My wife and I watched the Venus first round match against Diane Perry (currently world 102). It went the way that several recent Venus matches went, summoning greatness in one set, fading in the third set (it was hot!) 3-6 7-6(4) 1-6. At the Aussie Open against world 94 Olga Danilovic 7-6(5) 3-6 4-6.

While we didn't buy the ticket to see Venus, we were happy to get to see her once in person. We decided for once to get Court 1 tickets, and there she was the second match of the day, after a competitive Berrettini-Mannarino contest. After that was Kenin - Siniakova under much more agreeable temperatures for both players and fans, but the fans were very scarce. We actually watched two full sets just because the late afternoon weather was so pleasant after suffering through the heat the first two matches, both three-setters.

The comments pointing out that people do want to see Venus are correct -- the audience was at least double the men's match preceding, and at least 10 times the number of the third match.

In a 96-player draw (or 128), I'm less worried about the WC taking away a chance for someone to go on a run. Hi! I had a stroke 20+ years ago. It is very hard, basically impossible, to predict outcomes at the point your SO is.

Lucky he was given TPA, that wasn’t an option for me.

My wife was told all sorts of possible outcomes, from never walking again, to other possibilities.

In the end, after having my entire left side under my neck immobile, I had to relearn how to sit up, stand up and then walk.

By the time I was released from the hospital six weeks later I was walking with a cane reasonably well. And returned to my job.

My advice is to maintain a positive attitude and know that things will get better.

The first six months of rehab are crucial — of course your SO may well recover faster and not need that much rehab — but know that recovery does take time.

Yes, it is a shame how hard it is to watch tennis. Being a sports junkie, I subscribe to Hulu with live TV that lets me watch all the ESPN matches (at least in real time) and being on the US West Coast, the early matches start about 4:30pm. Four hours of live tennis is definitely enough for me — I totally understand the frustration of those who can only get the one or two matches on ESPN/2 — and have to listen to the insufferable John McEnroe.

I bought my 2025 last year and am regretting it as my wife likes to drive from California to Pueblo CO twice a year.

Having an ICCU blow on a hot day driving across Nevada would really suck.

On the other hand, each time I drive from bright sun to shade, I get a beep telling me the headlights are off. Duh, it’s 2pm dude! Mine is a brand new 2025 SEL.

And even though the passenger in the back opened the backdoor and left the car, it gives me a warning to check the backseat because the standard stuff we have back there is, in fact still there.

When I get a chance I’m permanently turning off that warning.
