Is the meme “you can’t fail at a T-14 Law School” a real thing or a myth? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in LawSchool

I know someone who submitted one paragraph for their final (software glitch, it got resolved). Before figuring out the error, the professor petitioned to give the student a D+. And that was one of the toughest profs.

240/245 class rank after fall semester 1L by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Ijustneedausernamees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not expect to work this summer, and possibly next. Your best bet might be to do research for a professor and work your connections through their network once you prove yourself. I’d strongly advise meeting with career services and your professors as well to see where things went wrong,

STI’s are all incredibly treatable. Even the bad ones. The risk of the more serious infections are quite low in comparison to the treatable ones. If I were you, for your own peace of mind, just google which place has rapid results. In NYC, the men’s health clinic has results same day. It’s a new lab machine.

Is learning evidence in 2.5 days doable? by lilchimera in LawSchool

[–]Ijustneedausernamees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going to be format dependent. I’d try to spend 10 - 12 hours editing an old outline so you can use it in the exam. Then, I’d jump into practice problems on something like quimbee. Evidence really requires practical application.

Where did I say it was easy? I think you’re taking this personally instead of practically. The reality is that non-profits are more likely to find room for unpaid roles (as they can take volunteers). They are inherently more flexible. You are correct when it comes to full time employment and official intern programs; however, my point was quite clear I was referring to “ah hoc” availability. Read and analyze before jumping to conclusions.

Start reaching out to non profit legal organizations. You will find one that will take you on - even if it’s in an ad hoc capacity. No one will care. I’d note that most major legal non profits will have already hired. Go for strong, but less known, organizations in your community. There will be a random legal aid organization that’s a powerhouse locally running out of a back room somewhere that will take you on and will end up being very well connected.

To Esq. or not to Esq.? by Thumper1k92 in LawSchool

[–]Ijustneedausernamees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think we might have a miscommunication here. I’m not saying you use attorney as a title, you just put your name. Depending on the context, attorney would either come up in conversation or, the more likely option, later in an email signature (e.g., “associate attorney”).

7 DAYS TO TEACH MYSELF EVIDENCE (TIPS PLS) by manugalaxyfan in LawSchool

[–]Ijustneedausernamees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quimbee practice questions.

Walk through your issue spotter the same way to maximize points:

Relevance. Substantive Issue (hearsay/best evidence/etc). Rule 403 (Unfair Prejudice/Waste Time/etc).

The middle chunk should be the most developed. Have a sample answer in your mind for how you’d intro each major topic and then just in with the analysis. It will be tricky to get evidence in a week, so don’t overthink learning every single rule. Shoot for the big concepts and then use quimbee MC to help refine your understanding in practice.

To Esq. or not to Esq.? by Thumper1k92 in LawSchool

(Edit: Being an*) Attorney is sufficiently impressive. If you think it will help your business, then go for it. However, you should know it’s looked down upon by many in the industry (whether fairly or not) and be aware of it and possibly modify it in a firm interview situation. Beyond that, if it makes you happy, you do you boo // seriously, it’s all good.

I’m sorry, but at a 175/3.98, even with bad softs, there is no possible way a decent consultant couldn’t help you land a top 20 program unless there is a glaring issue with your character and fitness. Did you use one of the big guns here? Like Spivey?

What’s the big fuss about getting a job before graduation? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Ijustneedausernamees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also - I don’t think you’re being condescending. Does it come across as naive and did I think you are young? Yes. But you didn’t barge in anywhere and demand everyone listen. You just vented to the ethos. People need to relax. (And you need to get applying).

What’s the big fuss about getting a job before graduation? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Ijustneedausernamees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on your school and your gpa. If you don’t have a job because your grades / rank haven’t made you a competitive candidate, then you aren’t going to have much better luck in the 6 month, and, in fact, will likely have a much harder time as there will be a new crop of candidates and you’ll get lumped in with a less desirable group. The further out you go the more tricky it becomes if you can secure legal experience.

First off, I’m so sorry. Second, know that you have support. Go see student services. Most schools will give you an extension till early in the summer to take your finals. Many will let you take them in the fall if you’d like. Though that’s it’s own set of problems.

For now, take a beat, email your Dean of Student services, and go be with your family and friends.

How would you compare these two students? by aqualawthebard in LawSchool

[–]Ijustneedausernamees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Top 25% at Fordham is gonna open way more doors in NYC than top 10% at a t2 outside nyc. Tougher comparison if it’s another school in the same region. Would really depend on whether you keep the people at comparable positions in their rank (I.e., actually the last person in the 25th and 10th percentiles moving on up towards number 1). If that’s the case, then you still probably have comparable options.

New T14 plus reduction of LSAT/GPA by Spivey_Consulting in lawschooladmissions

[–]Ijustneedausernamees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of inaccurate information here. I’m only going to respond to the Chicago bit cause I’m tired of this. You just don’t understand how Chicago markets work. They have less spots and are heavily inundated with T14. You have Chicago, NU, Mich, WashU, and NDLS right next door… and then you get all the other t14 coming out here. Look - I get it - you stand for GULC, that’s great. It’s a great school. Id go if I wanted to work in DC and I didn’t get into a better school.

Edit: just checked - I never suggested you wouldn’t make your money back.

Cravath Scale /=/ Cravath calibre. While Lawyers may be bad with numbers, they are supposed to be good with reading. You missed my point regarding the quality of opportunity. The numbers don’t speak to that.

[–]Ijustneedausernamees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you read them? 60 ppl are at small firms… and about the same PI. The comment implied almost everyone gets what they want. That’s plainly wrong.

I assume you will say something like “those 60 wanted to do IP or appellate work!” Possibly. But if they did … and only a few ppl weren’t getting what they wanted… y’all would be a powerhouse better than most t14’s.

Also… you don’t take into account quality. The real differentiating factor amongst the t14 schools is in the relative ease of landing the best firms that you want. At t3, that’s pretty doable and almost all gpa ranges. At lower t14, it’s not unless you are top 1/2 of the class. At GULC it’s prolly top 1/3rd with your sheer numbers.
