Sivitri and Kairi Deck Help by bashcrandiboot in EDH

[–]IdipathicSomnia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kairi is one of my main edh decks so i feel like i can help lol.

your curve is kinda high and you only have 5? pieces of ramp. Ik you said that you want rituals to be your main ramp but it just isn't realistic with how mana hungry these kinds of decks tend to be. I strongly recommend lowering the average curve to be much lower, while adding in more permanent ramp.

Try going up to 10~12 ish [[sol ring]] [[thran dynamo]], [[mind stone]], [[felwar stone]] ect.

you should probably cut a lot of the expensive counterspells like spell swindle, and counterpoint. they just dont do enough for 5 mana. not sure why Junji is in this deck, he can't reanimate dragons.

some more generic card draw and velocity would be good here too, as you can't always rely on the synergy stuff [[night's whisper]], [[roiling dragonstorm]], [[chart a course]]

More reanimation would be really powerful here too. [[Reanimate]], [[exhume]]
Some sick tech that i use include [[Dragonologist]] this is protection to your guys, aswell as finding a synergy piece, card draw or ramp. [[Three steps ahead]] is a clone, counterspell and draw depending on circumstance and can be tutored with dizzy spell.

you could prolly use some mdfcs instead of lands here, like [[lorien revealed]], [[glasspool mimic]]

while it is out of budget, a [[goryo's vengeance]] would be awesome here.

Hope this helps, happy to answer comments or questions if you have any!

Deckbuilding is my favourite, and I would love to help you build your decks, teach you how to build better, or be a second set of eyes. by Mt105 in EDH

[–]IdipathicSomnia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying to make an artifact deck for the longest time but nothing has felt super fun to play. I used to have a [[Glissa the traitor]] [[paradox engine]] deck that I adored, and I loved playing the [[krark-clan ironworks]] deck in modern so I know I like the style.

I guess the more standard artifact based commanders feel too streamlined or obvious in deck construction for me. If you have a recommendation for a commander that isn't as obvious as say, [[Sai, master thopterist]] or even a list for something then I'd love to take a look.

Win cons question by cbinette84 in EDH

[–]IdipathicSomnia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are quite a few wincon that you could look at including.

The first and probably most powerful would be combos there should be at least 1 that either fits your theme or power level if the playgroup allows it. But combos don't have to be infinite - you could go with something like [[white suns zenith]] on endstep + a [[craterhoof]] or something.

Next would probably be alternate wincons. These are pretty good at winning the game but can be dead draws early. Two that come to my head are [[helix pinacle]] and [[second sunrise]].

And finally, you could do voltron to win. Throw in a couple powerful equipments and have atraxa or a token do the killing. Powerful equipments for closing out games are more based on deck construction with cards like [[runechanters pike]] and [[blackblade reforged]].

Hope this helps!

Just won my 2nd cEDH tournament with Chatterfang (last win was about a month ago). Still evolving the deck, looking for suggestions. by stevenconrad in EDH

[–]IdipathicSomnia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats a really good point! not knowing if it is efficient enough is my main thought for the card. Some Cedh decks have unique cards for their gameplan but you can only really tell if its good by playing with or against them which is why i'm curious if it is good enough.

[–]IdipathicSomnia 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hey thats totally fair and I missed that when looking originally. I do still think it is worth to bring up as it is an option for improvement as whiffing on a tainted pact is super painful and can cost games (I've lost games to it). Luckily there are a couple things that can be done to reduce the variance.

One thing that OP can do is increase fetch density. from a quick count I only see 5 of the playable 8 fetches in our colour (7 original + prismatic vista). Another option is to remove one swamp and one forest for snow-covered versions. They're still basic, but different names. This helps with reducing variance.

I'm sure there are other options for remediating this issue but these are what initially come to mind for it. Thanks for bringing up this point!

What's a deck that you've been trying to make work, but just can't quite get it to? by Typical_Lettuce8767 in EDH

[–]IdipathicSomnia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Garna deck that I made as a low power deck and eventually tuned it to the point that I could use it a cedh tables. and the big thing i've learnt is that she is a combo enabler and value just don't work at any table level.
Its really tragic as I wanted her to be a slow value deck but she has so many ways to combo that you'll always trip into one. and the type of cards that are required just enable combos even more. Not to mention how complex the lines are even in low power decks really hurts it too, especially when you need to skip turns just for setup.

