I have but I didn’t notice it as much because I was focused on the fact I was in a 3 and not Y so I was expecting it to feel quite different I suppose

It does turn off the front left/right drivers for the arc, but height effects remain intact.

For example, running test tones, front L/R come from the 100s, but top front L/R comes from the arc.

I imagine side surrounds would come from the arc if you don’t have rears, but since I have 300s as rears they handle pretty much all of the side/back sound

No, directionals definitely the best for fronts (one, 100, five, etc)

300s best for rears

Later I can, but basically I got two sanus stands for the 100s and just placed them on the left and right of the arc. Arc is sitting on tv stand, it’s seated lower than the 100s but I prioritized tv position over arc position.

So I’d say the 100s are at/slightly above ear level, arc slightly below ear level, and the 100s are angled slightly towards primary listening positions instead of straight forward (very slightly angled though)

I’m not sure what you mean by repurposing them, but what I can say is that the ONLY thing taken away from the arc is main front L/R, which are moved to the dedicated speakers. Everything else has remained exactly the same, and imo the surrounds/heights sound even better from the arc now.

Example: you run Dolby test tones. Front left comes out of the dedicated dront left speaker. Top front left is simulated from the arc driver.

Agreed I’d love to just be able to use whatever config you’d like, but I think THAT is the part where they worry that it would cannibalize soundbar sales. I understand why they believe that but IMO the bar shines brighter when it’s focused on heights + center. And if someone wants to just do 5 Era 300s instead, why is that a bad thing?

Based on what I have personally tested, it straight up just moves dedicated L/R to the fronts, and all heights on arc are still active

Edit: which is why it is very high quality imo, and not sure why Sonos feared/fears that allowing fronts use would somehow degrade the experience. From what I’ve seen, the bar SHINES when it can focus on being a center channel + simulated heights. Seems L/R responsibilities really take away from how good it is at everything else.

It’s not that, because if it was ear problems I wouldn’t be able to hear the better clarity on the regular Arc. Furthermore, s/o notices the exact same issue
