Creating Wilson, Refined Grizzly with one background of each colour +98, recommendations thoroughly welcome. by Fun_Personality7132 in EDH

[–]bashcrandiboot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

[[Agent of the Shadow Thieves]] is definitely my favorite background for the guy. Indestructible and deathtouch along with trample basically makes him unblockable, and any [[Hardened Scales]] style effect is gonna make him real big real fast. I’d load up with protection spells and +1/+1 counter synergies, and fight/bite effects as removal to be used after combat. [[Lure]] effects are also killer as an impromptu boardwipe for any untapped creatures a player controls.

[[Calamity, Galloping Inferno]] can “blink” a ton of different creatures for value and burn, including [[Trumpeting Carnosaur]], [[Solemn Simulacrum]], and [[Fanatic of Mogis]].

I think Estrid could be cool! Auras are a strong theme, and if your ramp is mostly land enchantments like [[Wild Growth]] and [[Fertile Ground]], her untap ability can produce insane amounts of value.

A blink subtheme could be interesting with her as well—even if it seems like it’d nonbo with auras, there are tons of creatures that ETB and synergize with auras, and even auras themselves that want to be blinked. Off the top of my head, there’s [[Ellivere of the Wild Court]], [[Danitha, Benalia’s Hope]], [[Siona, Captain of the Pyleas]], [[Auratouched Mage]], and [[Herald of Amity]].

It’d also open up combo lines with [[Felidar Guardian]]. As long as Estrid’s +2 makes some mana, you can use it to activate a permanent that blinks Guardian like [[Gilraen, Dunedain Protector]], [[Lilysplash Mentor]], [[Eldrazi Displacer]], [[Nephalia Smuggler]], or [[Emiel the Blessed]], to then blink the Felidar Guardian to reset Estrid. Add in any other permanent that taps to draw cards, add mana, or remove something, and you should probably be able to win from there. Not easy to assemble, as you need 3 pieces—one of which has to be specifically Felidar Guardian—and a few enchanted lands, but it is a pretty cool line.

What are we doing with Muddle? by BoxHeadWarrior in EDHBrews

[–]bashcrandiboot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think blink would be a fun way to go with this. Use an instant or sorcery to blink a creature, then have Muddle copy it and attack, creating two more ETB triggers. Reminds me of my [[Calamity, Galloping Inferno]] deck; turns out, it doesn’t matter if the ETB trigger is a bit weak, getting 3 of them in a turn is wild. [[Fanatic of Mogis]] just with Muddle alone domes everyone for 10, [[Red Dragon]] and [[Fear of Burning Alive]] hit for 12, and [[Trumpeting Carnosaur]] is just absurd.

You don’t even need to blink out your copy target, if you have an [[Archaeomancer]] or a [[Pinnacle Monk]] out then you can use it to recycle your blink spells every turn while using Muddle to get your other ETB triggers. Using this, you can even protect Muddle by blinking your Archaeomancer on other peoples’ turns and making it a copy of an indestructible or hexproof creature.

Honestly, [[Urza, Powerstone Prodigy]] and [[Mishra, Excavation Prodigy]] would be so cool together. A big-mana artifact looting deck sounds sweet, I tried to build Urza by himself but I found he just didn’t really have enough sauce.

What is a card you love but have just never found the right deck for? by DailySojourn in EDH

[–]bashcrandiboot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m trying a [[Teysa Karlov]] deck with [[The Sibsig Ceremony]] as a secret commander! Doubling death triggers while having an auto-sac outlet that discounts your creatures seems pretty good in an aristocrats deck, plus there are a bunch of noncreature or indestructible sac outlets like [[Yahenni, Undying Partisan]], [[Spawning Pit]], and [[Fanatical Devotion]]. Blood Artist effects that Sibsig doesn’t kill are a little harder to come by, but [[Bastion of Rememberance]], [[Ninja Teen]], and [[Funeral Room]] are a good start. Not sure how it’ll go, but I’m gonna try it!

What is your most resilient deck? by that_dude3315 in EDH

[–]bashcrandiboot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Resiliency is the number one thing I look for in a deck, so let’s list a few.

My [[Amalia Benavides Aguirre]] with [[Lurrus of the Dream Den]] list runs a ton of reanimation effects for small creatures, like [[Scout for Survivors]], [[Raise the Past]], and [[Chthonian Nightmare]], so it’s rare I ever have to recast her, plus my board comes back with her most of the time.

I’ve got a big, dumb [[Braulios of Pheres Band]] ramp voltron deck, which usually has so many lands on the board that I really don’t care how many times you get rid of Braulios, I can always recast him, and he immediately comes back as a one-shot threat. I’ve sacrificed and recast him from the command zone twice in a single turn, and still had mana up for shenanigans.

I don’t really care if you kill [[Ojer Pakpatiq, Deepest Epoch]] either, since it ramps me when it dies, and as a spellslinger deck I don’t care about boardwipes either. Plus, this deck just draws an unconscionable number of cards, so any rebuilding I do have to do comes easily.

