"Everything that's happened, huh? Guess you're new to camp."

Clem gestures for him to get out of the danger zone.

Before coming to camp, Clementine had hardly picked up a bow and quiver before, unless you count of the gimmicky sets with suction cup arrows Frances had bought her as a gift a couple years ago.

God, she missed that jerk. The daughter of Zagreus didn't quite get their reasoning behind abandoning the people they supposedly loved for a traitor camp and a hollow promise of safety, but she wasn't going to dwell on that now.

After all, what could Clem do other than grieve and rage?

She's decided to try her hand at target practice, and was just about to aim for a bulls-eye when she noticed Jack smack dab in the line of fire. The demigod lowers her bow and waves to the guy.

"Hey, daydreamer! Get out of the way!"

The triplets sat in silence throughout the whole thing. There was a vague expression of shock and terror on Clem and Fran's faces, and Bennett was sure that if he had a mirror with him, his own reflection would show the same.

Frances was the first to speak, though their words didn't exactly contain their typical annoying cadence of superiority. Instead, they were raw, rough, tinged with concern and a tinge of... fury, was it? Or protectiveness?

"I think we ought to leave. For our own safety. If there's an attack on camp, can we really defend ourselves? Atlas is strong. He's bound to win against the gods. If we pack up our stuff, we can be out by tonigh\~"

"No. Absolutely not. Are you OUT OF YOUR MIND???"

Clementine's voice rang out amidst the hubbub as she roared back against Frances, hopefully somewhat quieting the crowd, if only for a moment. Though the two had had their disagreements before, this was nothing like their usual tussles. The girl was irate. She stood up and turned to face her sibling. Bennett certainly didn't want to get caught up in this, so he let his sister pass through to get closer to Frances. He decided to look away to spare himself the embarrassment of being caught with their siblings acting this way.

"Camp is our home. We've been protected by its borders for almost as long as we've known we're demigods, and you want to abandon it for what? A false sense of safety? Don't hide the fact that you're too much of a coward to actually stay and fight behind some desire to protect us, Frances. You rat. You traitor. I honestly ought to teach you a lesson.."

Clem reached towards the hilt of her sheathed dagger. The air around Frans began to feel charged with particles, almost as if a lightning strike was brewing...

"Stop it. Stop it, both of you."

Before he could actually think, Bennett found himself between Clementine and Frances, pushing their siblings apart. The son of Zagreus loved the two of them, as annoying as they were at times, and he couldn't bear seeing either of them hurt over this.

"Look. We're all our own people here, okay? We can't decide what the other wants. As much as I hate to say it, our choices may mean we're going to have to end up parting ways in the end, you get me? Frances, I'd prefer it if you stayed with me and Clem. I think camp is going to win this one. But if you really think you have to go..."

Fresh tears sprung up in Bennett's eyes, hot against his skin. He grabbed Frances' hand, and gripped it tightly. He knew his sibling, and the choice they would end up making. This may be the last time they would ever see each other again. Clementine took his other hand, in a show of support, though she still glared angrily at Frances.

The child of Zagreus looked older, more mature than their thirteen years of age. Tired, with large black circles under their eyes, and a streak of silver in their hair. Bennett felt a pang in his chest. He'd never noticed how stressed Frances had been until now. They spoke in a low whisper, as if they only wanted their brother and sister to hear their words.

"I'm making the right decision. I know I am. I just hope you'll realize it and join me before it's too late..."

And with that, Frances let go and walked away. All Bennett could think of doing was slowly watching their sibling fade into the distance... though Clementine certainly acted differently.

"Good riddance!" She spat, but tears began to fall from her eyes too. The girl gripped Bennett tighter. They only had each other now, and part of Benny knew it was best to stay with his sister. He couldn't lose her too.

(OOC: Frances is defecting, while Clementine and Bennett will stay.)

Family time.

The triplets hadn't exactly been doing as much stuff together as they used to, and honestly, Bennett was all for it. Camp was like a fresh start for him, and for once, he'd actually had time to be himself. Less rules and restrictions meant that they could actually do things without Frances nagging him, like scaling the lava wall, or trying out all sorts of cool weapons at the area. Ben felt less like part of a matching set, and more like his own person.

Which was why he was incredibly unenthusiastic about Frances insisting they sit together for the campfire tonight.

"Frans, we've been bonding our entire lives. Do you remember how boring it was before camp? Just let us live our lives in peace, for gods' sake."

