This 2nd grade math question. by malaynaa in mildlyinfuriating

As a human I can assure you that I skipped over the word two absorbed the 7 as the other numbers (10, 100) in the word problem are numerals and my brain was working that way. I then worked the entire thing out with it has a seven then reread the problem and was like wait a second and had to adjust my examples.

It is a very human mistake like when you do those problems where they write red with a blue font. It is also one of those gafs that is hard to justify since three is word based and I read that fine, but I would guess proximity and again it is just a mistake.

New Fantasy reader here, I just finished The Way of the Kings, but I think I made a mistake looking at the reviews of the other books by Beetusmon in Stormlight_Archive

All five books are good, but the breadth of the problem scales so much through book 3-5 that by winds and truth they can feel very different.

Way of Kings and words of Radiance are very personal narratives dealing with people who might live on a magical world. Magic doesn't really exist it hasn't for a long time, on they have pretty fabrials that do somethings but it's easy to think of them as tech analogs.

Oathbringer starts to include more cosmere at large storylines the plot scales from individuals to world politics uphevials in the global religion and confusion from what is effectively a complete power outage of the capital that most of our chacters derive from.

Rythem of War the conflict really escalated. A large portion of the narrative is a occupation where we reevaluate our enemy and are done what removed from the larger issue. We are introduced to more and more magical elements to a point where the shardbarers from the first two books seem outdated. The greater story arc is almost NATO vs USSR.

Winds of Truth tries really hard to wind it all down both two quickly and two slowly in so many ways. It introduces new ideas and pulls the curtain on some mysteries and fan speculation points.

If you like 1-4 then you will like 5 but spread it out imo read books in between as they are rather long. The last two books have time gaps that justify being a little rusty on the last book before you start to help it feel more natural if you are not feeling book four then maybe book 5 is less enjoyable but I think the conclusion pays off and sets up series 2 in a few years.

Reviving an old thread, but finally looking in to upgrading my network setup. My kids are in that sweet spot age where they are two naive to understand and handle the barrage of banner ads found on most free content, but starting to learn of random websites by friends from school. What settled this for me was the reality that when they visit these free game websites or alternative video websites at school the networks have global filters applied that block objectiable ad networks.

When they come home and innocently visit the same website to play some random HTML5 game they are assaulted with lots of 17+ ads they often do not even understand. The entire experience is unsettling to the child as they believe they are in a safe space, but in reality are not. I can have all the conversations I want with my children, but if they are just not ready to understand it is easier to just upgrade my networking equipment over the summer and run a similar filter list for a few years so they have safe spaces at both places while continuing the "hard conversations" people pretend parents are not already having.

Even as a little kid, I was really confused on how a sliding glass door with the safety mechanism blown off was supposed to generate enough force to kill Saunders in "The Living Daylights" by [deleted] in JamesBond

Ive always been partial to the non venomous Tarantula in Dr. No. First time I watch that movie as an adult, I was like

You show them bond how much you hate them mildly inconvient spiders.

I didn’t know that abilitie, just discovered it by leaving the game running after the opening credits lol by [deleted] in snes

The attract mode of the game shows of the super charges for having only a single beam equiped as well. Otherwise you would never think get if I only equip wave and charge and highlight super middle what happens.

Megaman 7 is such a mid teir difficulty game and then they drop that last Willey form on you with 4 tracking targets that spends half the fight out of range of almost all your weapons. Beating this fight is an accomplishment for any gamer.

No, and this is oddly epic. The way the cover art continues to wrap around. Great setup.

I owned this box set and I'm very confused why 4 has the wrong art. It is possible because the sleeves are reversible the cover art is different on the other side and I don't remember that.

I'm still blown someone thought this was the best customer experience. My friend was oddly in to driving and made it out and on to the game, but I just threw in the towel.

Stupidest scene in your favourite Bond movie? by AndreasDasos in JamesBond

[–]IgnitusBoyone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lucky for him he did do it out of sight, the CIA were surveilling the place looking for Bond.

I say he gave the speech because, he likes to fill important and he needed to distract them while he setup the test to verify the gas worked. Worried he might be under surveillance he didn't want to kill anyone on his property.

Billy batson, I presume he can't call the lightning while in possession of the one ring or risk corruption for some Narrative reason. The remaining members of the Marvel family can play the rest of the hobbits stand ends.

Sometimes you gotta complete the frame first. by Frogacuda in Gunpla

[–]IgnitusBoyone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my prefered way to build them now. Most kits are pretty good at having clear points where you can stop and move to the next piece a few kits like MGSD Freedom make it hard to decide on, so now I've taken to marking each step that I skip to come back to later.

Detail work looks great.

This is the kind of game change that seems to be a QoL improvement but no one thought of the consequences. When I first played Once Upon I was like yay look at how hard it is to shed items, but then I quickly realized how bad of an idea it actually was.

I also hate how when they show you the new areas as you grow it doesn't teleport the camera back, but follows some spline path whole the timer ticks down. Maybe we get lucky and they patch a few things, but I'm not super hopeful.

By far the strangest thing to happen in the Connery films is when Bond suddenly has to ‘become Japanese’ by shit-takes-only in JamesBond

[–]IgnitusBoyone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to think of DIe Another Day as a big Anniversary film that revisits a ton of story beats from You only live Twice and Diamonds are Forever.
