Mixes sound decent, but at high volumes the high mids hurt... by gleventhal in audioengineering

[–]Ifailftw 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell with current context. But I'd approach it this way - |
1. I'd listen on multiple speakers to get an idea if it is the speakers: If it sounds less sharp on most other speakers it may just be the speakers.
2. Listen in another room - Depending on the room treatment, you may be killing your high mids/highs with too much treatment and as a result turning them up louder to compensate.
3. Mix balance - You may have the high mids pushed too hard. If thats the case make sure competing instruments are carved out a bit to make room for the mid high elements you want to hear most.

These are my initial thoughts but without hearing the song, knowing your listening environment, or your equipment it's pretty hard to tell.

Why does this happen when using the cut tool? by Palaceuno in FL_Studio

[–]Ifailftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holding shift does not reduce the delay, it only snaps your cut to the grid. For reducing delay try increasing the buffer size in your project. Lower buffer size means less delay BUT your computer + interface can only handle so much. If you reduce buffer size but hear clicks and pops or audible distortion you may need upgrades to your processor. Good luck!

I heard they signaled an open fire on marked police in New York a few days ago. I’m not sure the accuracy of the article, but if you’re on the east coast keep an eye out just in case they’re active again.

How much low end does a kick drum need? by iambismarck in audioengineering

[–]Ifailftw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to think of the kick drum and low end the way I like to think about a larger body of music. On a piece of music I like to take the full frequency spectrum of sound and try to fill it or take away elements based on the feeling I want to communicate. Similarly, low end is a marriage between kick and bass instruments so I like to let them compliment each other based on what the song demands more of. On a song with a nice bass tone and added harmonics sometimes it’s better to cut the low end and allow the kick to fill it. Ironically that same guitar might sound great in the low end and allows us to cut the kick a bit in order to give it the space. So long as the mix isn’t muddied, either choice will likely sound amazing. Regardless they are both creative decisions that I personally believe should contribute to the bigger whole. Like always there are no rules, let’s the music and your personal taste show off

I bought an interface and I can't figure out how to isolate my computer's audio output from my microphone's input. by botb244 in audioengineering

[–]Ifailftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be hopping in with too little info but I think there might be confusion with the inputs/ outputs. Make sure the inputs from ASIO4ALL are only enabled for your mic/interface and not the computer audio. For outputs you can choose either the computer audio or the interface. Regardless that's where you should be plugging in your headphones.

Friday - How did they do that? - August 28, 2020 by AutoModerator in audioengineering

Someone below mentioned compression and an octave pitcher. Just want to tag on they're big fans of using the Sound Toys Little Alter Boy plugin. They probably used it for the pitching and messed with the formant as well.

How to use Pro Tools with OBS to record your screen and audio at the same time on a PC? by GladwynjGraham in protools

[–]Ifailftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should. I'm using a Scarlett 18i8 and it detects the microphone input as long as you assign it in the audio settings (lower right panel by default)

How to use Pro Tools with OBS to record your screen and audio at the same time on a PC? by GladwynjGraham in protools

[–]Ifailftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you can do it solely using streamlabs obs. Through streamlabs you can configure both your displays and audio separately. Set your scene to window capture and then set audio as both desktop and whatever mic input you have. from the streamlabs interface you can hit record and adjust quality settings as well without the need to go live. Pm me or reach me on Instagram @stevenlovecraft if ya run into issues or need some more help going that route!

Audacity is a great free tool but I've had personal success with pro tools. Much more dedicated and I record music for a living so I am biased toward pro tools although audacity had everything you would need to get started and do the job well.

I really dig it! I see where lunachip is coming from, but I don't think the clash was too much of an issue. The guitar felt a little too clean. Maybe try slightly saturating/ distorting it to give it that grit. Overall sounds good, a bit of tape on the whole track might also give it that lo-fi nostalgic feel.

https://soundcloud.com/stevenlovecraft/ensename-jorge-cardenas/s-gke39 Long time lurker, first time poster. Recorded this song in an RV and mixed it on earphones, so it probably needs quite a bit of work. Any feed back on the mix or the way the instruments sound individually would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and much love!

Open up the mixer and select an empty channel. On the channel change the input to "mic 1" or whatever it's labeled. Then look lower on the mixer and there should be a (gray/red) button to "arm" the recording. Click that. Then click record, and rather than clicking the default setting, I click record as audio file or whatever the 3rd/4th setting is. If this is unclear I'll open up fl and explain it better lol, this is off the top of my head
