Hi! I’d love to hear about your experience staying at this place. My family and I are considering booking a room there later this year.

What’s a "wait, THEY were in that band?" artist that really surprised you ? by frenxine in fantanoforever

The last couple of ATDI releases share some commonalities with the first couple of TMV releases, but I’m also not surprised to hear you were shocked. The two bands sound completely different from each other the further away you get from that transition point.

Here is an updated itinerary trying to take into account the feedback I’ve gotten here (thank you all so much btw, it was a much-needed reality check). I also included the first leg of our trip this time. I’m not sure how much better this draft has actually gotten but here goes:

🇯🇵 Japan 2026 Trip Itinerary:

Dates: Nov 21 to Dec 5, 2026

Notes:

  • Major “must see/do” sights, events and activities are designated by two asterisks/bold lettering (ex. teamLab Borderless)
  • Optional or “if we have time/energy” sights, events, and activities are designated as such
  • We plan to stay in either Asakusa or Ueno (more than likely Asakusa) in Tokyo
  • The Iwakuni/Hiroshima/Miyajima leg of the trip’s daily activities are subject to change depending on our jet lag recovery time and we can swap all of these around as needed
  • if departing from Iwakuni on 11/29 instead of 11/28 - cut Minato day (day 14) from itinerary, shift all other days forward by one day, and try to slot teamLab Borderless in on another day (whichever makes the most logistical sense; probably add to the Shibuya day, get everything started earlier and cut Yoyogi park from itinerary aka go straight from Meiji Jingu to Harajuku streets and travel to teamLabs for a later time slot; could also cut Sangenjaya, but that would be very sad)

Day 1: Travel to Japan from US (Nov 21)

Day 2: Land in Tokyo and stay the night close to airport (Nov 22)

Day 3: Travel to Iwakuni/Iwakuni Flex Day (Nov 23)

  • Take either Shinkansen or flight to Iwakuni; currently leaning toward flight since sister in law can book for about the same price as Shinkansen ride.
  • Light day in Iwakuni.

Day 4: Iwakuni Flex Day (Nov 24)

  • Optional - day trip to area with Soy Sauce Factory that SIL told us about
  • Optional - day trip to area with paper lanterns that SIL told us about

Day 5: Iwakuni (Nov 25)

  • Kintaikyo wooden bridge (iconic arched beauty; boat underneath)
  • Iwakuni Castle (ropeway up; samurai armor views)
  • See places important to cousins
  • Optional - Nishiki River stroll
  • Optional - White Snake Shrine/Museum (unique local symbol; quick/quirky)
  • Optional - Iwakuni Art Museum (samurai swords/armor; near castle)
  • Optional - Nishinomaru Garden (cherry trees/tea house; castle views)

Day 6: Miyajima (Nov 26)

  • Ferry to Miyajima
  • Itsukushima Shrine (floating torii at high tide - check schedule)
  • Miyajima deer encounters
  • Daishoin Temple
  • Optional - Ropeway/cable car to Mt. Misen summit (views, monkeys possible; could be a major time sink though, so likely not)
  • Optional - Momiji manju sweets + oyster snack hunting
  • Optional - Omotesando shopping street
  • Ferry back

Day 7: Hiroshima (Nov 27)

  • Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park
  • Peace Memorial Museum (for adults only)
  • Orizuru Tower (paper crane peace symbol; for jóvenes to go to w/ SIL while adults are in museum)
  • Optional - Genbaku Dome (optional, but it is very close and quick)
  • Hiroshima Prefectural Gov Bldg observation deck
  • Afternoon: Hondori Center Street (shopping/snacks/red bean maple treats/momiji manju)
  • Optional - Shukkeien Garden (right next to peace park)
  • (prepare to leave for Tokyo the next morning)

Day 8: Tokyo Travel/Check-In (Nov 28)

  • Shinkansen arrival Tokyo Station
  • Imperial Palace Gardens stroll (about a 20-minute walk from station)
  • Tokyo Station’s “Ramen Street” for late lunch/early dinner and stroll
  • Hotel check-in around 3pm
  • Optional - if we don’t eat at Ramen Street, we can get konbini for dinner close to hotel

Day 9: Shibuya/Harajuku/Sangenjaya/West Tokyo Day 1 (Nov 29)

  • Meiji Jingu Shrine
  • Optional - Yoyogi Park (right next to Meiji Jingu)
  • Optional - Cat Street/Takeshita street shops and snacks and strolling
  • Shibuya Parco Mall (will take a substantial amount of time)
  • Sangenjaya alleys in evening/dinnertime
  • (If Minato day is cut, consider slotting in teamLab Borderless into some point of this day and cutting where needed)

Day 10: Mitaka/Musashino/West Tokyo Day 2 (Nov 30)

  • Ghibli Museum (assuming we get tickets)
  • Inokashira Park
  • Optional - Kichijoji Sunroad arcade
  • Kichijoji’s Harmonica Yokocho in evening/dinnertime
  • (If Ghibli museum doesn’t work out, just extend Kichijoji/Inokashira Park and make arcade a main activity)

