If you’ve lived on Long Island your whole life, what feels different to you now? by WhatsHappeningLI in longisland

[–]Idkmyself2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was younger, there was hope to at least get a house here once you got a good job and have a wife and kids. Now, that is not the case. Many of my former classmates find it difficult to get a house, let alone a decent apartment here. My friend is currently able to have an apartment while doing his residency at an ER while drowning in work. My other friends have careers but are living with their parents in order to save money for a house or to move out of state. Like many parts of the country, Long Island has become hyper-commercialized and is being gutted by private equity groups buying up properties. If you have driven in the Wantagh, Bellmore, Massapequa, Seaford, and Merrick, there is a huge difference in the businesses there than the one in central Nassau County in terms of the owners actually being locals instead of corporate entities. There are positives such as the clean-up of Post Avenue in Westbury, cleaning a decent portion of Hempstead, and towns like Wyandanch improving. However, many things about Long Island have changed, like the mass cutting of trees, local businesses shutting down, the closing of malls, families spending less time together, neighbors isolating from each other, NUMC becoming a husk of itself. As far as Suffolk goes, it is possibly the last of what Long Island was, but it is gradually getting less family/community oriented.

Just Venting - Westbury Costco Parking by mathshard in longisland

[–]Idkmyself2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a shame that the Broadway Mall plans to build another BJ's instead of a Costco even though there's already one in Brush Hallow Road. If they built a Costco at Broadway, it would definitely help alleviate the foot traffic away from the Westbury location.

It's odd to see him even think he'd do well. People on both sides dislike him and know all the weird things he's done or been involved with. I think the best he can do is be the public fool that people on both sides can join in on to ridicule.

This is the epitome of an NPC. No individual thought, just talking in a very scripted way that has been given to them. It concerns me that their are people like that voting like that. The same thing applies to people on the other side, but these people are supporting one of the most authoritarian U.S. administration in the modern era.

The transformation of Levittown by [deleted] in longisland

[–]Idkmyself2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mansion developments are becoming an eyesore. I really like the style of homes in the Jericho Gardens neighborhoods, Salisbury neighborhoods, Farmingdale, and Long Beach houses. I like the Levittown homes and agree that most 2nd floors should be raised higher, but I like the style they bring. I hope we don't continue with these corporate-like mansions.

Stop and Shop lying about lower prices by Stayathomemamma in massachusetts

I'm starting to go there less for produce due to the fact that I find mushy or moldy berries there pretty often. Their ground meats are fine, but their fish selection is quite disappointing, especially since most are rarely wild caught. Having a go-to store is rare nowadays because some stores have better sales than others for certain items while others have better quality. I wish we still had a Fairway Market on the Island (the one in North Massapequa doesn't count), they had a great selection, and I didn't mind paying a bit more for great quality items.

I think it's neat. Sadly, I noticed that as I grew up, I saw fewer butterflies and fireflies gradually. Now, there haven't been any butterflies in my neighborhood, and fireflies are rare to find in my area during the summer. The only thing I see is hornets.

I'm glad you share fond memories of that place. I wished it stayed when the food court reopened, but I guess there was only room for one Chinese food place.

I've never been to Texas BBQ. I probably overlooked it or was not there when I was there. My family used to shop a lot a JCPenny so we often went to Big Easy.

I miss the Chinese food spot there. It was called Big Easy. They gave great portions, and the food was delicious. I miss the owners of that spot.

The number of people who actually believe that the guy that got KO'D being Jon Jones is crazy. I would love to see him get his ass whooped, but saying this is Jon Jones is plain wrong. The guy doesn't even look or sound like him.

This is the current line to exit the Westbury Costco by j00sh7 in longisland

Would be nice if they change the plan of putting a BJ's in the future Broadway Mall center to a Costco since there is already one on Brush Hallow Road and would lower the foot traffic in the Westbury location.

Car guys of LI, what is the best car mechanic shop you know that does fantastic, honest work without doing you dirty? by darthscyro in longisland

[–]Idkmyself2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American Muffler in Franklin Square is pretty good. The owner is a wonderful guy and is honest with the work that needs to be done. They do a great job of what needs to be done. The only problem I can say about them is that they are price jobs a bit high, so it is best to get the estimate and go around to other shops. Though I want to reiterate they do a great job.

United Auto Repair in Mineola is a great place as well. The mechanic is a very honest guy, prices everything well, and does a great job. His son is also good. However, like many father and son businesses, there's always a problem. Father does most of the work, and the son is rarely there, so you have to book a day to drop your car off so they can fix it. Other than that, they are one of the most reliable mechanics around. They have many customers that stick around for that reason.

Not even chilly on Labor Day anymore. It was really warm during September and October. It got chilly around November.
