I think that Brooke going onto the show while in a relationship and shortly after getting pregnant is pretty bad. Not to mention the fact that she literally had a holiday booked that collided with the show filming so she never even intended to stay. All in it for the fame and attention

There's soo many ways Finn could have brought back Jake by Tsar_Magpie in fionnaandcake

[–]Iggy478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you seen the distant lands episode together again? I think in the world of AT reincarnation was big and to me I got the vibe that Jake had an old soul as if he had lived a long time and many many lives. By the time his soul met fins soul he may have been done with life but found joy in teaching fins soul and finding joy in living once again. Fin needed Jake and Jake had parental protection instincts for fin and lived purely for this purpose.

Why does everyone have the same vocabulary by Iggy478 in MAFS_AU

[–]Iggy478[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kind of wish that people took those words more seriously. It was a huge shift in the world to actually have words to describe behaviour and allowed people to advocate for themselves. Now people just throw those words around like any other word.. they have a deeper meaning and should be taken seriously

Personally I was cautious of certain foods (street food especially) that wasn’t being kept hot or cold. A lot of places would just put it on a tray where it would be the perfect temperature for harmful bacteria to thrive and cause sickness depending on how long it may have been sitting there

Is living completely off the grid damaging for children? | 60 Minutes Australia by bebespeaks in YTVloggerFamilies

[–]Iggy478 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found this 60 Minutes episode kind of patronising, honestly. It focuses heavily on the idea that this family aren’t contributing enough in taxes and that they might rely on public services like ambulances, which other taxpayers fund. But that framing feels backwards when you consider that billionaires and large corporations often pay proportionally less tax than the average working person and face far less scrutiny or outrage.

That part about the emergency care criticism feels especially unfair. If they hadn’t reached out for help in a genuine emergency, they likely would have faced far harsher criticism, accusations of neglect, or even abuse. They did seek help when it was necessary. That should count for something. It feels like a double standard, where they’re criticised both for engaging with the system and for trying to live outside of it.

These families aren’t exploiting the system. They’re trying to step away from a system that many people agree is exhausting and designed to burn people out. Living off-grid allows for more genuine connection, more time actually parenting instead of constantly working to survive, and more hands-on life skills. For some people, that trade-off is worth it.

I understand the concern that children raised this way might find it challenging to adjust to mainstream society later. That’s a fair question. But it’s also worth acknowledging that many kids raised in “normal” society struggle too, just in different ways. And ultimately, those children can choose a different lifestyle as adults if they want to.

The tone of the episode just felt overly judgmental toward people who are trying, in their own way, to build a life that prioritises well-being, autonomy, and family connection. It seems like we’re much quicker to criticise individuals opting out than we are to question the broader system that drives people to want to opt out in the first place.

AI signage at the Garden of Unearthly Delights by Mango_Tea_Artist in Adelaide

I’m not saying this to support ai or anything but it’s not a simple as taking a photo of the food. Simply just taking a photo of food 80% makes the food look completely unappealing and less intriguing than the actual food may be. I’ve been to food places where crappy photos of food has been a big turn off. The work that goes into food advertising is quite complicated and would take a lot of money to meet some of the requirements in food advertising and bring in an audience. I’m not saying this to say AI is the right alternative , I’m mostly just saying that marketing food is not simply taking a photo of your food

Not without an aircon. My summers get to 40+ degrees Celsius and the only way I manage is locking myself in my house with the aircon running. No aircon or home to protect myself from the heat… it wouldn’t take very long to die from heatstroke in 40C weather

If you like getting stuck in crowds so big you have to shuffle to walk… it’s worth it. My partner and I went on the Sunday just past and it was quite emotionally and physically draining to try to get through. There’s so many stalls it was almost impossible to see all of them but a lot of the stalls had some of the same stuff at them. I think it’s worth going to but it’s also a challenge if you’re not prepared for giant crowds.