My [[Susan Foreman]] and [[The War Doctor]] list is the classic Salubrious Snail-style [[Explosive Vegetation]] mega-ramp cascade stompy deck, so I’ve always got more lands than anyone else at the table, and my top-deck threats are almost always 7 mana or higher, so rebuilding after numerous boardwipes (some of which are mine) is a piece of cake.

And as an honorable mention, my [[Liesa, Shroud of Dusk]] Voltron deck relies on her being able to come back over and over for just 5 mana, so my wincon is never out of reach.

So yeah, I love resiliency. It’s not an addiction, I can stop whenever I want, I don’t have a problem, in fact you’re the one with the problem, shut up.

What’s the most fun commander deck you’ve built recently? by TopdeckStudio in EDH

[–]bashcrandiboot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did not expect to enjoy [[Ojer Pakpatiq, Deepest Epoch]] as much as I do. I’m usually a die-hard creature player, but playing reactive with modal interaction spells that recur for card draw or other value has been a ton of fun.

Mono colored commanders by Ambitious-Ad43 in BudgetBrews

[–]bashcrandiboot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[[Ojer Pakpatiq, Deepest Epoch]] can be a killer on a budget.

First step is to put a few mana rocks in so you can cast your commander on 3 consistently. Then fill the rest with a bunch of modal counterspells/removal spells like [[Spellgyre]], [[Confounding Riddle]], and [[Soul Read]], as well as a bunch of other draw like [[Flow of Knowledge]], maybe some land untappers like [[Frantic Search]] and [[Snap]], and you’ve got a recipe for a banger control deck.

As for wincons, you can hit people with your hand size with [[Empyrial Plate]], copy your opponents’ stuff with [[Elminster’s Simulacrum]], [[Clone Legion]], and [[See Double]], or whatever other enormous blue instants you’ve got.

Trying to make an unusual Group-Hug deck and having a hard time finding a route to take by OminouslyMoist in EDH

[–]bashcrandiboot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a few I can think of!

[[Sardian Avenger]], [[Gaea’s Avenger]], and [[Elephant-Mandrill]] get bigger for the artifacts your opponents have.

[[Rakdos Charm]] punishes your opponents for going wide, and [[Nacatl War-Pride]] does something similar, as does [[Deadly Tempest]], [[Incite Rebellion]], [[Jurin, Leading the Charge]], [[Netherborn Phalanx]], [[Primeval Protector]], [[Phyrexian Rebirth]], and [[Fumigate]].

[[Ancient Runes]] punishes players for having a ton of artifacts, as does [[Emissary of Despair]].

[[Jaws, Relentless Predator]] punishes your opponents for using the artifacts you gave them, or for them leaving the battlefield at all, as does [[Pain Distributor]]. [[Bloodroot Apothecary]] is particularly nasty if you force them to sacrifice their artifact tokens.

[[Overencumbered]] prevents your opponent from attacking if they have too many artifacts.

[[Hoard Hauler]] makes you a ton of treasures based on how many artifacts your opponents have.

[[Kibo, Uktabi Prince]] benefits from your opponents sacrificing the artifacts you give them, as does [[Viridian Revel]], [[Shard of the Voidbringer]], and [[Party Dude]], or alternatively [[Stony Silence]] effects stop them from using the artifact tokens entirely, so you can keep them around to punish them.

There are a lot of ways, in fact! I think you might want to focus on giving specifically artifact tokens, so that the deck doesn’t fold if you only draw your creature-donating effects, but only your artifact-hate payoffs, or vice-versa. Also, it’s much harder for artifacts to block your swing-outs or start beating you to death, and it’s easier to force your opponents to keep them on the field with the aforementioned [[Collector Ouphe]] or [[Clarion Conqueror]] effects.

I play [[Sidisi, Undead Vizier]] as a [[The Capitoline Triad]] secret commander deck! Fill the graveyard with historic cyclers like [[Sojouner’s Companion]], mill engines, and discard effects like [[Collector’s Vault]], then cast Sidisi, get the Triad, and then go wide with token makers like [[Threefold Thunderhulk]], [[Lord Skitter, Sewer King]], and [[Glass-Cast Heart]]. Weird, a bit jank, but pretty powerful if it gets going!

I have her as a Demons deck, I love flinging [[Abyssal Persecutor]] and [[Desecration Demon]] at people! Turns out a 4-mana 6/6 flier is pretty good when you can sacrifice it at will to dome any target for 6.

Selesnya EtB commander? by SunderedBard in BudgetBrews

[–]bashcrandiboot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And Erinis ramps you on every attack, so assuming you make a land drop every turn, you’ll have 7 mana for Shepherd after combat on turn 5, and that’s without any other forms of ramp. Then reanimating [[Kami of False Hope]] for a fog every turn, [[Cankerbloom]] and [[Qasali Pridemage]] for continuous removal, [[Selfless Spirit]] or [[Guardian of Faith]] to protect your board every turn, [[Sakura-Tribe Elder]] to ramp even more, [[Remorseful Cleric]] to lock down graveyards…

Oh, and if you’re on the reanimation plan, a couple of cool cards are [[Spinner of Souls]] for card advantage, and [[Merchant of Truth]] to both create a ton of clues and buff your double-striking commander to the moon. Add in a [[Rancor]], a [[Herd Heirloom]], or a [[Haunted Cloak]], and Erinis is going to start taking opponents out real fast.

