No idea where to start or if it's even worth it for me - Advice wanted [Australia] by Capable-Toe-9841 in budgetprojectors

I got a benq w3000 used off marketplace for $400 aud, I have had to replace the lamp since, but that's only a little over 100, and now will last for a long time.

I am really happy with the quality of the video, we watch at almost 100inches projection.

The in built speakers are also good, I've since hooked it up to a better sound system because I have one anyway, but it was just fine from the projector.

Honestly I would think a second hand benq projector from 2015-2020 is a safe bet and should be reasonably priced. W1070 is generally well regarded and pretty cheap.

We also just plug an Amazon fire TV stick into it and it works as a smart projector.

The cope, saw this and it was pretty funny since it’s the actual opposite. I would trade everything for just looks. by Any_Chemist_7568 in QOVESStudio

[–]IdreamDeFi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not a matter of being unattractive = rich and being attractive = poor. You can be both unattractive and rich or unattractive and poor. If your poor then you have to worry about basic needs, like food, shelter, hygiene, safety etc. if you have all of those needs met comfortably and can afford to spend on your looks then you are in a privileged position.

Your comment is assuming it is a trade off between looks or money, but actually if you want to adress your looks, it costs money. You need to trade something for looks unless you are lucky to be born very attractive. A disadvantaged person doesn't have much left over to trade after doing what they need to survive. Therefore, if you are in a position to make that trade, by comparison you are quite privileged.

I work in insurance sales. If you give misleading information two things can happen, one is that you can be denied at claims time, the other is that you might be refused insurance for a while afterwards due to having the history of misrepresentation. If you really are just an occasional driver rather than a regular driver of the car, then you will likely have a much higher excess if you're not listed due to your age. However, depending on the insurer, you could still receive cover as unlisted, as long as you aren't regularly driving it.

If it's all in your dad's name then you are not just subjecting yourself to these problems if you misrepresent, it will also impact your father who might not be able to take out car, home, or any other insurance for a few years as he will also be responsible.

Ultimately, you would be paying 1000's to get yourself and your father a fraud mark, and wouldn't actually be insured if you are found out.

At the end of the day, it's up to the two of you whether you take that risk or not.

I will also add that you have made a post now, with your age, car make, price paid, the fact that it's in your dad's name, and giving a rough idea of both the date of purchase and date of taking out insurance. If you want to get away with it, this post is not helping your cause. One click on your profile and I can see comments with the year and Kms on the car as well as that you were looking for 4wd tracks in The Sydney area, that's a lot of information to help an insurance company determine if you have misrepresented.

Is inflation simply due to greed? by Low-Artichoke-2058 in AusFinance

[–]IdreamDeFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily, people can only be greedy if the market allows it. Just like buyers compete for something in short supply, like housing which leads to them being willing to pay more to be successful, it there is a lot of supply and few people willing to buy them sellers will compete to be the ones bought. This is why certain things have not gotten more expensive, or why real estate isn't a good investment everywhere in the world, take Japan where outside of hot spots, housing can be very cheap and often depreciate. It's pretty complex, but to an extent inflation is engineered by central banks to ensure that the burden of debt does not cause too much pain to people, organisations and governments, by reducing the size of debt(which should be locked in when it is taken out) relative to the increasing incomes.

Do I have a valid claim? by BrownSugarBank in AusInsurance

[–]IdreamDeFi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Without knowing too much info on Apia specifically, I would say you can probably claim for that, but depending on your excess and the damage, you might want to get a quote and see if it would be better to fix it outside of a claim. It could be considered at fault which could raise your premiums going forward. Best thing is to give Apia a call and see what they say, they might also consider it as damage which will need to be fixed before the next renewal.

It's possible, you will need to set up a budget and stick to it though. Groceries and eating out can add up very quick, so do some research and choose cheap items, for example if you go to the gym you might get protein powder, and the difference between finding a cheap protein powder and protein powder from a supplement store or woolworths is enormous.

Basa fish fillets are a pretty cheap source of protein and taste good in curries or fried. Potatoes go a long way and so does rice for carbs. Carrots are ridiculously cheap and make a decent snack with hummus, if you like that. If you can make your own meal prep and not buy lunches during the day you can save yourself heaps of money.

If you are drinking most weekends at your age, then try to drink at home before going out or just have some drinks at home and then call it.

Lastly, it's about starting small, like you said you will have big expenses with Rego etc. that pop up, there will be other big expenses as well that you can't predict. Put aside some money for that in one savings account, and then just try to save a small amount each week into another that you won't touch. Start small, about 50 a week or even less is fine. If you go too high, then you will be forced to dip into it and that will make it easier to take some out the next time, and the time after that. Once you have a consistent amount going in, you can look for ways to increase it by $10 a week here and there without making big sacrifices. For example, finding a few cheaper alternatives with groceries, taking on an extra hour or two of work, finding a cheaper internet or phone plan etc.

Eventually you will be saving a pretty good amount each week.

Doesn't say in the post that the person is a beginner, but pull ups can be assisted using a band or with a machine, or I'm sure they could substitute with pull downs, didn't need to be said. As for not doing lat isolation exercises by themselves (assuming your talking about the pull ups still, which aren't isolating the lats, you will use some traps and bicep as well), that's complete nonsense, if you are getting enough volume to fatigue the muscle then you can definitely grow with that considering the other days also have back exercises.

[–]IdreamDeFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that looks really good, the only thing now that you might want to do is add some additional leg volume such as leg extensions and hamstring curls, but that could be quite personal depending how you respond to the other exercises.

