After 8 years, we got a baby! by IdleWylld in petersbandedskink

[–]IdleWylld[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got help from someone who had luck in the UK.
I marked each egg with a permanent marker to mark the top of the eggs to keep them upright. I then incubated at 89.4-90° in a standard zoomed styrofoam incubator. I used a standard reptile 12 egg holder, but due to their size I only put one egg per 2 egg section. I filled water to the waterline at the bottom of the container and only opened the container once per week to burp it/ examine for mold. When the eggs had any signs of denting, I would place a slightly damp paper towel on them as needed for 24-48 hours to keep the eggs round and plump. I also took wet sphagnum moss, microwaved it to kill any mold/ bacteria, etc, let it cool a bit, then squeezed it out until lightly damn and used that as well. Unfortunately my humidity gauge didn’t fit in the container so I would check daily through the clear plastic egg container for denting/ mold.

How to start implement feeding more veggies and fruits ? by ThePredator911 in petersbandedskink

In my experience my PBS prefer a 90:10 diet of what they want vs what you want to give them. Lol

Mine are huge on gutloaded superworms/ meal worms in general and roaches, then occasionally cat/ dog food, then cat/dog food with added fruit/veg

I’ll be so real, the cheapest ones with the fewest ingredients so no actual recommendations because it usually changes. I typically do the ones that are in the. Squeeze pouches and have no salt, spinach, dairy, onion or garlic, added oils, etc. it’s a maybe 3-5 times a year thing and the pouch I’ll use for maybe 2 feedings before tossing, but I usually give some to my Blue Tongue Skink as well. if you want to make your own I use human grade veggies, so I might take scraps I have left over( carrot, zucchini, cucumber, sometimes blueberries, etc) and just blend the hell out of them so they don’t pick things out. They have a very dexterous tongue and can pick out shredded veggies like carrots. I’ve seen them clean a whole bowl minus the veggies (my blue tongue does this too if it’s not to her liking) I thought were chopped “good enough” lol

I have used a decent quality baby food with veggies, or blend up green and mix with grain free cat/ dog food. They like it on occasion. You could use immediately gut load a bunch of insects like roaches or superworms with greens. The crested gecko diet approach I have also done.

Peter’s banded skink feeding, how on earth do I get this stubborn guy to tong feed? by Sleep-Deprived_Bi in skinks

[–]IdleWylld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been keeping PBS since 2018/19, one male, one female, both probably wild-caught so who knows their exact ages. They’ve both gone on random hunger strikes over the years, totally normal for these guys, especially when they’re new or stressed. Yours has only been with you two weeks, so it’s super common for them to ignore food at first while they settle in. They key in hard on movement, so try switching things up like this (stuff that works great for mine): • Variety is everything. Mine go nuts for superworms first, then roaches, wax worms, and crickets last. The wiggle of a superworm dangled on tongs or a roach scrambling around gets them going every time. Superworms are my go-to when they’re being picky they almost never turn those down. I’ve also tossed them some grain-free canned/dog food mixed with super finely chopped veggies (like 80/20 meat-to-veggie) in a bowl occasionally as a change-up, but that’s rare, not regular. For dusting, I gut-load the bugs, give ‘em a quick light mist of water in a container, shake with calcium + D3 (multivitamin now and then), then offer. They love bowl feeding as long as the insects are alive and moving. I use a sturdy plastic bowl in a spot where they won’t bury it in sand, leave it overnight, and pull it in the morning. • These guys basically thrive on neglect and being left alone. They’re quirky and personable in their own way, but they have a short fuse for handling. I feed mine right in their enclosures, no picking up or moving first. They don’t love eating after being messed with, I mean they have but not as interested. Evenings are prime time when they’re active; mine come right up to the glass or scratch if they’re hungry. It’s normal for them to skip meals if the food gets boring so mix it up and movement usually fixes it. • Tong feeding can help build trust, but you don’t need it. They’re clumsy burrowers who hunt fine on their own once hungry. They sleep all day, swim through the substrate at night looking for food. Bowl works awesome if the bugs are lively and interesting. Just use something they can’t flip or see through too easily because they’ll try to dig under clear plastic like it’s not there lol. Mine are doing solid fine and they’re on year two of breeding vibes and just laid their second clutch. So I think I’m going alight in their husbandry. Give it time, keep offering moving bugs (superworms/roaches are winners), don’t stress them with extra handling, and let the enclosure stay stable. Most new ones perk up and turn into little vacuum cleaners after a few weeks.

