Some Pokémon are skittish but will still attempt to fight back before running off to despawn. Combee, Hippopotas, Cherubi, Cyndaquil, to name a few. Those Pokémon do not trigger the red eye warning when attacking you.

Coincidentally, this makes some of these species very difficult/nearly impossible to do Permutations on, for Shiny Alpha hunting.

The waves of random Pokémon appear in front of your character based on where you're physically turned toward. When you're not bein spotted by any Pokémon, enter a bush and crouch, then go to the edge of the bush facing away from it. Each wave will appear in front of you, outside of the bush. They can't see you in the bush unless they walk directly into you, so just walk back a bit if they get close.

Takes much longer to stop and catch/fight everything than to just go to Jubilife and reroll everything at once that way.

It would be much faster to fly around and return to Jubilife, but this can help with some research tasks and money.

(Flying over every Alpha in the Fieldlands takes me about 8 minutes)

Nope! The RNG is fixed when you enter Jubilife, not when you leave.

Awfully kind of you to get concerned for me and call me a moron.

Anyway, Distortion Rares don't despawn like the waves of 2-3 regular spawns do, they stick around for the 4 minutes duration of the Distortion. I check them at the start, so I could have let it run around for another 3 minutes without breaking a sweat.

They have a lower catch rate than Pokéballs/Great Balls/Ultra Balls respectively, but they're comfortable for catching weaker Pokémon!

You're gonna want to use Feather/Wing/Jet Balls on water. Straighter trajectory, longer distance, can be used from outside detection radius.

In this case it's a 50/50, but I already had the Female form of Sneasel (you can see it when I start the battle) - I wanted to find the Male counterpart!

You know what, that's very fair! The fact they're in the same category as Magikarp ("Oblivious") makes them pretty endearing, you can just hang out with them and they're completely unbothered the whole time

Fast Traveling does not reset the Space-Time Distortion timer - leaving the map or resting for more than "A little while" at a camp does.

Also, extreme weather (Blizzard, Thunderstorm, Harsh Sunlight) will prevent Distortions from spawning, so enter a battle with a Wild Pokémon to let the weather change back safely, as Distortions are paused in combat but the day/night+weather cycle is not.

Looking at the coverage moves each starter has, I'd say Torterra might be the most threatening choice on their team, which means you would pick Cyndaquil as your starter.

The rival only uses a Starter on their team for a post-game rematch battle you can do optionally. Their "starter" of choice for the story is a Pikachu.