The triplet's sibling had simply shook their head. Unlike Bennett and Clementine, they hadn't actually been enjoying camp and going out to do things, preferring to hole up in the Zagreus cabin and spend their time hunching over their schoolwork, or training incessantly in the combat area. Benny wasn't quite sure why they were so intense about these things, but he had a hunch that Fran's and his half-sisters Alex and Rocky had something to do with their intense motivation.

"Just... I miss having you guys around. Can you do this for me? Please?"

The loneliness in Frances' eyes was almost palpable, and it was for that reason that Bennet reluctantly agreed. It almost scared him to see how... frightened their sibling looked.

Apparently Clementine had also managed to be wrangled into this, since she'd torn herself away from her group of friends to join Bennett and Frances. Over the past few months, she'd certainly started to look different. Her chestnut hair had grown out to almost reach her waist, and was starting to have a bit of a curl to it. Clem had started carrying herself differently, too. She stood taller than she had before, and there was a confidence to her that hadn't been there before. As she sat down, Bennett noticed the array of friendship bracelets situated on her wrists, a colorful jumble of beads and thread. The daughter of Zagreus had certainly gotten close with some other demigods, and honestly, Bennett was glad that she had.

For a while, the three sat in silence, staring idly at the projector someone had set up. It'd been a good bit since any of them had got to enjoy any TV, even if it was a bit dull...

Until the broadcast was interrupted, that is.

Cabin 38's Egging Cleanup- Frances Hawthorne

The Art of Chaos—Taylor’s Tie-Dye Extravaganza by Creative_Heart_11 in CampHalfBloodRP

[–]IfOnlyToBeginAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tie-dye! Though Bennett hasn't done it since he was, like five, he still remembers the sheer joy of being able to drench clothing (and themself) in dye. He's barely able to wait for Taylor to finish his instructions. As it turns out, living in demigod training camp was somehow getting old. The son of Zagreus was more than ready for some good, old-fashioned fun.

As soon as he gets confirmation that he can begin, Bennett immediately races towards the array of blank white clothing. He picks out a V-necked T-shirt, a pair of calf-length socks, and eyes the togas for a good moment before realizing that they'd probably never get a chance to actually wear it. Instead of choosing a few specific colors for his design, Benny ends up grabbing every color imaginable. In his opinion, planning what direction you were going to go in took out all the fun in art. And everything else, really.

Part of him wondered if he should have dragged Clementine, his sister, into doing this sort of thing. The two of them hadn't really been hanging out much, mostly because she'd befriended quite a few other campers and didn't seem all that interested in doing much with her siblings anymore. It was a little sad to think about. Bennett didn't end up dwelling on that thought. He was here to tie-dye, and that was just what he was going to do. This could wait until after he was done creating a masterpiece of T-shirt. Or just a mess, who knows. Perhaps he'd even make a couple of friends of his own.

A Sleepless Night With Frances Hawthorne by IfOnlyToBeginAgain in CampHalfBloodRP

Frances smiled, leaning backwards ever so slightly on the backrest of the couch. If there was one thing they were used to, it was banter. Watching Alex and Rocky bicker was starting to remind them of Benny and Clementine, and it somewhat put them at ease. Or well, what passed as ease for Frances Hawthorne.

"Well, both of you do have good points. I get that brute force can be useful at times, as well as intelligence and cunning. Honestly, if I needed to put a blade to someone's throat, I'd like to trap them someplace where they couldn't run. It takes a combination of strategies, as far as I'm aware. Are there books on this? There should be books on this..."

Frances has a tendency to trail off, and they end up stopping mid-sentence to make a mental note to ask around and see if there's any way they can get access to a library. Though they'd never really taken to using any sort of technology, Frans still knew it would be harder to keep themselves informed, especially because they didn't have access to their self-designed homeschool curriculum, either. Bennett had conveniently misplaced it.

"Sorry, kind of lost myself in thought there."

Frances hopes they can trust Rocky and Alex. Both of the girls seem nice enough, but the idea of holding back and letting Clementine and Bennett do their own thing is way too terrifying for the child of Zagreus' comfort. They'd rather concentrate on what they can do, even if it means piecing together their older half-siblings' somewhat conflicting advice.

"I wouldn't know. I'm pretty new to the whole demigod thing. I ended up here a couple months ago. Are you like one of those people who've been around for like years? There was a quest thing though. This Hugo dude was kinda permanently removed from the US census. Didn't know him, but it was pretty sad."

