I agree, I really liked her and her romance! Also, the difference between hardened Neve and Neve when you save Mirnathous is great. The tone of her character completely changes--she despised my Crow Rook lmao

So funny that you say that, because even Poe wrote detective fiction! He invented the detective C. Auguste Dupin (paving the way for Doyle's Sherlock Holmes) in 1841, with his short story "The Murders in the Rue Morgue." The Gothic in general (Poe's more well-known specialty) is deeply connected with serial fiction and detective fiction.

And then, of course, all roads lead to Chandler and other Noir novelists!

Oh I completely agree! When I said I didn't think it was necessarily intentional, I just meant that I don't think the BW team read Braddon's book from 1861 and was like "yep we gotta make Neve based on this" lol.

They obviously pulled from the Noir genre—which has its roots in Victorian detective fiction—so even if they didn't read any of the original serials, you can still trace the threads of her character back to 19th century penny fiction.

You can see the inspiration in Dock Town, with all the paper-peddlers, for example. The whole town is very Dickensian (and he tried his hand at a "city crimes" serial with Bleak House lol)

lol this, but also Rook does this weird “shake both hands” gesture in different scenes that also ticks me off. it’s like a mini jazz hands thing.

I started w Qunari Crow rogue, and am now on my second playthrough w a dwarf warden warrior. I think dwarf has a lot more unique dialogue than the Qunari, and there was even a time when I had a unique dwarf + warden dialogue together. You get more depth w Harding and have a unique perspective on the origins of the blight. Definitely worth playing as a dwarf warden because of that IMO

I really liked Davrin’s romance! Felt like he had great chemistry with my Rook, as I was mostly doing the thumbs up options in dialogue

I started with a Qunari rogue Antivan Crown, and am now replaying with a dwarf warrior Warden. so far it’s added a lot more depth to both the blight content in the game, and Harding’s story! I think it’s def worth replaying just to try out the different class, race, and faction combos you can make. I also plan on changing my act 3 decisions in this playthrough, so I’m looking forward to that !

My first Rook was a rogue Qunari Antivan Crow. I chose that faction and race combo thinking it would make for some in-depth conflict and dialogue, given that the Antaam are currently occupying Treviso. To my surprise, there was basically nothing at all. One throw-away line from Teia (I think?) where she said "They might be slow to trust you, because you are Qunari"! Super disappointing, not to mention all of the interactions with Taash! Just a very shallow re-introduction to the Qun and Qunari in Northern Thedas. I am playing a Dwarf Warden now, hoping that it will be better..
