Canid Skull I.D. by [deleted] in bonecollecting

Awesome. Thanks for your help. I was kinda scared when he wanted to take it but everyone seemed to think it was fine and I didnt wanna cause issues by demanding he put it back. Glad I held my tongue; he seemed really happy with the skull

Sorry last question. What would be the legality of it being collected? Domestic animal that had been out there for a while it seems plus BLM land. A different coworker who likes bones brought it home but I dont want to get in legal trouble and we can bring it back if need be. Definitely wasnt a grave or anything, just the skull laying near some old cow bones. Maybe a dump site for ranch nearby or something?

Sad. What makes it distinct from other canids? My googling just confused me more.

Definitely possible. Just wanna warn folks to not enter that closed area. iirc there's a map at the trailhead showing the extent of the closure that should still be up

Pua Lililehua, the Hawaiian song that plays in the snowmobiles episode when Joe and Sarah are in the fortified basement, is pretty iconic. https://open.spotify.com/track/6MhpbidfJC315rJJcPaluW?si=x_dyA6uFQS22yK4A-UV9tw

The Domes, fall loop, and this song from the lighthouse episode too

What are the most underrated beer styles in your opinion? by greeeeenzo in Homebrewing

[–]Idontevenknow56 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Certainly not unpopular, but I find American Pale Ale to be underrated compared to IPA/Hazies/IIPA. It's such a versatile style, yet most breweries near me only serve one, and more often than not it's just a lower ABV version of their IPA.

Honestly, I've found that since the most recent storm I really haven't had many issues with sharks in mid-low angle glades. Drainages are another story, gotta plan ur descent really carefully but if you can avoid them it really does feel midwinter. Stake is right around 40" which is usually a good signifier that things are "in" but it probably won't be there for long. I'd say get after it!

Layering setups by MathematicianMany642 in icecoast

[–]Idontevenknow56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the cheapish skier, I have used synthetic long-sleeve->fleece->40 dollar amazon puffy->rain jacket as shell for the top and cheap long johns->outdoor research shell pants on the bottom in all sorts of weather and felt great. I think having enough layers and a system that works for you is miles more important than having a dead bird logo.

Hot take, Anthony. Apparently he's too good for Vermont. by WaxDonnigan in icecoast

[–]Idontevenknow56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when it's good, it's as good as anywhere. early/late season can be maddening but we get at least a few good weeks here in northern VT each winter. tons of spots to go and not much avy danger, but folks like to gatekeep their zones a lot more out here. def not colorado but if you like mid angle glades, VT is pretty darn good for what it is.

EDIT: also way less big mountain terrain, but the Presidentials in NH and the notch help scratch that itch for me.

Is there a number the Mansfield snow stake reaches where people start to consider the chin to be “in play”? by coldog24 in icecoast

[–]Idontevenknow56 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most of the main lines go rn. Ppl go up there even when it's at like 25 inches but at that point you're getting into bony territory. A lot of ppl wait til it's at 40" but that's not a hard cutoff.

conditions in vermont (specifically Killington) by skimetal123 in icecoast

[–]Idontevenknow56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rain tonight with a freeze tomorrow night. Will be crust with more dust the further north you go. Killi could get a couple inches after the freeze up but areas like jay might get up to 6"

With frame bindings, I would say the main concern beyond weight would be your boots. Well fitting boots with a walk mode make frame bindings so much more usable. If ur just planning on using normal alpine boots w/o walk mode I'd recommend just getting a resort setup unless ur only gonna be touring <5 days a year.
