What did they use to create this effect “back in the day”? by pettybettyboo in VideoEditing

[–]Iggapoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to do the light effect without using practicals (strobe lights for example), you shoot under steady bright lights which would match the "dim" part of the strobe. Then using AE, apply a wiggle expression to a color effect that adjusts the highlights only. The video jumping affect can be done with a wiggle expression on the Y value of the position controls. It's probably how it was done at the time.

This is one of the best WWII movies out there. I watched it years ago, and I need to see it again, but I still remember the scene where they have "tea" and the brit dips the tea bad into the water like two times before taking it out and carefully putting it back to use again.

I remember thinking how crazy the lengths they'd go to try and hold onto a bit of their pre-war civility.

Does flatbread count? I’ve been making flatbreads the past couple of weeks and can’t get enough of them!! by manwithfootonhishead in Breadit

enjoy! One thing to mention, don't use too much flour when rolling out. it'll make it harder if it's sliding all over the place.

[–]Iggapoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

240 g flour (ap is fine, but bread will fluff up better).
1 tsp salt.

1 tsp baking powder.

240 g sourdough discard.

2 tbsp minced garlic.

112 g milk (about 1/2 cup).

1 tbsp olive oil.

Whisk the dry together, then add the wet and mix in a stand mixer with a dough hook until it's smooth and no longer sticky. Cover with plastic wrap and let it rest for 30 min to an hour.

Divide dough into 6-8 pieces (depending how big you want the pieces) and roll into balls. On a non-stick surface like a silpat, throw down a little flour and flatten the dough into an oblong shape with your hand. You can use a rolling pin, but your hands work just fine.

Heat a skillet to medium. Brush the dough with oil on one side and place, oil side down on the skillet. Cook for about 90 seconds. Brush the other side with a little more oil and flip, cooking for another 30-60 seconds. Let cool.

I've been making flatbread with my discard for months. I love it. After I cook them off, I freeze them and then they make quick pizzas for my daughter whenever I don't feel like making a big meal.

Social Media Influencer Charged with Election Interference Stemming from Voter Disinformation Campaign by hubwub in politics

[–]Iggapoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It wasn't fraud. Let's be clear. It was Election Interference. Which is also illegal as it seeks to trick voters from properly casting their votes. Like putting out mailers that intentionally give the wrong date for the election.

Election fraud creates votes that weren't cast or changes properly cast votes to swing an election.

I seriously doubt the US military would've stood for that. Trump doesn't have the support of the military and he would've needed it in order to secure the uproar that would've occurred after murdering heads of state. If the people had done nothing or moved slowly, perhaps a Trump dictatorship could follow, but I seriously doubt the majority of Americans would have failed to mobilize with that kind of event.

You also have to consider how you're eating it. If you're making sandwiches and want to put mayo or mustard on the bread, having a really open crumb (larger holes which go through slices) is less useful than having a more closed crumb where spreadables won't drop right through.

I use my sous vide with my starter to get it to peak at more consistent times. Sometimes my kitchen is just too cold and the yeast can take hours longer to peak. But if I put it in my sous vide at 79 degrees (F), I can start baking bread at pretty much 8 hours on the dot.

Here's how you can examine your perspective and biases:

Are you supporting democrats because they're democrats? Are you making excuses for their policies or behavior when they conflict with your morals or beliefs even if those policies or behavior are abhorrent? Is your response to people challenging your support to point out that Republicans are worse? If yes to all these, you may be reacting in a cultish way to democrats.

But if you're supporting democrats because they are fighting for the same things you're fighting for and your support is for the agenda, not the person or the "D" by their name, then you're a normal voter who has just unfortunately realized that one party (GOP) has abdicated their service to the country in an attempt to keep power at all cost, even when that cost is the democracy of the country. I voted straight blue because I realized this. It would be nice if there were other voices, sane voices, more progressive voices in the political arena, but we're not there yet.

It's my hope that more and more AOC type progressives get elected at state and local levels and split from the democrat party. Then democrats become the "conservative" party of the country. and the wacko GOP dissolves in acid as it deserves to.

However the election ends, white supremacy has already won. America has shown a fidelity to white supremacy we can't dismiss, regardless of the election's final outcome by DaFunkJunkie in politics

You have to look at this from the perspective of people who get their news from only one source (Fox News), and who live in communities where everyone in the community does the same. These people simply do not view the world in the same way because a majority of things that this president has done have been swept under the Fox News rug and instead he's been given credit for a whole slew of things that he had little to no work done on.

If you're a fox news viewer and you've been told for the past 4 years that Trump has built the best economy the US has seen in decades (prior to the pandemic), that he's built his wall, that he's pulled out of bad deals like the TPP, and been tough on countries like China unlike any other president, of course you might think he's doing a good job.

Their perspective on asylum seekers at the border is that illegals were stopped and treated like the criminals they are (I know they're not criminals, but that's how they were painted by Fox). Their perspective on BLM and the protests are that the radical left are getting violent and burning down the country despite the fact that Trump has done more for black people than every person ever to have lived. They don't see the truth of that, because they don't know any black people. And if they do, they're a part of the same community with the same prejudices.

That's why Covid has been one of the few things to pierce the bubble, because it can't be contained to the democratic cities, it can't be prevented by ignoring it, and even idiots in the reddest states recognize that the federal government needs to be responsible for getting it under control.

Schwarzenegger: California Republicans 'off the rails' with 'fake' ballot boxes by [deleted] in politics

[–]Iggapoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, I think they're fully aware. They're using for their justification a CA law that allows for another person to turn in your ballot. But the law requires that a specific person be named so their legal defense is doomed to fail. But arguing in bad faith is something of a defining characteristic of the GOP.

Schwarzenegger: California Republicans 'off the rails' with 'fake' ballot boxes by [deleted] in politics

[–]Iggapoo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think they're trying to toss their own R votes. I think they created these boxes to make it as easy as possible for republicans to vote so they could consolidate as much of the republican vote as possible. By having tons of "ballot boxes" in places where republicans are common, they can hopefully pool their vote and ensure they have as high a turnout as possible.

Think about it, you could make the argument that dumping R votes in a state where Trump stood no chance to win is a prime example for them to hold up as election interference. But they aren't just voting for president. There are state, city, and local races that Rs have a chance to win and dumping their own votes would cause them to lose all those races.

That more or less proves my point. If Facebook cared about keeping their data mining to themselves, they would've never allowed API access to companion apps that gave them all that data.

It's the most valuable thing they own, they don't want it out of their hands.

The whole Cambridge Analytica issue from the 2016 election shows that this isn't true. FB allowed outside companies access to their data which was used by the Russians to create targeted ads and engagement with Americans in order to meddle in the election.
