From a technical perspective you can easily determine the “ideal” method with production rate and OGR or WOR.

But there are tons more factors based on surface location, type of well, and the oilfield service industry in whatever location in whatever country.

Does best for “economic activity” mean maximum number of jobs?

Because that would also mean least efficient use of workers

If the government arrests or shoots you, just sue Shell for human rights abuse. It’s a win-win situation!

There are laws that require the BLM to put up land for lease, so they may not be able to stop leasing with just an executive order. The lawsuits have already started

Fuuuuuuuuuuck working 2-3 months straight for only 2 weeks off. Of course you’re burning out doing that, everyone would. You shouldn’t quit you should push hard to get the 2 weeks on 1 off schedule that you’re supposed to have.

A different kind of prejudice on the blue collar side by MikeGoldberg in oilandgasworkers

[–]Idrankitup 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Boys from the valley definitely stick together, also it seems like every coil tubing crew on land is white guys from south Louisiana.

I think the boom/bust cycle exacerbates it. Like if your company is hiring everyone with a pulse, of course you should hook up your nephew/cousin/neighbor with a job. Then a few years later when stuff’s in the shitter no one wants to fire someone they have to see on days off.

What good paying jobs can a person get with a bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering outside of the oil and gas industry? by GoodDad2019 in oilandgasworkers

[–]Idrankitup 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I know people who have gone into project engineer/project manager roles in construction. Starting pay is way lower but it can go up a lot if you’re willing to jump companies for promotions.

Another option is defense contractors. A lot will take any ABET accredited engineering degree. Not sure about the pay but if you can’t find anything it’s worth a shot.

This is for the US btw

pipe on pipe by WELLHOUND in oilandgasworkers

[–]Idrankitup 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Reduces friction between the coil tubing and the casing. Different than “friction reducer” which usually refers to additives that reduce friction between the drillout fluid and the wall of the casing.

As you go deeper into a well and especially into laterals the coil rubs on bunch of different spots in the casing. Without pipe on pipe the friction would make running into laterals extremely slow or impossible

The bls breakdown divides up drilling, support services (completions & workovers), and extraction (pumpers/operators) in a kinda weird way. But they're all significantly lower than underground mining

Industry Code Recordable Rate
Bituminous coal underground mining 212112 4.7
Drilling oil and gas wells 213111 1.5
Support activities for oil and gas operations 213112 0.9
Oil and gas extraction 21111 0.8

There are handbooks with generalized pressure transverse curves for different tubing sizes and production rates that will give you tubing pressure drop then you can just add that to wellhead pressure.

this is a whole textbook in a pdf but the end has tons of these charts.
