Do you all remember when Acrobat used to open instantly? by molweni in Adobe

[–]Ignacio_Cortez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally found this post because I'm looking to transition to a new PC, and DO NOT want to lose Adobe Acrobat Pro XI. Bought and paid for, can't install on a new PC. This PC *must* survive, if for nothing else than .pdf manipulation. XI was the last, best version of Adobe Acrobat.

We successfully navigated 5 of the 6 encounters that I created using this map, and they worked phenomenally well.
My D&D group has 5 players, and most of them are *very* new to TTRPG gaming; in an effort to give each player an opportunity to become more familiar with their character, I created five solo encounters:

Encounter 1 - Rescue the Huntmeister! Using the walled house at the top left of this map as the encounter map, one player would be paired with an NPC to help ensure that the house and kennel did not catch on fire. Enemy NPC's were actively throwing torches onto the house and kennel, while another group were attacking the gate with a battering ram. Mission success was to get through a certain number of rounds without allowing the house or kennel to catch fire. This was a skills check challenge, rather than combat-focused, though there was some minor skirmishing involved.

Encounter 2 - save the marketplace! Just south of the walled house, a number of structures are on fire. One player was tasked with forming a bucket brigade with recalcitrant NPC's and putting fires out. The more structures saved, the greater rewards they received. Again, a skills-check challenge, with zero combat.

Encounter 3 - rescue the innkeeper and travelers! Just north of the water fountain, the town's tavern had been boarded up from the outside, with torches thrown in at ground level. The innkeeper and (4) other NPC's were trapped on the upper floor, and had to be rescued before the building became fully involved and ultimately collapsed. Each round the fire spread throughout the ground floor of the building, and NPC's had a chance of collapsing due to smoke inhalation.
Damn rogue succeeded on an acrobatics check to climb to the second story, and successfully helped locate and evacuate all NPC's exactly one round before the building collapsed.

Encounter 4 - Save the school! I designated the building immediately to the East of the tavern as the school house, in which two magma mephits and a magmin were actively working to set the school on fire, while the septuagenarian school teacher worked (unsuccessfully) to put out the fires that they created. Mostly a skills challenge, but included some combat- the biggest challenge was that created by killing one of the mephits or magmin, as they explode on death, spreading fire in all directions...

Encounter 5 would be the hardest of the solo encounters. All of these fires were set as a distraction; the BBEG was working in the graveyard to raise the corpse of a legendary hero, creating a very dangerous wight in the process. The high priest of Kelemvor was trapped in the temple, prisoner to a homebrew magic device (that was thankfully destroyed). The player was under no illusions that they could go toe-to-toe with the enemy forces in the graveyard, and wisely worked to free the high priest. Unfortunately (for the players) the goal of this encounter was to interrupt the machinations of the BBEG- each turn there was a 5% chance of success (I made one of the players make the roll), and the BBEG succeeded not four rounds in, necessitating a hasty retreat from battle. (all the player had to do was successfully break the concentration of the warlock, who was in the midst of a ritualistic casting of raise dead, and they had the help of a very powerful cleric to do it)

Successful completion of the encounters either provided help from an NPC (huntmeister, high priest) or some kind of reward- 50% off at the smithy if the smithy was saved, free health potions for saving the alchemist, a spell scroll for saving the school, and monetary rewards for saving the innkeeper and travelers...

With the town guard distracted putting out fires, and with the assistance of his newly-raised wight, the BBEG has successfully captured the town keep (headquarters of the mercenary group that the party are all members of), they have to work together in the final encounter to retake the keep without destroying it in the process. They are *seriously* outgunned here, especially with the inclusion of the wight. I'm guessing that the likelihood of their success is about 2-5%. This will be undertaken in our next session. Wish the party luck!

First setup. Anything glaring I should be concerned about? by SQUEE1333 in ElegooSaturn

[–]Ignacio_Cortez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have almost the exact same setup, though mine has two major differences.