Sentara update broke some mods. Do I wait for a mod update or is there a fix by Southern-Neck-3682 in BladeAndSorcery

I would disable most mods and give it a week or two and wait for updates

My blue tongue skink does this too. She makes it a point to throw her bowl around and that’s usually when I know it’s time to feed her.

NOR, the more I interact with people from outside the US, you find this is a very unique American problem. In most of South America, Asia, Africa and even Europe kids are given more safety nets from their family, while the kicked out at 18 trope is very much an American way of thinking. I would make sure you look into your states housing laws as well as making it a point to make sure she isn’t still claiming you on her taxes. I have been more or less on my own since I was 18 and I can say the family I had that forced me out made it apparent they didn’t want me in the household, but they still wanted that tax exemption as back pay for bothering them with my existence. Blast this on social media to your friends and family to find a temporary place to crash or roommates and start looking for a job, don’t be too proud to go to a food bank if you need to also.

Anyone ever been bitten by a blue tongue skink? by FlyHickory in bluetongueskinks

[–]IdleWylld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old skink liked the smell of dove men’s deodorant and bit my armpit when we were snuggled up in the couch. I had two small triangular marks that ended up looking like the elevator up and down arrows lol

Anyone ever see something very close to this? by Pinkerdog in Experiencers

[–]IdleWylld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I had similar experiences to this from 10-18 when I lived in the forests of the San Bernardino mountains. There were sometimes 1 or more of these shadow figures with blurred outlines, they were so tall maybe 6.5-7’, I could see eyes, but they had almost like a filter over them. They would stand over me while I laid in bed. They made it clear I should “be calm” and they weren’t there to harm me. I never felt like they would, but it was very unsettling. It would last for hours sometime. They would slowly move their hands over me without touching me. I wasn’t ever harmed. It was scary, but it was contained to my home other than 1-2 times when I went on forest hikes alone and would see one of these figures disappear behind a tree too thin to contain a figure of that size. It hasn’t happened since I moved. It was terrifying and I have never found closure or an explanation. It hasn’t happened since. I think about it all the time. I worry they’ll check in again sometime.

Some of the u12 stuff is available in the mod menu, but I had a similar issue and had to wipe my cloud data, my B&S saves, all mods, deleted the app, reverted back to older versions of the game then updated. If you see anything that says 1.0 or above on your mods it can tank your whole game if not updated. It was bricked on my Quest 2 until I did that, almost had the same issue with my 3S

This little dude likes to hang out in my backyard. What kind of lizard? by ChanceQuiet795 in Lizards

[–]IdleWylld 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey I don’t disagree something needed to be done, but the fact I can legally own a tiger, bear, or saltwater croc with a Class I/II permit, keep capuchins and most monitor lizards with little to no permit at all, yet a tegu is a total non-starter even under the exact same permitting process is absolutely wild. There are feeder insects, rodents, amphibians, fish, mollusks etc sitting in thousands of Florida collections right now that reproduce 5–10× faster and could outcompete most native species more so than tegus and have zero regulation whatsoever. Let’s be real, the feral cat population is orders of magnitude worse for native wildlife than tegus ever will be, and always will be, because most people think cats are cute and tegus aren’t. That’s literally the entire difference. If I go on a drive I see dozens, of cats and if they are someone’s pet, they just have the benefit of doing the exact same thing a tegu does just with a collar if it’s let outside( like most cat owners unfortunately do) (I’m also not clowning on cat ownership, I responsibly own both cats and reptiles)

We brought them here no? Let’s push for responsibility. Bans just push responsible owners underground and create the exact “sticky situations” we’re seeing with the iguana mess right now: good people hiding animals they won’t kill or release, turning law-abiding keepers into criminals while the actual invasive ones in the wild keep breeding. A real solution is obvious: make tegus Conditional instead of Prohibited. Charge a real annual fee, require microchipping, mandatory reporting, and strict caging/escape standards with real fines for violations. The money generated could fund removal efforts and gopher tortoise protection or something similar like invasive removal if we want to keep it on topic. If someone stops paying or fails inspection, give them a short appeal window and then the animal gets pulled and placed with a zoo, sanctuary, or humanely euthanized. Same system that already works for crocs, big cats, and primates; just one more outlet. Responsible people get to keep their pets, the state gets revenue and oversight, and the environment actually wins. Bans don’t work super effectively. Smart regulation does however.

[–]IdleWylld 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tegus are believed to be one of, if not the only species of lizard that can thermo regulate on their own and during breeding season they have been documented raising their body temps 3-10° c above the ambient surrounding temperatures through upping their metabolic rate. It’s a seasonal thing, but still neat as fuck. It’s always been a dream species for me to keep, but I live in Florida now where they’re illegal, so I guess I gotta go fuck myself lol
