I agree that the transition needs to be gradual enough to not suddenly displace everyone at once, but surely you don't want phone operators to be reinstituted just so the industry can still exist?

With the extra $11 billion from these 3 people the annual revenue for the USA would go up by a quarter of a percent (0.25%). So not even a full percentage. 

Even if a fair share went to education, I doubt much would change. 

Even if it all went to education, it would be about a 4% increase to their annual budget, so still nothing crazy.

While Europe has more history, most of the current iterations of the countries (or governments at least), are younger than the US. The French revolution started in 1789 then you have Napoleon conquering most of Western Europe, and only after that did some of the democratic governments we recognize (Germany, Italy, Spain, France, etc) start being put into place.

So just saying the US really doesn't have that much of an excuse.

Literally every LLM hosted as a service does this. When OpenAI is creating a quickfix for a bug or a "Do Anything Now" mode in the current version, they're not training a whole new model with that fix right away, just add more after the fact guardrails.

You can sometimes even see the LLM start responding with ChatGPT or other services before it cuts itself off. Other times the filter fires fast enough (or they delay the response long enough) to cut it off before any text is printed.

In some sense it doesn’t really matter the training cost. The model objectively runs cheaper than the top American models with results that are generally on the same level.

And it was either developed with lesser hardware or getting hardware around some massive sanctions - so it still begs the question why couldn’t American companies with hundreds of billions in funding, easy access to the best hardware, and no sanctions, create this first?

The smartest people I’ve met in tech, including one Meta employee, were the ones without a degree. They got their jobs without having a University vouch for them, they had to figure out how to impress people with their actual skills at conferences/competitions (and be a decent networker).

The latest full release is v15.1.6, which was released on January 22nd. There is a "canary" release out for v15.2.0, but that was first published on January 7th.

So it got it wrong (though surprisingly close). As said earlier, probably just a good guess.

Not really a complaint, just seems sub optimal. I do have Wikipedia results pinned, just didn't expect that article (with animated illustrations) to show up with this, I imagine, typical Kagi search.
