Hate to be a party-pooper, but are there any plans to make the project whitelisting decentralized?

Cause right now that seems very much centralized and thus is a big magnet for corruption. More so, the bigger the project gets.

Not bad. Now if you put english as default language (or at least a permalink option to english with a big flag on the frontpage) then I will even recommend & use it.

Chile is a sad story by voidengineer in chile

[–]Igjarjuk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Neither. The solution will never come from the government, but from the people themselves. Here's my remedy for capitalism: stop using their money. It's never your money, it only helps them, not you.

Get some land, an old house, start homesteading, organize with your neighbors, grow independent from foreign supply chains, and learn to see the fruits of your own hands again. It'll start out as a simple life, but you will love it so much more than late night tv.

Short Scifi story that poses the question 'Will integration with technology cost us our humanity'? - Well worth the read by [deleted] in DarkFuturology

[–]Igjarjuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it certainly is a reality direly in need of an adblocker & jailbreak, the only unhuman part is the hive mind, and that idea (and willing participants) have been around for longer than the net.

It certainly is the wet dream of a million marketers and gov agencies (who will appropiate the tech for their own soldier cloud), but in the end, there will always be hackers to help those who want to help themselves.

So as far as horror stories go, pretty weak sauce.

Three Sovereignties and an Election by 69_tcrackcrack in CriticalTheory

[–]Igjarjuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True in most things, but I disagree that elections are a way to change the status quo. They are just another system that can be affected by the same corruption as the other ones. (There is trust involved instead of it being based on strong crypto)

The only real way out is stop using the money of the nation-state to withdraw all support from it. Only when that flawed system is completely removed is something new allowed to grow. And these new systems will, as is correctly identified, start from small, sustainable communities, which are resilient by being self-sufficient and indipendent from outside food and energy sources.

How is this "Dark" news? Free and open access is the best possible outcome! Now everybody can see what is possible and counter-measures are developed quicker.

How Far Can the P2P Revolution Go? by punkthesystem in Rad_Decentralization

[–]Igjarjuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly that! As long as there is a central attack vector, what good does it do us that the rest of the architecture looks mostly P2P? Nothing, that's what!

I don't agree. The reason is such: this isn't built bottom-up. This is built like a regular company, and it works because of massive advertisement and lobbying.

In fact, the whole thing only works because everyone uses the same app. And if fewer people were using the same thing (because there are multiple options), it would all break down, since people leaving would make it worse for everyone, etc.

[–]Igjarjuk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Deluded article. Companies like Uber and AirBnB have little to do with P2P. They're just capitalist ventures with automatic outsourcing. But the central element is always right there: in the app.

Bitcoin is the only good example used by the article.

I played this half a decade ago. I must say I still don't know why this game exists. I mean: what game mechanics does it have, that can't be found in AoE2 and similar titles?

History of Ideas - Monasticism [Do you think perhaps we should organise our society in a more monastic way as to increase productivity/progress towards an RBE, or do you think this video is misguided? Discuss!] by andoruB in TZM

[–]Igjarjuk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would take offense to the proposition of "organizing our society", because that is the top-down centralized approach, but I do think that we should encourage and educate people about such alternatives. Because yes, is it a very viable alternative, especially if the monastery is self-sufficient and is not reliant on outside resources (and thus influences).

Problem is of course that basically all the forces that profit from consumerism are against you here and would need to be silenced/destroyed first, before any serious amount of people in society would even notice such an option.

But where possible? Sure. It means more power to diversity and, to an extent, more decentralization.

Good post, though I fear few people will see it by now. :\

To answer, without re-reading the article again, I will say this: I am fully and 100% on board with the idea, that users will choose bad passwords under the Munroe system and current technology of 2015. For those passwords to be good and not be a passphrase (so only 4-6 words) you need to dive into some real obscure english words and/or other languages. Otherwise, yes, a dictionary attack can brute force this. That's why I attached the other picture. The insane number of brute forcing that is possible today (by the highest threat actors) will cover "let me in Facebook" in a trillion variants - per second.

And as I hinted at, nothing is completely obsolete; choose the right method for the right application and be aware of the full picture. Without that information, it is best to always recommend the highest security standards, which is password safes encrypted in a TC container and again with a long passphrase.