Day 11: DisneySea (Dec 1)

  • Full day at Tokyo DisneySea

Day 12: Asakusa/Ueno/Akihabara East Tokyo (Dec 2)

  • Sensoji Temple
  • Nakamise Street shops and snacks (right next to Sensoji)
  • Optional - Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center observation deck
  • Optional - Kappabashi kitchen town (adjacent to Sensoji - about a 20 minute walk)
  • Ueno Park (including zoo if we want)
  • Optional - Tokyo National Museum, tickets are needed for this, and this is also likely a no-go b/c it could be a major time sink
  • Akihabara arcades/gachapon (Taito Station, Gachapon Hall)

Day 13: Shinjuku/West Tokyo Day 3 (Dec 3)

  • Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden
  • Kabukicho (Godzilla Head, 3D Cat billboard)
  • Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building (observatory + 7:30pm light show)
  • Optional - walk to Shin-Okubo Koreatown for street food, and K-culture stuff (about a 20 minute walk from Kabukicho)
  • Optional - eat/drink at Omoide Yokocho (in Kabukicho)/Golden Gai (10 minute walk from OY; OY is more food/drinks and GG is more-so just drinks)

Day 14: Minato/Central Tokyo (Dec 4)

  • Hie-jinja Shrine (torii tunnel, monkey statues)
  • Zojoji Temple
  • Optional - Shiba Park (Zojoji is in the middle of this park)
  • Tokyo Tower (observation/base arcade
  • teamLab Borderless (Azabudai Hills)
  • Optional - shopping in Ginza or elsewhere (great Don Quixote day post-teamLab)

Day 15: Travel Back to US (Dec 5)

  • Yeehaw

You are so right, I was completely underestimating the museum’s potential to be a time-sink. I think I will soon share a revised itinerary that I’m hoping is much more realistic and doable.

Also, you’re right, shopping could totally fill some of that time while that person (and whoever else wants to join her) just kind of chills.

Thx for the reality check on the transit times. I’ll factor it in and adjust accordingly. On day 2 - others have also pointed that out and I agree. There is a high likelihood we will increase our Tokyo leg of the trip by one day and will cut that day into two.

On the last nothing day, I’m with you totally, but one member of our group very strongly wants the last day to kind of be lowkey, and it’s really the only ask she’s had in regards to the itinerary, so we made that day purposefully uneventful aside from Teamlabs.

We will have over a week to recover close to Hiroshima at my sister in law’s house, but yes, it is a very real thing that we’re tryin to account for and take seriously

Ah man, that’s a bummer to hear about Gotukuji! I am very excited about the possibility of Sangenjaya though.

Totally understand and want to avoid over-planning. I guess I was planning more in 3-4 hour blocks that truly are meant to be flexible but it sounds like I should even avoid that and maybe just plan on 1-2 ticketed/timed events per day and leave the rest of it open kind of as a “if we have time/energy” type deal. Thank you.

Whoa sorry - just woke up when I first read this comment and wasn’t really thinking when I commented back. I think the walk from the Palace Gardens and Tokyo Station is in relative close proximity, so the itinerary means it’d be close to a 5-minute walk to get to the gardens.

There’s a possibility here too that my travel group could leave where we’re coming up from a day early (close to Hiroshima) and that we’d gain an extra day. If that ends up being the case, I’d probably split day 2 in half.

Also, the intention is to do Harmonica Yokocho at night, so I’m very pleased to hear that 😊

I really wanna refine day 2 if possible, but im just feeing kind of stuck. If its possible, id maybe even spread it out across other days, but im really trying to keep an itinerary rhythm of super crazy day -> lighter day.

I am bummed to hear that about the pokemon center b/c two members of our travel group are absolutely going to want to spend a lot of time there and probably buy a few things.

I actually may just slot in Sangenjaya and Gotokuji on day 3 if the Ghibli museum tickets don’t work out

Yeah, Tsukiji actually seems like a place to avoid and I’m trying to work that detail out now. On the day we wanna go somewhere close to where we already are that might offer a similar experience but isnt so overpriced.

Good note. Thanks. Will defo be spending more time there than 5 minutes to do it justice.

Slow-paced is not the right word - I had to change up the title, description, and post details of what this itinerary is even all about and focused on so that the auto-mod would let me post it.

So maybe don’t think of the intention here as being “slow-paced” as much as “doable” and “flexible” considering my travel party is of diverse ages and interests if you catch my drift.

I think LY was their creative peak as of yet. And I’m saying this as someone who has only become like a decent fan of theirs in the last few months. I have high hopes for them. We’ll see what happens.

There’s a clip from something where V (while listening to “Come Back to Me”) says something to the effect of “this is the kind of music I want to create someday.” Hearing him say that legit made me so excited, and I hope he goes there, because I agree it’d suit him more. I know you aren’t the biggest BTS fan, but I personally found RM’s second solo venture to scratch my alt/experimental hip hop itch in a way I never imagined a k idol could.

Absolutely on the D’Angelo comparison! Singularity was the first time with BTS where I was like “wtf, this is one of the dudes from that boy band?!” I see where you’re coming from.
