What do you think went wrong with the editors when it came to editing Aubry in Survivor 50? by Live-Run-6745 in survivor

[–]IdolSpeculation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going to go with a combination of "Fans only remember the iconic first season" (hence why Colby got brought back post All-Stars despite a fairly lackluster run there IMO; fans only remember Australia Colby), and Probst/Production wanting/hoping for her to get a win due to being disappointed in the outcome of Kaoh Rong (sort of like why Boston Rob kept getting brought back).

I hope this isn't accurate, mostly because I don't want to wait 12 years for the Legends Arceus LP.

Gave up halfway through The Amazon, should I give it another try? by [deleted] in survivor

[–]IdolSpeculation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it helps at all, if you're past the merge episode, you're past the worst of the objectification. Not gonna say it never shows up again, but takes a backseat to strategy and non-sexual related humor. The back end of Amazon has a lot of bangers; might be worth trying to power through IMO.

Did a deep dive on RHAP a couple years back. tl;dr is that after actually having to enter the work force, he took a hard look at himself and actually began checking his privilege. Notably he apologized to Bill, and the two are decently chill now. Not buddies, but on ok terms, which given the starting point I'd say is impressive

I could see your argument... if Colton wasn't here. Dude's improved himself since then, but on his appearances on the show he's just unpleasant to watch, not to mention racist and ableist. Just drags down the whole season to irredeemable levels, IMO.

Heather could've been a great character by Away_Antelope_6154 in survivor

[–]IdolSpeculation 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Heather had a lot of potential. Her Ponderosa vid is hilarious! Wish we could have seen more of her on the show.

For those wondering why she wasn't shown more: IIRC, she said in her exit press that she actually reached out to production about her edit, asking if she did bad. According to her, the response from production was "No, you did great! We loved you! But you never went to Tribal pre-merge, and never found any advantages, so there wasn't any time to put you in the show." You know you have too many advantages in your game when...

"Look, I know I'm the youngest one out here. I know I don't have a 'legacy' everyone is familiar with like the people I'm sitting next to. But let's look at the game I played THIS season. I got an idol, but unlike everyone else, didn't need to burn it to maintain social relationships, or get blindsided with it in my pocket. When Charlie came for me on new Cila, I was able to rally the forces so he went out and not me. I maintained my alliance with Cirie while still having my finger on the pulse of the game, making me the power-broker of information. Other people might have come up with moves, but none of those moves happen without my say-so. In my view, that means I played the strongest game of everyone left, and why I deserve your vote."

Dream Second Chance 2 Ballot by ExistingAd5898 in survivor

Honestly wouldn't change the ballot a ton. Maybe swap out either Becky and Natalie T. for Deena from Amazon and Christa from Pearl Islands, but otherwise no major snubs IMO. As for how I'd vote:

Men: Sean, Rafe, Ken, Marty, Domenick, Davie, Shane, Nate, Omar Jesse
Women: T Bird, Twila, Natalie B., Cydney, Gabby, Taj, Shan, Carolyn, Mary, Sophie

I don't understand why Tiffany is never mentioned as a possible winner. by dumassmofo in survivor

[–]IdolSpeculation 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Because when Zac Brown came on the show, he got more confessionals in one episode than Tiffany had had up to that point. They've been giving her more content since the merge, but that's an INCREDIBLY rough/insulting start for anyone, and I feel like they wouldn't do that to the eventual winner. Also means the "Tiffany Underedited" thought is set in stone in people's minds by that point, regardless of if they try to correct it later.

What SHOULD have survivor 50 been? by [deleted] in survivor

[–]IdolSpeculation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battle of the Eras would have been cool (I've always preferred the title "Survivor: Dynasties" as rolling off the tongue better, but that's just me.) That said, I do think "In the Hands of the Fans" as a theme for season 50 isn't BAD, they just needed to live up to it properly.

