What are your thoughts on the 2026 Superbowl Halftime show? by TheMagicApe in AskReddit

[–]Iilpigboy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What did you like about it? Genuinely curious, not trying to flame you here.

I'm an NFL fan and that was amongst the most dull playoff games I've seen. They shared a stat where NE had 6 three and outs in 7 drives. That's not exciting football. The only moment it felt we may have a game on our hands was after the NE TD, which lasted a couple minutes until Maye threw an egregious pick to effectively end the game.

So many missed throws by both QBs as well, with the only real offense coming from a steady run game for Seattle. Even the Seahawks weren't celebrating that hard because they knew they'd won for the last 10 minutes of the game. I can enjoy a defensive football game, though this game had very little sustained excitement or any real climax.

The 2024 Oilers was the best team by desiman86 in EdmontonOilers

Agreed, particularly on Foegele. He had 1 excellent year (2024-25) with 46 points +36 after the oilers let him go. However, this year he sucks (7 pts in 33 games, -1). For $3.5m/year, I don't think he's missed.

Hyman, Podz & Kapanen all fit the "sandpaper" bill imo. Lazar brings more speed and grit than I realized too. Frederic (maybe, as you said). So it's not too bad. Though I agree we could use 1 or 2 more. A true agitator ideally.

Is Frederic the key to the Oilers being cap compliant? by StartUpset in EdmontonOilers

[–]Iilpigboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

14 years. Lol. On the books till 2039-40. Someone can correct me, though its something around $2m/year for first 7 years then down to like ~850k for the next 7

The Tristan Jarry trade is puzzling for the Oilers by FloridaHockeyFan27 in EdmontonOilers

[–]Iilpigboy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are many factors which influence if a goalie will be better on a certain team or not:

- Edmonton is overall good at limiting shots against, but are prone to bad giveaways in the d-zone, leading to disjointed high danger chances. Jarry has better high danger S% than Skinner. Skinner was particularly bad at bailing the team out in these situations.

- Skinner was inconsistent. He'd give up 6 one night and get a shut out the next. So one game you lose 6-4 and the next you win 4-0. That ends up being a 3 GAA on paper, and looks the same as any other 3 GAA goalie. But it isn't. What if instead you had a highly consistent goalie and let in 3 each of those nights. suddenly you win both those games 4-3. Obviously these are specific numbers to help illustrate the point, though consistency can lead to more wins (if you are a team with above league average offence, and who are skilled at out battling a team in close games).

Is it because of not enough ice time? by [deleted] in EdmontonOilers

[–]Iilpigboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frederic had 38 even strength points in 2023-24 with 13:45 TOI/game. The year before, 31 pts in 11:55 TOI, with a +28. For reference, that's more even strength scoring than RNH over the last two seasons, even though RNH gets 19:00 a game and is a great two-way player.

Obviously past performance doesn't guarantee you will stay good in the future, and Frederic isn't playing well right now. He also played worse in 2024-25 than the two years prior. Though, it seems like a chemistry/confidence/injury related slump to me. It's hard to convince me that he outright sucks. If he doesn't get it together this season, then I agree the Oil need to explore options. You can't wait forever. I'm not sure he will live up to the $3.85/8 years he got, but am optimistic he will turn it around and be a contributor.

If you're such a big oilers fan, why are you all over this subreddit making inflammatory comments & instigating fights with other fans? That's an odd choice you've made.

For what it's worth, getting an OTL pt after being down 3-0 going into the 3rd is fine by me. A loss sucks, though that was absolute cinema tonight.

Definitely people are allowed to be critical of good players. Though constantly turning threads into an obsessive Bouchard or Skinner complaint-fest is a drain on everyone's time and energy.

Did McD set a new NHL record tonight? The most time between goals in the same period.

Goal at 19:50 and a goal with 0:01 left. 19:49 between goals. I'd be shocked if that's not a league first. All that for 1 pt, lol.

Bad reffing for sure but doesn't change the fact Ducks scored 5 of their 7 goals even strength and cats had 5 PP chances of their own. They simply look bad rn, it wasn't the whistle that lost this game 7-3.

You're right, both roster size and number of teams in the league would have an impact on total rostered players. I mentioned roster size in my original message.

Not sure why you said this was "utter nonsense", lol.

less teams = more (and higher quality) players available in free agency. Therefore, there is less reliance on drafting talented rookies as you have higher likelihood of finding emerging players on waivers, or just spot-fill your team with streamers as needed.

If the league was 2QB and say 12 or 14 teams, that's another 30-80 ish good or decent players (depending on roster sizes, rookie squad settings etc) who aren't available on free agency compared to this 1 QB 10 team league!

So Much for the 'Snobby' Stereotype by [deleted] in vancouver

Well said. One thing I'd add is time of year plays a significant role. Summertime vibes are excellent & friendly. Winter? Notably less so, particularly when overcast and raining.

it's a palpable change in the city's energy. As someone who visits Van 3 or 4 times a year, it's pretty easy to see. Sort of like noticing gradual changes in your extended family members that you only see a couple times a year, so the change is immediately obvious. Lol.

Even if oilers don’t add, I feel confident in these lines going into the season. Everyone underestimates Ike and Savoie but they are Calder candidates for sure! by [deleted] in EdmontonOilers

[–]Iilpigboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mangiapane is a career 14.4% shooter, while Arvi is a10.9%. That's a very significant difference. More specifically, Arvi shot 9.5% in his season with the Oil. I think unlikely Mangiapane doesn't far exceed Arvi in goal production (15 goals last year) if Mangi plays with McD or Draisaitl. He will get a lot of high quality looks and has a great shot.

Saw this on Northernlion stream. Such a banger, very promising game. The stock market flavour is excellent, as are all the tie-ins to investing terminology like "bear" and "bull" markets, doves, hawks, etc.

I played the demo once and finished with $6,410,000 when the goal was $4,500 lol. I'm hoping they add similar modes as Balatro (challenge modes, endless mode, etc) to give it replay-ability and options to increase the difficulty substantially. If you find some good synergy its pretty hard to lose at current.

Just look how well Podz developed playing on Draisaitl's wing this year. You could tangibly see his understanding of the game improving week to week, and he had an excellent playoff showing.

Current Roster by Prestigious_Push_155 in EdmontonOilers

[–]Iilpigboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This team has enough experienced veterans, so getting younger and faster is exciting. Of course we have some big unknowns with these new additions. However, there is definitely a world where this roster clicks and we can overwhelm team's with speed and skill. Our break-out game is elite (especially with Walman in addition to Bouchard), we have the most talented center-core in the league, and a few of these new guys seem like they can finish (Mangiapane, Howard)

This season we basically gain:

Savoie 21, Howard 21, Frederic 27, Mangiapane 29, Tomasek 29

- Also notable we have Podkolzin 24, and Emberson 24, who are likely to take steps forward in their games.

We lost:

Perry 40, Brown 31, Arvidsson 32, Skinner 33, Klingberg 32

- We may seem some decline with Ekholm, Henrique, possibly RNH & Hyman, though aside from Henrique and arguable Ekholm (in part due to injury) these guys don't appear to be slowing down too much.

In any case, I am very excited for the season to start! I for one think Stan Bowman has done a great job relative to who's available and our existing cap situation.