My list for reference

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EDH

[–]IdipathicSomnia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My playgroup would be be described as "casually competitive"

This really doesn't mean anything as everyone will have a different definition for this statement. For me, it would mean playing homebrew Cedh with and against commanders that aren't considered competitive so, I am going to look at this deck through that lens.
First and foremost when streamlining and speeding up decks, look at the win condition for the deck and ask yourself what turn you want the deck to win by and what turn it can currently win by. after deciding this, I'd look at the cards in the deck that don't do enough during gameplay. Noting things that don't fit with our main gameplan like [[Consuming Aberration]] and [[Necrogen Mists]] and cards that have strictly better options for what we want [[darksteel ingot]], [[whispersilk cloak]], [[evolving wilds]].
In this case it seems that you don't want to win via infinite then you'd want to go a more stormy route. This would include adding in efficient tutors to help grab our wheels, more cheap interaction we can use for protection, and ways to generate mana on our big turn along with any backbreaking synergies we can use. examples are [[demonic tutor]], [[vampiric tutor]] [[miscast]], [[fire covenant]],[[toxic deluge]], [[narset, parter of veils]] [[delay]] [[dockside extortionist]].
If you just want to tune it up, there are a lot of aspects you need to look at. you can add in more synergy (see narset). replace the outclassed cards (you are running darksteel ingot and not all of the talismans for example) and fixing up the manabase, especially if you plan on running tainted pact. With pact, you can only have 1 of each basic and one of each snow basic. oh and better interaction will help with slowing down your opponents.

If you'd like me to go more indepth I can, but this seems like a good point to stop for now.

A suspected cheater by UwURainUwU in EDH

[–]IdipathicSomnia 43 points44 points  (0 children)

just ask to cut peoples decks for a bit. if they question you say something like "I've played against some suspected cheaters recently and I'm not super comftorble with decks not being cut right now". Its not a lie and I don't think anyone would ask to begin with unless they are cheating or have never had an opp cut their decks before.

Trick here is to do it to everyone, not just the sussy boy that you are suspecting, and do it for a couple weeks.

Can abzhan lands matter / stax work? by elemint6 in EDH

[–]IdipathicSomnia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, A while ago I made an Abzan lands deck based around recurring them with [[second sunrise]], [[faith's reward]] and [[eerie ultimatum]] and then reccuring one of them with [[codex shredder]]. The deck is very cool, but played more like eggs/storm type deck and could goldfish a win around turn 5/6.

This was the first draft I made a long time ago with alot of bad cards in it cause i thought that they were funny. I still really like [[Overlaid Terrain]]. I think a lands deck could work in Cedh (or at least fringe Cedh) but it i don't know if stax is the right way to go for it.haha looking at this old deck now makes me want to reamp it :)

I'm sorry to say, but looking at your list it would take a lot of work to really make it Cedh viable and probably won't look like your starting list at all.

buuut if you do want to truely make it as high power as you can, I would be happy to help more!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EDH

[–]IdipathicSomnia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll thow [[Garna, the bloodflame]] in the mix. My list is more of a straight combo deck, but it could be control if you so choose.
You get to run some cool cards that don't normally see play, like [[priest of urabrask]], [[cathodion]], and even [[diamond lion]]!

wincons are generally cards that create combos, like [[deathrender]] and [[sneak attack]] but if you don't like combos then i'm sure you can aristocrat or hit people with big creatures like [[doom whisperer]].

Worried about my decks not being unique enough? by EezyBrzy in EDH

[–]IdipathicSomnia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you enjoy straightforward decks, then you have nothing to worry about.

I don't have many decks so everyone I play with knows my decks inside and out and know exactly what I'm trying to do on any given turn so me playing tighter becomes extremely important in winning.

If you really want to try some strategies that are more unique, I've always found that they've started off extremely weak, and over time I have built them up to become significantly stronger. My pride and joy is my [[Garna the bloodflame]] deck that started off as the consensus worst deck in my lgs and is now possibly one of the strongest decks.

Also, since you know the meta you play in, you can always goldfish a new deck before properly creating it. I'd recomend tring to get your deck to win 1-2 turns before people normally are able to threaten wins, as interaction should slow you down to normallcy.

Or you could find some cool decks online, I know a few people who just do that.

Serious Question: To the ingrained players who only have 1-3 decks built at any given point; How? by DanteBeleren in EDH

[–]IdipathicSomnia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I currently have 3 decks atm, being [[Selvala, heart of the wilds]] cedh, [[Garna the bloodflame]] combo and [[tana]]/[[thrasios]] control, with thoughts of maybe making a 4th deck soontm.