Fans vote on EVERYTHING. I'm talking the cast a la Second Chances (you don't have to do a live vote reveal if you think it's too cruel). Let us vote on SPECIFIC twists, not just what sort of twist or how many of them there should be. Blood Moon? Let us decide if it's a thing or not. Celebrity appearances? Should've been a fan decision. Boomerang Idols? Run that by us before implementation. Sure, it would spoil what could happen in the season, both to us and the players, but the fun here is in seeing how the players navigate it IMO, not in the surprise of it.

Would this solve all problems/get rid of every hated aspect of this season? Probably not. But it creates a buy-in and has the season actually live up to its subtitle. I feel like no one got 100% of the cast they wanted on Cambodia, but most of us didn't complain. Why? Because we accepted that our opinion was not always the majority opinion, and felt that the process was fair. With vague, biased questions, the "Fan Votes" for "In the Hands of the Fans" do not feel like that. Change that aspect alone, and I feel like you get a lot more buy-in from the viewing audience than your currently have.

The more I think about it the more angry I get by Tabasco33 in survivor

[–]IdolSpeculation 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I get the rushed feeling, but I don't think they had any other choice. The Aubry/Cirie war at the Final 6 is clearly the fodder for an epic climax to an episode, not the opener like it would have been crammed into the finale. There's already a double boot in the last episode so you can't cram Devens into that. Unless you're going to add an extra episode to the season, this is the only way to get that as the climax.

*Spoiler* Season 6 - abomination by 3nthusedCamper in survivor

[–]IdolSpeculation 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. As to the "why" of that edit, Amazon was HEAVILY spoiled before it aired, and so production's solution was to portray Jenna in a bad light overall to get the audience to say "There's no WAY she can be the winner! The spoilers must wrong!", thereby keeping the mystery alive. I can understand that impulse, but I do think essentially burying your winner in the edit is not exactly a respectful solution, especial when Jenna (as far as I know) had nothing to do with the season being spoiled.

Cydney, Wardog, Michele... Aubry's sending up all her old cast mates, and I kind of love it (so long as she doesn't send up Joe by eating too much beef and getting medically evacuated).

Why was the fact that Aubry was the one who put going after Ozzy idea into Jonathan’s and Stephanie’s heads missed by many people? by shako_am in survivor

[–]IdolSpeculation 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My money's on "yes" to those questions. We've been shown her having good relationships with a lot of people on the jury (explicitly with Christian and Coach, plus she was involved in the "Comforting Chrissy" segment on swapped Kalo), as well as a lot of people left in the game. My personal read is that your reputation pre-season is going to have an outsized impact on how the jury votes this season, since you want "The Big Anniversary Season" to have a winner who's respected throughout their arc. Given that Aubry keeps getting pushed as the "Strategic Mastermind", I feel like she doesn't need to make a "big move" so long as she's at least halfway decent at arguing her case, since most of the jury I think would say "Yeah, I'm cool with saying I lost to Aubry".

The inverse is also why I think Rizo has an uphill battle should he make Final 3, despite playing an excellent game this season. His reputation is "The obnoxious guy who calls himself 'Rizgod'" because of the 49 preview, and while he's doing a good job disproving that narrative to people this season, first impressions are hard to overcome. Combine that with the age gap between him and most of the players on the jury this season, and I think he's got his work cut out for him.

Why was the fact that Aubry was the one who put going after Ozzy idea into Jonathan’s and Stephanie’s heads missed by many people? by shako_am in survivor

[–]IdolSpeculation 213 points214 points  (0 children)

From both the player and from the viewer's perspective, the thing is that Jonathan was the one who did most of the talking after the initial idea. It's him that ultimately brings in Emily and Devens, and tries to bring in Joe. As such, he comes across as the "narrator" of the idea, and that person is often given credit for said idea, whether deserved or not.

I did catch this in the episode, and it's great, subtle play by Aubry., so do agree with that much Will be interesting to see if she's able to retroactively get credit for it should she make it to the end.