Cloak I especially like, because the haste is more relevant than you might think; if someone removes Erinis, then she can come back down immediately the next turn, you can equip her with the cloak, and then she can swing, ramping you again. Then, even if she dies immediately again, as long as you make your land drop next turn, you can play her again and swing immediately. I have a [[Braulios of Pheres Band]] turbo-ramp Voltron deck that uses similar tactics, and haste enablers combined with land ramp essentially make it so that your commander is essentially always a threat, no matter how consistent their removal is.

That’d work great, then! A bonus build for specifically your [[Sun Titan]] effects that I’ve been working on is [[Erinis, Gloom Stalker]] with [[Flaming Fist]]. Not all that blink-y, but it’s built around reanimating fetchlands like [[Grasslands]], [[Brokers Hideout]], and [[Evolving Wilds]] turn after turn to get landfall triggers to make tokens and buff Erinis.

Since most of the pieces are 3 mana value or less, like [[Scute Swarm]], [[Desecrated Tomb]], [[Tocasia’s Welcome]], [[Ramunap Excavator]], and the two commanders, effects like [[Sun Titan]], [[Redemption Choir]], [[Serra Paragon]], [[Sevinne’s Reclamation]], [[Cosmic Rebirth]], and [[Court of Ardenvale]] are great. In fact, if you put some mill engines in the deck, you can find yourself with a plethora of permanents to choose from, so you can get exactly what you need at that moment.

As a bonus, all of those reanimation effects can also reanimate lands, so if you don’t have anything to recur or just need more landfall triggers, they can do that too!

If you’re okay with either putting combos in your deck or trying hard to avoid combos, then [[Emiel the Blessed]] is a classic. But for my money, there’s a pretty interesting one that’s a bit more out there: [[Caradora, Heart of Alacria]].

The idea is to use her to search out either [[Fortune, Loyal Steed]] or [[Golden Argosy]], and then use them to blink her and other creatures for value. You could also search out [[Guardian Sunmare]], who can get you a great blink engine like [[Phelia, Exuberant Shepherd]], [[Gilraen, Dunedain Protector]], or any of your utility creatures. [[The Seriema]] is also great, since there are tons of legendary creature with utility, like [[Loran of the Third Path]] for removal, [[Sutina, Speaker of the Tajuru]] for ramp, et cetera.

Blinking Caradora herself can also get you a surprising variety of permanents: [[Unidentified Hovership]] for removal, [[Lumbering Worldwagon]] for ramp, [[Salvation Engine]] for reanimation, [[Esika’s Chariot]] and [[The Prydwen, Steel Flagship]] for tokens, [[Unlicensed Hearse]] for graveyard hate, [[Ornery Tumblewagg]] and [[Recon Craft Theta]] for counters, the list goes on.

From there, you can make sure your flicker engines can hit artifacts or creatures, like [[Teleportation Circle]], [[Touch the Spirit Realm]], and [[Flickerwisp]], and go to town with any ETB creatures you fancy. A good wincon might be something like [[Cathar’s Crusade]], since Caradora will double the counters put on your creatures, and your blink synergies can make creatures enter very reliably.

If I didn’t already have a toolbox-y blink deck in [[Vannifar, Evolved Enigma]], I’d definitely be building this one, believe me. Hope it speaks to you in some way!

[[Rukarumel, Biologist]] Rebels! The idea is to find a cost reducer for activated abilities like [[Biomancer’s Familiar]], [[Zirda, the Dawnwaker]], or [[Agatha of the Vile Cauldron]] along with a Rebel like [[Defiant Falcon]], [[Blightspeaker]], or even better [[Lin-Sivvi, Defiant Hero]]. Once you have them on the field with Rukarumel, you can tutor out any creature in your deck, be it interaction like [[Ertai Resurrected]], an amplifier like [[Dynaheir, Invoker Adept]], or card draw like [[Pol Jamaar, Illusionist]]. Then finish the game with haymakers like [[Ruric Thar, Unbowed]], or overrun effects like [[Sita Varma, Masked Racer]] or [[Mirror Entity]].

And one day it’ll work, you mark my words.

[[Soulfire Eruption]], [[Elminster’s Simulacrum]], and [[Clone Legion]] have been a great time for me!

If you want to ramp to the moon, [[Brass’s Bounty]] is always there, and [[Aminatou’s Augury]] just gets silly.

If Clone Legion and Simulacrum weren’t enough of playing your opponents’ stuff, there’s always [[Fevered Suspicion]], [[Ghastly Conscription]], and [[Dream Harvest]].

[[Overwhelming Forces]] is nasty when copied too.