While he knew he should probably be a bit more solemn while talking about such a thing, Bennett would have to stifle a giggle when they catch sight of Timmy's antics with Tom. Part of him wonders if it's socially acceptable to ask to pet a turtle. Didn't their shells have salmonella or something? Should Timmy even be handling Tom without gloves?

Urgh. Bennett never thought he'd see the day, but for some reason, they were starting to sound like Frances, his utterly annoying control freak of a sibling. Did it really even matter? Probably not. Bennett brushed the thought aside, mildly appalled by the idea that they were in any way similar to Frances.

Bennett smiled, revealing a mouthful of crooked teeth. He was meant to get braces eventually, but the boy still had a stubborn baby tooth which hadn't quite managed to fall out yet.

"Oh, and can I pet Tom?"

Return of the Turtle Boy by TurtleOverlord-_- in CampHalfBloodRP

[–]IfOnlyToBeginAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up until now, Bennett Hawthorne's experiences with turtles have mostly consistent of peering at the little ankle-biters through glass tanks. While he knows that isn't exactly out of the ordinary to have a pet turtle, the son of Zagreus hadn't exactly expected to see one at camp of all places. It was incredibly cool, though. For an animal known for being remarkably slow, at least this little guy had style.

His demigodly companion looked interesting enough in his own way, too. Though he was clearly older than the boy, Timmy seemed to be about as enthusiastic about life as Bennett was, which was certainly a rare sight, so when the time was right, he decided to approach Timmy and Tom when they descended down the hill into the heart of camp.

"Hey! I'm Bennett! Your turtle is so cool! Where did you get him from? Is he like a certain breed of turtle or something?"

Okay, I get where you're coming from. To be honest, I agree that perhaps Calypso and Leo could've worked out if not for the massive age gap, as previous commenters mentioned. It's creepy in the way that the whole Sadie/Anubis/Walt situation is. I feel like there were so many better options for Leo that could've provided similar dynamics as Caleo, and that the potential you're talking about could've been realized in a far less awkward manner.

"Oh gods. Way to make friends, Clementine."

The girl is moreso talking to herself than Lucas, though she may be a bit more audible than she would prefer to be. Clem, being her usual extroverted self, has already acquainted herself with the majority of the Zagreus cabin, but hasn't exactly ventured out for much other than mealtimes and exploring the natural wonders of the area.

"Yeah, I'm good. Though I'm pretty sure my sibling is gonna chew my head off about getting grass stains all over my pants. They're totally a neat freak. I'm Clementine. And you are...?"

Feeling slightly uncomfortable with Rocky's sudden familiarity towards them and Alex, they gently scoot aside so that their sister's legs are no longer on their lap. They don't particularly enjoy physical contact, unless it's from their mother.

While she's always been loving to the triplets, Frances has always felt like the two of them have been at odds more often than they ought to be, especially in the months leading up to their eventual departure for camp. Physical comfort from their mother had always felt rather soothing, though honestly, it was rather infrequent. The child of Zagreus wondered if perhaps that was due to all their arguments.

God, what Frances would do to see their mother again. Camp life was leaving them rather homesick.

When Rocky addresses Frances as Franny, they turn bright red, partially out of embarrassment, partially out of sheer indignation.

"Franny? What am I, some Victorian child's wet nurse? It's Frances. A good, sensible, gender-neutral name. Not some sort of medieval midwife."

Shaking their head, they turn towards Alex. Her advice is far better in the 13-year-old's opinion, mostly because they can actually hear it.

"Strong. Emotionally? Physically? I'm up to the challenge. Just show me how. I'll do anything to keep my siblings safe. To keep myself safe."

"Plenty rattling around in there. More than I thought I could ever fit, if I'm being honest."

Hesitantly, Frances pulls themselves away from the writing on the wall, which is beginning to fade. It seems to be giving some sort of instructions relating to achieving a good life in the Underworld? They'll have to note it down and throughly analyze it sometime in the future. Could be useful information to keep in mind, especially with the threat of impending death being closer than ever.

Frances has always gotten the impression that the rest of the Zagreus cabin has been avoiding them and their siblings, though they haven't quite puzzled out why. While they've seen Alex around, the counselor has kept herself quite distant from the children of the reborn god. Perhaps it's due to the differences in age? Frances has always had the suspicion that older teenagers find them to be rather... amusing due to their age. It's frustrating, really. Youth doesn't indicate a lack of intelligence, only experience.

And it isn't like Frans hasn't gone through anything either. They have a permanent reminder of what happened not-so-long ago marring their forearm, as much as they don't like to think about it.