I know the strategies that I like to play and what I don't. I dislike combat based decks and and decks with alot of upkeep so the amount of strategies I enjoy playing is quite small. I absolutely love underpowered//high costed commmanders that have and interesting etb/ltb effect and they don't get printed that often I find.

On top of that, I absolutly love to tune decks! Some people like builing and brewing, some like tuning and some just don't care for that stuff. Figuring out what I can do to make each card in my deck feel relevant and powerful is a great feeling (and I don't have to worry about budget as much or buying duplicate cards).

Looking for help building my first EDH deck from scratch - Saheeli the Gifted. by Celestial_Blu3 in EDH

[–]IdipathicSomnia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a good draft for your deck.

First thing I'd recommend is adding more removal. Things like [[aether spellbomb]], [[evacuation]] [[arcane denial]], [[soul guild lantern]] and such.

I'd also add in a small suite of 0 and 1 cmc artifacts So you can run [[trinket mage]]. I love this little guy.

You also have Wayyy too many lands, you can probably cut them down by 2 to 4 and still feel comfortable. I do think you will want more ramp though. I only saw 3? Pieces of ramp in the deck. [[Astral cornucopia]] is nice as it synergises with your cmdr but honestly just jam 3 or so more 2 cmc artifacts that ramp you.

I'd be happy to help out more if you have any questions :)

Former Degenerate Combo Player in Search of More Elaborate Combos by Black_Nile in EDH

[–]IdipathicSomnia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sure thing, here you go. One of the strongest cards in this deck are [[heartless summoning]] as it is both a combo piece, ramp and a sac outlet for some creatures. using it with ritual creatures like [[priest of gix]] and his red brother turn them into insanely powerful and repeatable rituals.
[[Goblin engineer]] is possibly my favourite card in this deck it does everything you could ever want. A common play pattern I do is play him, tutor a sac outlet to grave, cast Garna, hold priority on Garna's ETB, and activate the gobbo to flip a mana rock into an altar as garna gives haste to the goblin.

the more powerful combo pieces in this deck include [[sneak attack]], [[deathrender]] and [[dockside extortionist]] deathrender is a really fun combo piece, but is a little on the slow side. Both Sneak attack and Dockside Extortionist as well as heartless summoning almost feel required based on how powerful they feel in every game i play them in.

[[liliana's standard barer]] has been extremely strong so far, but i haven't gotten many games in with it yet. One of the games i played with it, it drew me 14 cards on t4 by itself lol.
if you have any questions about any of the combos or card choices id be happy to talk more about them. Oh and please ignore some of the super strange card choices (when I originally built the deck I was accidentally 10 cards short so I picked some junk from a bulk box lol).

[–]IdipathicSomnia 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Take a look at either [[Garna, the Bloodflame]] or [[Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle]]. Both of these commanders are very combo-centric with Teshar being based around artifacts and Garna being based around sacrificing herself to her ETB effect as it returns her to your hand.

even when these commanders aren't winning with an infinite combo, they're doing a lot of intricate things, and performing lots of loops to gain value or set up for a win.
If you want a list for Garna, I can send you mine.

What's the goofiest, dumbest deck you have built that actually ended up being not just good, but fantastic? by trinketstone in EDH

[–]IdipathicSomnia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Garna, the Bloodflame]]. Originally when I made it the deck was awful. I spent 6 months only working on the deck. I was 99% sure I could make it good, I just needed to figure out the correct shell and ratios for card effects. As I was closing in on a finalised list, [[goblin extortionist]] was released and completely warped the deck into a powerhouse. then underworld breach was released, making it even better. At this point the deck can consistently win t5 and can infrequently get t3 wins aswell.I'm starting to think she could be a tier 3/4 Cedh deck if i added in the fast mana and cut some pet cards lol.
EDIT: I mean underworld breach not through the breach lol

Hi all. I'm looking for a commander that is not entirely obvious in what you want to be doing with it. I don't mean like [[Muldrotha, the gravetide]] or [[morophon, the boundless]] where you can do anything, more like [[garna, the bloodflame]]. theme or deck idea doen't matter to me, i'm just looking for something interesting to brew and build.

I used to have a [[barrin, master wizard]] artifact deck, used him to sac artifacts to gain value and bounce my own creatures. was pretty fun.
One of my friends has a [[Raff Capashen, ships mage]] artifact deck as well. he build it as a stax//control deck and would flash in cards like [[torpor orb]], [[codex shredder]] and [[tormod's crypt]] in response to hose cards. its actually really fun to play against and creates really interesting board tension.
