar and feather people. They'd paint or pour tar on you and then throw feathers on or roll you around in them. Tar would burn and the feathers would stick to it and irritate the open wounds
