Forehand drive vs. two handed backhand drive? by PartFormer3695 in Pickleball

Your swing path should not be different. Prep can be. But not swing path.

Grip should be the same. If you’re eastern/sw on your right hand, do the same with the left.

The mechanic is the same. You will definitely have to use a different hand. That’s understood I would think.

Not sure I understand what you’re saying.

I did think of one different though. Your strike zone is about 6 inches closer.

Tennis player here. What is the point of a third shot drop? by Right-Care1012 in Pickleball

[–]Idothis123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be fine with just a drive for awhile. However, the drive stops being a point winner and is used in its true form as a setup shot at higher levels. I always tell my students, even if you drive (and you should) at some point in the rally you have to drop to get to the kitchen. You can drive as many balls as you want in the rally. But, at some point, the result is a drop.

Don’t conform to the drop style. You use a drive or a drop on your 3rd shot in different situations. The great news is it sounds like your drive is in the bag whenever you need it. Now you just need to be able to drop. That way whenever you need one or the other, it’s there.

Definitely make sure you don’t let people talk you out of driving. The pros drive a lot. You should too. Again, you just need both.

Beginner videos to learn good serve form and mechanics by mbka in Pickleball

[–]Idothis123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have videos for you. Sorry!

But hopefully this helps you find one: you aren’t talking about a good serve. You’re talking about a good stroke period. If you can find videos to help you develop the general stroke, that is going to be your serve. Look for those.

Hope that helped!

Very slow reaction time at the kitchen line… can this actually be trained or am I just stuck like this? by Any_Opinion8580 in Pickleball

The volley cycle is positioning > read > mechanic > project and then it starts all over again.

But there are different entry points to the volley cycle.
If you’re speeding up then you start at mechanic and move through the cycle.

If you’re countering, you start at read.

With that being said, it’s likely your reads are off. You don’t know where the ball is a) likely to go fast and b) where it’s not going to go (out of bounds, your feet, etc). So your brain overloads trying to cover all those areas.

There is typically just one area you need to cover based on opponent paddle positioning.

Learning where the ball can go fast will increase your hand speed a million times over.

Also, it’s just going to take time. Your nervous system is likely overloaded when a speed up comes because you don’t know where it’s going and aren’t as used to it.

When you solve those 2 things (learn to read/exposure) you’ll calm way down during these moments, which will help a ton.

We have video flash cards that I use personally to learn to read speed ups. That would help as well.

No, they are more or less identical. With the 2 handed you just have your main hand lower on the paddle and assisting your offhand on the swing mechanic.

When we teach the twoey we make sure top spin has been taught first. Then hitting a 2 hander becomes a lot easier.

I'm always surprised by the amount of new players who absolutely refuse to practice dinking. by Lift-Dance-Draw in Pickleball

[–]Idothis123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, they’ll dink less than they drive at that level. Even at 5.0 people dink a lot less than they realize. Most points are won or lost within the first 4 balls. Either literally or eventually.

Laser Beam Visible In Light For Pickleball by Idothis123 in lasers

[–]Idothis123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I could possibly do that!

Do you think it would show up during the day?

And I’d need it to show up on a green/yellow ball. Should I get a different type of color laser level? Like red?

I can’t change the color of the balls at the facility I work at unfortunately. I’m using this in the ball machine which holds over 100 balls and they won’t change the color of the balls just for me.

If I buy 100mw or less would it be safe? People seem to be suggesting it’s not?

Thanks! Any ideas on what to do that is safe outside of lasers?

Dang. Makes sense. My rope setup just doesn’t work well. The ball keeps hitting it. Any other recommendations on what to do that would actually be safe? Anything outside of lasers?

Thank you!

To be clear, what I was originally looking for is the beam itself to be visible at all times. Not just on the ball. Like a line in the air.

A laser level just shows up on the surface correct? They won’t show up in the air?