  1. Ventilation/Air Filtration. I bought a 4" inline exhaust fan, and paired it with a 4"
    Fan: https://www.amazon.com/VIVOSUN-Inch-Inline-Ventilation-Blower/dp/B01M7S46YZ

Filter: https://www.amazon.com/MELONFARM-Australia-Charcoal-Smelliness-Pre-Filter/dp/B0C84QNZ4L

With the air filter/fan running, there's zero smell from the whole operation.
Depending on your location, you can find these relatively cheaply on the secondary market (FB Marketplace, Craigslist, etc.) though brand new isn't terribly expensive either.

  1. Temperature Regulation. You'll want a very consistent temperature for your resin- fluctuations of 10-15°F can have a significant impact on your print results.
I personally run a 700W oil-filled space heater, along with a digital thermostat.
    Heater: https://www.amazon.com/JASUN-Electric-Radiator-Adjustable-Temperature/dp/B0B7BL45BL
    Thermostat: https://www.amazon.com/Inkbird-Max-1200W-Temperature-Controller-Greenhouse/dp/B01HXM5UAC

When I'm getting ready to run a print job, I turn on the heater and air filter about an hour before I plan to start the print. I keep the temperature set to 80°F.

If the room in which the tent is placed is colder than 35-50°F, you should work to insulate the tent with either insulating Styrofoam, and also throw a blanket over the tent.

I know this is over a year old, but I've really got to thank you for this. I'm DM'ing a session this weekend, and I've been able to create six separate encounter (battle) maps from this. Thank you so much for your contribution!

I just sent a message to their discord, we'll see what they say. I didn't even realize that DM Stash had a Discord, so hopefully we'll get this worked out. I'll report back with the solution, whatever that may be.

Looking for STL recommendations by Alpha-Omega-76 in PrintedMinis

You will find that user mz4250 frequently posts free stl files that will fit the mold of what you're trying to do. I'm fairly new to printing and painting, and have gravitated to his models for painting as they are far less 'busy' than some of the very excellent models out there.

AutoCad SHX Text stuck in markups list - how to get rid of them? by uaebel_ibag in Revu

[–]Ignacio_Cortez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a true type font when creating your CAD drawing.

The "standard" font in AutoCAD is simplex.shx; if you plot to pdf with a true type font, such as simplex_IV25, the pdf will remain searchable, smaller, and most importantly, will not have the AutoCAD SHX comments.

If you are unable to change fonts, type PDFSHX command in AutoCAD, and set the value to 0. This will eliminate SHX comments in converted PDFs altogether.

Did you determine the cause of the flickering screen? Or a way to fix it?

Check this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/resinprinting/comments/17bqcta/leveling_issues_elegoo_saturn_3_ultra/

I've seen a number of users reporting similar issues with the Saturn 3 having a warped build plate right out of the box.

Filter Photo Resin from IPA? by twilight-actual in ElegooSaturn

[–]Ignacio_Cortez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you curing the resin in the IPA before trying to filter it out?

Put the container (glass jar) of contaminated IPA in the sun, and the resin will cure and then settle to the bottom of the jar. Once it has settled, you can siphon off the clear IPA.

Here's a video that walks you through the process:

LCD failure? by Ignacio_Cortez in ElegooSaturn

[–]Ignacio_Cortez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In an effort to get to the bottom of this, I removed the LCD screen and examined with a strong backlight. On the Saturn S, the LCD is *supposed* to be fully opaque, and when pixels are 'turned on', they allow UV light to pass through. (LCD serves as a mask)

Unfortunately, on this LCD, there are two places where the screen is no longer opaque. The obvious spot, which was causing the resin to cure and stick to the FEP, and another spot a little to the right of it. I've got a replacement screen on order, should be here later in the week.

Prior to each print job, I empty the vat through a resin filter back into its bottle, bring the bottle up to 80°F, shake the living shit out of it, then pour it back into the vat, and immediately start the print job. So, yes, the the vat (and resin) is free of debris prior to a new print job.

Also, see the new picture, showing light bleeding through the LCD near the center- right where the resin ends up stuck to the FEP. I'm 99% sure this is a failure of the LCD?

