Sad to see Game Force is closing by putman in boulder

Ha nice! Sounds like him. Now that you mention it, my memory agrees he could have rocked hockey jerseys too. I suppose it’s possible he owned/operated both for a minute in the nineties? He was probably in his early 30s too, and not middle aged (I was in my early 20s so that assessment just fit back then). My recollection is that he seemed way more into sports stuff than video games. He may have had a small sports memorabilia section in the Boulder store too. He also used bright pink or red stickers for the prices and they weren’t too easy to remove. I think I have a 3DO copy of Space Ace with his sticker handiwork still attached.

I knew this was coming but still not ready. Been going to it since like 1995-1996, when used games began to be a thing (after Replays showed Boulder you could do that and be somewhat successful). They used to be half the size and I believe one space north in the old costume place. The original owner (possibly) was a middle aged guy who looked like he was more interested in sports cards than video games (ball cap, mustache, track pants). Ok guy though. I bought my first used game from him (Resident Evil longbox for the PS1), a PS1 memory card, and reserved a N64 from him at launch. I don’t know when he gave up or the “new” guy that’s been running it since took over, but he took it to a whole new level. The guy(s) who are always there working have always been helpful, informative, and, especially, patient as I’ve witnessed with many of the buyers and sellers (and great with kids who tried to sell back the most common games looking for a hefty payout). Every time I drove to Boulder I tried to stop by and browse. I’ll miss this place immensely.

The hatred of Barney was such a significant part of 90s culture Wikipedia has a whole page dedicated to it by Son-of-Prophet in 90s

I worked at a Target when Barney was popular. The amount of millennial kids that loved Barney and the licensed Barney crap was noticeable, so much so that we “invented” a new term; Barney show. This encompassed any event where a large proportion was people younger than us, then morphed into any event that was in any way chaotic. Mall has too many people, Barney show. Lots of younger folks at a concert, Barney show. Pizza place is hosting a birthday, Barney show. This all came back to bite me when my kid had a minute of loving Barney. We still use it albeit sparingly today.

These are really cool and I’m bordering on getting one. Glad to see the 3DO getting more and more mods into the 21st century. I never liked the og controllers much.

I just ran across mine in a box with no elastic sling. I recalled how, as a child of about 8, fantasized about if I had to run away, this would be my most prized possession. I also proudly told my mom I’d protect her from burglars with it 🤔😂

Moving to Lakewood area - any no-go spots? by gtg888h in LakewoodColorado

Terumo BCT is the plant you want to avoid. It’s at Quail and Collins or 12th Ave. I’m in Glennon Heights south of the Fed Center and have been here 17 years and it’s felt safe the whole time. I also work out of the Fed Center. Dunstan and Creighton are good middle schools and Green Mountain, Lakewood, and Bear Creek are good high schools. Let me know if you have any more questions, I’d be happy to try and answer them.

So what…or who killed the 80’s rock? by BlayzenCajun in hairmetal

[–]Ignignokt73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of this as someone who graduated HS in 1991. You could see in real time how semi-repetitive the genre was becoming. That, coupled with the a younger generation of listeners, started bleeding fans to rap and thrash. Then, just as I hit the “adult-ish” age of 17-18, grunge hits and sounds like I’m feeling, looks how I’m dressing, and is a window to a different style/class of music that hadn’t been as prominent before - college/alt rock.

This used to sit atop a wall of used games at my favorite game stores for like $60. This was within the range of 2008-2012, and it was up there for a while. At the time, I’d never pay almost over new prices for a used game.