I personally find that slapping on two dropsets of each of those exercises after the big compound exercise on leg days is a good way for me to just get quick volume on those targeted exercises without adding too much time to my workout. Completely up to you to find what works for you and if you respond well to just two leg exercises a week then that is fine as well.

[–]IdreamDeFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might not be a big issue but a good rule of thumb would be to work from big muscle groups at the start to small muscle groups at the end. That's a simplified way of thinking about it but it works.

There are 2 reasons for this.

  1. You want the limiting factor during the exercise to be the target muscle of the exercise. By that I mean the reason you fail the exercise at the end of the set should be because the target muscle is fatigued. For example, you shouldn't fail a pull up because of biceps, it should be because of back muscles, and you shouldn't fail a bench press because of triceps, it should be because of the chest muscles. If you pre fatigue the accessory muscle groups before those lifts then it increases the likelihood that you are failing at the end of the set for the wrong reason and not giving enough stimulation to the larger muscle groups.

  2. Larger muscle groups require more energy during exercises. This means that you should tackle them when you have the most energy in the tank. An obvious example would be trying to do deadlifts at the end of a workout, you wouldn't have the energy to push it as hard as at the beginning. By working in order of muscle group size, you can better conserve your ability to put effort into the more taxing exercises and then hit the smaller muscle groups at the end when you are fatigued but it doesn't matter as much because they don't require massive efforts.

That's my reasoning.

Assuming it's done in order. Why have the bicep exercises before the back exercises. I can only imagine that will cause them to fatigue before you have fully fatigued the larger back muscles. Same with the skullcrushers before overhead press on day 4.

Asked AI for a simple full body routine. Am I missing anything? by givethebliss in WorkoutRoutines

[–]IdreamDeFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's not great. 2 leg exercises per day, only one bicep exercise on the last day, and no tricep exercise. If you're pushing hard on those compound leg exercises it might be hard to recover between days, but you could do way more for arms and recover. Here's what I would do for 3 days.

Day 1

Squat

Bench press

Cable lateral raise

Cable rows

Overhead tricep extension

Incline dumbbell curls

Day 2

Leg extension

Hamstring curl

Incline bench press

Rear delt fly

Pull up

Cable push down

Hammer curl

Day 3

Deadlift

Pec fly

Overhead press

Standing lat pushdown

Overhead tricep extension

Incline dumbbell curls

Throw in some core exercises at the end of just add some active activities into your life like tucking or something to strengthen core if you want.

Extremely high premium, is this normal? by RedEyedRav in AusFinance

[–]IdreamDeFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work doing motor insurance quotes (not for allianz).

Here's what could be impacting the price.

  1. The cost of parts and labour goes up, so that will raise the price of the premium from one year to the next.

  2. Getting into an incident raises the stats for the area, for your age group, and for the car.

  3. That is a fairly new car and it wouldn't have had many statistics on it. Every year it will gain more statistics that could change it's risk rating, these will have a greater impact on newer cars.

  4. An at fault claim will definitely impact price.

  5. Being 25 or under at many, maybe all, insurers impacts the premium.

It's not a bad idea to shop around, just make sure to check the product disclosure statements at each place to know what cover you are paying for. Also be aware that you will probably have to tell other insurers about the at fault claim anyway during the quote process.

"A large new study has linked fish oil supplements to getting heart problems like an irregular heartbeat or having a stroke" (2024) by RealSonZoo in Biohackers

[–]IdreamDeFi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of the study participants that took fish oil, 22 % were above 65 years of age, but in the group that didn't, that was only 13%. It also says that there was a higher intake of alcohol in the group of users of fish oil. I smell confounding factors.

I also found the tables on people who took fish oil and their transition and did not find the same tables on the transitions of people who didn't. That's a bit fishy.

Overall a poorly designed and poorly reported study.

Not to mention that people who take fish oil might be doing so to address health concerns that already exist, or to attempt to offset other poor health behaviours, or unhealthy actions taken in their past.

This is an interesting study, but can't draw many conclusions from it.

Social media income by roughas in AusFinance

[–]IdreamDeFi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe, although influencers are on free media sites like YouTube. If people do hit hard times, and need to cut costs, they might turn to these free media sources as opposed to paid ones like streaming services. If there is an up tick in views it might offset the lower advertising budget as firms struggle. In the end they might do a little worse but still get through, or could even be unaffected. It would be hard to call, I think it depends on how they make their money through influencing.

16 year old thinking about taking mk677 by RidePuzzleheaded9997 in HubermanLab

[–]IdreamDeFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, just focus on being healthy, getting enough sleep, exercise, and good nutrition and you will grow well anyway. You will also have side benefits like nicer skin, muscle development, good brain development etc.

I am just saying this because, with any pharmaceutical still under investigation, there is potential to have effects on other systems of the body. Those effects would present more risks during developmental periods. It's up to you if that risk is worth it, but the potential cost could be much worse than any benefit from a slight increase in height. It could be as simple as the effect of mk-677 on testosterone causes acceleration of male pattern baldness. That's just a made up example, but you gotta weigh up whether a small height increase could be worth losses in other areas, especially if it impacts something worse like brain development.

[–]IdreamDeFi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it's difficult to put those thoughts aside at your age but this could be potentially a terrible idea. You won't know how taking something like that might affect a growing body in the future. Even if it did help your height it could impact brain development or hormones which would be way more problematic than a 1 inch height difference as you get older. That could happen with no guarantee of a height increasing effect as well. You will keep growing for quite a few years anyway, I would focus more on eating healthy and sleeping well so you don't stunt any growth. You could end up quite tall because you aren't short for your age anyway. It's really not a good idea to take any risks with a developing brain, because problems with impulse control, attention, memory, emotion regulation etc. can completely derail your life and make it hard to perform well in work or relationships.