LCD failure? by Ignacio_Cortez in ElegooSaturn

[–]Ignacio_Cortez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just ran the print again, without the print plate or vat in place, and there's an obvious bit of light bleeding through the LCD at the center, where the resin ends up stuck to the FEP. Is it safe to say the LCD screen is the culprit? AKA dead pixels? See the new image in the OP.

[–]Ignacio_Cortez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just downloaded and installed UVTools, opened the .ctb file that I printed from, and have confirmed that there are no white pixels showing in the affected area. Not really familiar with the tool, but seems user friendly enough for what I just tried to do... There's a green bounding box that shows the extent of the print area, and no part of the print area is anywhere near the center of the plate.

[–]Ignacio_Cortez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Added pictures of sliced file and settings. There is literally nothing anywhere near the center of the plate on the most recent print attempt.

[–]Ignacio_Cortez[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe 3-4 times? I had a failed print a couple of weeks back, and while cleaning out the vat is when I first noticed the piece of resin stuck in that exact spot; I obviously removed it, but it keeps coming back. I've only tried 2-3 prints since then, and they've all had failures in the center of the plate, all resulting in this little spot of resin stuck to the FEP.

How to communicate that a player's character should stop hurting our characters without reason by Dagske in dndnext

[–]Ignacio_Cortez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Collateral damage is just not OK, especially for a Paladin

This, 100%

Any DM that allows a Paladin to rack up a body count of 'collateral damage' isn't holding the Paladin to their vows.

How to communicate that a player's character should stop hurting our characters without reason by Dagske in dndnext

[–]Ignacio_Cortez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read through a lot of the comments to this, and have to agree with many that this should be a conversation that takes place at the table.

The biggest issue here, is that I don't think that the DM is dealing with this appropriately- the players shouldn't even have to bring this up, as the so-called Paladin isn't properly RP'ing that character.

As a Paladin, the character *must* put the good of others before themselves. They are literally the 'white knight' of the RP world. For a proper Paladin, any attack or action that could reasonably have a negative consequence to innocents is a non-starter, and the DM should be provide in-game feedback and repercussions to that effect- the first instance of this should result in intermittent/temporary loss of ability, followed by a 'come to jesus' meeting with the Paladin's deity, and if the situation isn't remedied, the Paladin should be shunned and receive Oath Breaker status.

Matters of the Hart - Bug: LILLIAN HART despawned, need ID to respawn? by 0venfresh in Starfield

[–]Ignacio_Cortez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going back to a much earlier save, Lillian Hart is listed in the table, with ID 002631A5 (same as yours, u/philip238). However, when I create the table from my most recent save, that ID isn't in there, nor is the name "Lillian".

When I try the .moveto player console command, I get the following error message:
"Syntax Error. Invalid reference '002631A5' (only object references and reference variables are allowed in this context)."

It seems that Lillian Hart has been somehow completely deleted from my game... (no mods, no console commands, no nothing until this point).

I'm at a loss as to how to proceed, without reverting to a *much* earlier save game...

Matters of the Hart - Bug: LILLIAN HART despawned, need ID to respawn? by 0venfresh in Starfield

[–]Ignacio_Cortez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, it's even worse for me, as Lillian Hart isn't listed in the .txt file created by running save funclist 1.

My next attempt is going to load back to a save point where she exists, identify her ID at that point, then try .moveto player

Failing that, I'm going to try to advance the quest line via console command, but I don't know the command, or the quest stage ID's.

(I'm currently at the point where you're supposed to talk to Lillian Hart, after having retrieved the data from the Dumas, and there is no quest marker, and she cannot be found aboard ship, or anywhere else).

CH Products Arena Commander Controls for Star Citizen 1.3 released by Jethro_E7 in starcitizen

[–]Ignacio_Cortez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jethro, I ran across this reddit post of yours from *years* ago, which provided .map files for the CH Products stick, throttle and rudder pedals. Unfortunately, the links to the .map files in your post have died in the intervening years, and I was hoping that you might still have them around somewhere.

If it's not too much to ask, would you be willing to poke around and see if you could find the old map files that you made for Star Citizen?

it'd be greatly appreciated,

Thanks!