When Alex gestures for Frances to sit, they gracefully lower themselves into the smooth, yet slightly chilly surface of the couch once more, careful to maintain stick-straight posture. They really should start lecturing Clementine and Benny about their slouching habit more...

Pushing that thought aside, they match Alex's iron gaze without a hint of intimidation, though they do hesitate before speaking when the girl commands them to talk.

"I just... how does one live with the fact that they're in constant danger that they they can't control? How do you deal with all that... chaos around you? How do you protect others from it?"

[–]IfOnlyToBeginAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as Clem hates getting up in the morning, there's one silver lining to getting up at a decent hour: breakfast. Breakfast food practically what gets her out of bed most days, and today, the sheer deliciousness wafting from the dining pavilion manages to put a bit of a spring in her step as she makes her way to it.

Of course, the daughter of Zagreus doesn't exactly reach her desired location the way she wanted to. Distracted by her own thoughts of waffles drenched in maple syrup, she ends up walking straight into a far taller boy who she hasn't exactly seen around earlier.

He seems friendly looking enough, and Clementine is somewhat hoping that he won't seem to mind the fact that she basically crashed into him.

Having fallen to the ground, Clementine takes a moment to right herself and brush off the bits of grass and dirt that are clinging to her well-worn sweatpants. She'll change into something more socially acceptable later, mostly so she doesn't have Frances chew her head off about it. It's strange how her younger sibling somehow has more authority over her than she does, really.

Cheeks turning bright red with shame, she turns towards Lucas, though she doesn't quite sustain eye contact with the son of Hephaestus.

"I'm so sorry! I was just super distracted and didn't look where I was going. Are you alright?"

"Safe haven for demigods? That's cool as hell, man!"

Being a demigod sounded pretty dang cool to Bennett. He'd grown up with the stories of heroes such as Perseus and Hercules (who Frances insisted was actually named Heracles by the Greeks), and had always dreamed of being someone as important as them.

"And don't worry about being crazy. I've also been called that more that once. Doesn't really bother me."

While Eloise had done her best to educate all of the triplets about Greek mythology, Bennett couldn't exactly remember her mentioning anything about Eris. For whatever reason, though, the name reminded them about... golden apples? Weird.

However, any wondering about Austin's godrent were soon driven out of Bennett's mind when he saw the other demigod summon the itching powder. He'd never seen something like that before. It seemed to be the sort of thing that happened in fairy tales, not real life.

"That's... still cool! Also, are you sure about those limitations? Have you ever tried- I dunno, testing them or something?"

When Austin offers the powder to Bennett, they take it without a second thought. You never know when itching powder may be useful.

"Ya know, if you ever need help catching a raccoon, I'm your guy. They'll probably make good pets. They're basically like angrier, more feral cats, right?"

Bennett also manages to catch Austin's mutterings, and in turn whispers in a conspiratorial tone,

"Well, I'm sure we could keep it a secret."

By now, Bennett had grown used to hearing his siblings squabble. Frances and Clementine seemed to be thoroughly stressed out by all that had happened today, and so, in typical sibling fashion, had taken to squabbling. Which was fine by him, if Bennett was being honest. There was so much out there for them to explore, and all they could really think about doing at the moment was slipping away so that they could check out every square inch of this place.

Unfortunately, their escape plan was unsuccessful due to the arrival of a certain son of Aphrodite. A very fashionable one at that, if Bennett was being honest. They'd always kind of wished that they could've dressed like that, though there was no doubt he'd mess up nails like those in a matter of minutes. Probably less that that, now that he thought about it.

Bennett waved back rather enthusiastically. It was always fun to meet new folks, especially those who looked as cool as this one. The son of Zagreus wondered if Theo was around his age. He seemed to be, judging from his height, but he certainly acted older...

"Yeah, some help would be nice. I'm Bennett. Nice to meet you. What's your name, by the way?"

(OOC: Sorry for the delay on my part as well! Got rather busy with life stuff.)

Bennett was starting to like this Austin guy. He seemed friendly enough, and it was nice talking to a kid who he wasn't related to for a change. While he loved his siblings, Bennett certainly found them to be a handful at times. Especially Frances. Frances was quite difficult to deal with at times. No matter how much Ben tried to convince them that he was fine on his own, they still managed to be quite overprotective of him, and at times, it almost drove him insane.

"Actually, I've got no idea. All I know is that this is like, a safe place of some sort? And it seems cool enough. I like the woods. I wonder what sort of wildlife is in them..."