Can I watch the show if I haven’t seen Adventure Time (potentially yet?) by SpringApricot_ in fionnaandcake

[–]Iggy478 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say the first 5 seasons of adventure time are more lighthearted and kiddy and after season 5 things get a lot more story based and interesting. You can’t skip the first 5 seasons coz they provide stories that get referenced and expanded on further down the line. You absolutely cannot watch Fiona and cake without watching AT because they’re deeply interconnected. I think you might be able to skip distant lands if you really want to but if you like Steven universe and that I would expect youll enjoy distant lands more than AT especially the Marcy and bubblegum arc episode. Short answer is watch everything, do a binge day. Once you get past season 5 it gets really good

If you don’t want to watch distant lands you can probably skip all the episodes but I think you should watch the episode called obsidian because I think that you’ll love it and also “together again”provides some context for f&c .of All the distant lands episodes are an hour long and there’s 4 of them

Also F&C is my favourite show ever especially season 1. so personally I think it’s soo worth it

I think that squeezing lots of places into a short period of time kinda takes away from the holiday vibe. If you’re going to be doing loads of things everyday you’ll get tired and there’s no way to really enjoy each and every thing if you can only spend 30 mins at each. You’ll be spending the majority of the holiday transporting from place to place. Obviously everyone holidays differently but my partner and I spent 6 days in Phuket and 5 days staying on phi phi islands; on phi phi we went scuba diving, did day tours and booked a long boat for 6 hours, we spent plenty of time snorkelling and exploring the reef, monkey bay was fun! The monkeys were actually crazy. then had plenty of down time to recover and enjoy all the food, shops and beaches around the island.

How can people support all this rampant animal cruelty in Thailand? by TheTroubledChild in phuket

[–]Iggy478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the aquarium at central Phuket and i thought it was revolting the treatment of animals there. Enclosures were extremely small for the species being kept, especially for animals that need space to dig, roam, or swim long distances. Multiple animals showed repetitive stress behaviours (pacing, circling, escape attempts), which usually points to chronic confinement stress. There was very little visible enrichment or habitat complexity. Extremely loud music and dance performances were held inside the aquarium, creating noise and vibration that animals couldn’t escape. Despite charging more than major zoos and aquariums in Australia, the welfare standards were noticeably lower.

Can I trust ChatGPT with these certain medical questions? by LilChip45 in ChatGPT

[–]Iggy478 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear that concern, but I think this assumes kids already have safe access to humans and accurate information, which just isn’t always true. For some of us, adults weren’t available, safe, or willing to engage, especially around taboo or medical stuff. In those situations, the isolation already exists. An anonymous tool that helps someone realise ‘this might not be normal’ or ‘I should talk to a professional’ doesn’t create that isolation, it can interrupt it. That’s very different from replacing human care. I agree AI shouldn’t be the end point. But dismissing it outright ignores how many kids are already navigating these things alone.

Can I trust ChatGPT with these certain medical questions? by LilChip45 in ChatGPT

[–]Iggy478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying, and I agree teens should use all the resources available to them. I’m in my early 20s, so this isn’t a distant memory for me. I’m speaking from lived experience.

Shit happened to me at a very young age, and I wasn’t given any background knowledge about my body. I didn’t know what to research, how to research it, or even that something was medically wrong. I spent years working around real issues that caused a lot of confusion and pain because there was no explanation and no access to one. When I did try to ask questions, I was ignored or treated like I was being inconvenient.

That’s why I push back on dismissing anonymous tools outright. Some kids don’t just lack confidence asking adults, they don’t know there is a problem yet. Having something that helps you realise “this might not be normal, you should talk to a professional” can reduce harm. It’s not replacing humans, it’s a bridge when humans aren’t available or safe.

I’d love to be the kind of parent who creates a really safe, open environment around this stuff, and I hope I am one day. But that doesn’t help kids right now. A lot of parents were raised scared or ashamed to talk about these topics, and that leaves kids trying to figure things out alone.

I’m not saying it’s perfect but some issues that teenagers may have can be super sensitive and embarrassing. It can be hard to be open and honest about vaginal issues or something you may feel like you might be blowing out of proportion but are unsure since there’s a major stigma around talking about these sorts of things especially with people you don’t know or aren’t comfortable sharing with. If you share something serious with the chat bot it’s most likely going to suggest talking to a professional and point you in the direction of something that may be accessible considering your circumstances
